The piercing was extremely crooked and not done through the sweet spot of the septum but rather the CARTILAGE OF THE BOTTOM TIP of my nose. he also did not have me sign any consent forms prior to my piercing Days later when I called explaining that the piercing was crooked and placed incorrectly they informed me that there was no way I could get any of the $165 that I paid in total for the service. read more

I went to Dermafilia a few days ago for a VCH piercing. They were COMPLETELY unprofessional. At the end of the piercing, the piercer asked me to "look cute" and pose for a photo of the piercing with my legs open, and face and body completely in frame. They did not have a private room to do this piercing, and another artist was sitting a few feet away, drawing up tattoos. The gauge they used was far too small, and the jewelry was too curved. They told me I was good to go without giving me any information on how to clean this piercing, so I asked, and the piercer recommended I use Dial soap. This is terrible for PH, and healing, and is not industry standard. They did not place any sort of cover over the table either on which I laid to get the piercing. They also forgot to give me my ID back. PLEASE do not go to this place. They are unprofessional and have very questionable hygiene practices. DO NOT GIVE THIS PLACE YOUR MONEY! THEY ARE PREDATORY, UNSAFE, AND FRAUDULENT SCAMMERS. This was my experience (which based on these reviews, many other customers can attest to): On 7/3/24, I came to Dermafilia for a tattoo and piercing. The piercing was done first by Wilson. Immediately following my piercing, an iPad was shoved in my face by Apple, the person doing my tattoo after. I paid $150 with a $20 tip. Immediately after I paid her, Wilson approached me saying I can pay him on Venmo. This is when I started to feel that things were off. Apple had just charged me for a tattoo without even showing me a sketch let alone doing the tattoo. I paid Wilson $120 plus a $20 tip for the piercing on Venmo, and then proceeded to wait for Apple to do the sketch. After she finished the sketch, I asked for a couple of tweaks for which she claimed each change would add an additional $50-$80 to my bill. If you look at other reviews, you'll see that Apple is known to upcharge for every possible reason. Another major red flag. She ends up finishing the updated sketch with little time left until closing so we decide that she will keep my $170 as a deposit and add details to the sketch to make it look more textured. I will return on 8/31 to get the tattoo. After this agreement, I followed up with Apple asking if she could send me a picture of the sketch before the date of my tattoo. She agrees. I follow up a few days before my appointment, and she claims she "couldn't find my number" and doesn't have a sketch and doesn't even remember what I wanted so I had to reclarify. I never end up receiving this sketch copy that was promised prior to my appointment date. On 8/31, I arrive for my appointment and there is no sketch. There is a haphazardly-put-together clipart-looking image pasted into a word document. It looked like something that was put together 5 minutes before I arrived. She of course didn't fail to mention however that some of the additional details she added would cost me an extra $200 on top of the $170 deposit they already have from me. I decide that I'm not a huge fan of the sketch and the constant price changes, so I request a refund. Apple tells me she can give me a refund minus $50 to account for artist time spent making the sketch. Despite me never receiving a sketch as promised before my appointment, I was happy to compensate the artist for their time. Apple goes to the back to call Wilson as he is the owner and needs to approve the refund. Wilson then gave Apple instructions over the phone in Spanish. Apple returns with $25 in cash and says she can Venmo me an additional $60 to equate to only an $85 refund. This is very confusing to me because I was originally told they would only be taking $50, not HALF of my $170 deposit. I have a lot of questions at this point, so Apple calls Wilson back to let us address our concerns. Wilson proceeds to yell at us through the phone that the artist's time is worth the $85, and that "it's only $35 more." I explain that I am happy to pay for the artists time, but I believe that the original $50 was sufficient for the half assed sketch I received. He begins to explain to me that we are only owed half of the deposit, even though this new "policy" was not once mentioned to me at any point. We end up leaving the shop extremely upset that they took so much of my money for nothing. As we are leaving, Apple FOLLOWS US OUT OF THE SHOP THREATENING US WITH PHYSICAL VIOLENCE. SHE THEN RECRUITS ANOTHER EMPLOYEE TO CONTINUE HARASSING US ALL THE WAY DOWN THE STREET THREATENING TO "BEAT OUR ASSES." I was close to calling the cops. This business is obviously falling apart at the seams. Wilson, who prior reviews have named a sexual predator, is completely and utterly unfit to run a business. He had no intention of working with us to reach a fair agreement. There are no real policies and structures in place that this business is based off of. If you look and sound like they can pull a fast one on you, they will. They must have desperately needed the money, considering This establishment stole half my deposit from me for a sketch by an apprentice that I could create on Microsoft Paint. They acted like their prices were set fairly and that "all tattoo shops charge this much" as if I don't have plenty of other significantly more intricate tattoos by more highly valued and talented artists for much more reasonable prices. I genuinely believe that the reason they were only able to give me $25 in cash instead of the original $120 or even the $85 is because they straight up don't have that much in the register lmao. I have reason to belive most of their revenue comes from scamming people by taking deposits, upcharging, refusing refunds, etc. I consider this my charity work for the month tbh they clearly need to scam people to make money and keep their business running. Most of their 5 star reviews seem paid for too - I would not trust them. read more

They are very diligent in making sure you are informed of what's going on throughout the piercing and letting you know what to expect after the piercing. Depending on what kind of piercing you get they will give you a variety of choices to choose from the top-notch quality jewelry. Walk-in tattoo! I did some research to get my first tattoo, and the majority of good places in SF have at least 2 months wait time. A friend suggested me to go to Dermafilia since she got a tattoo and loved her experienced. I walked in at 5:30 pm on Thursday, talked to Mary (asked all questions I had from pain, aftercare, how they handle their needles, etc). I told her I wanted to get my first tattoo on my ribs and she walked me through the process and let me know that it was probably be super painful given the location. Mary Kalcic and Wilson Posada are a dream team. Wilson is the owner and a straight up OG. I had one of the best experiences with a few dermal piercings I got. I was pretty nervous initially, as I had quite a few awful experiences with dermal piercings. It wasn't surprising when I later found out he's been piercing for 15 years. I also came in for a BIG cover/fix up on moon phases down my back. Mary Kalcic turned (what looked like) cookies disproportionately placed down my back, into beautiful moon phases. Mary is an art goddess. Besides the fact that she is unbelievably talented she actually listens, cares, and goes above and beyond to match the vision of her clients. Unfortunately, this isn't the case with most tattoo artists these days. I happened to stumble upon this hidden gem while walking around The Mission. Dermafilia is newly opened, and is sill in it's opening phase. Sad to write this review. I stop by with my dog because I wanted his paws tattoo , ask the lady , gave me a Quote and I say ok. I ASK Her to get my stencil since my dog was there, brought some ink, and she got a blurry image , after that she said she got it she could work with that. I came the day of my appointment and she had the most unrealistic cartoonish picture of some invented paws, I refused to get that tattoo and reminded her I wanted MY DOG's PAWS, and she told me I had to come back another day and try to get the stencil myself, and we will try again, at this point I just wanted to go to a different artist, but she refuse to give me my deposit back even though she did not give me what I wanted at all! If I wanted cartoon dog paws, why would I bring my dog? The owner offer to do it for me, and really to let this establishment tattoo me is a consolation prize when it should have been something special. at this point I rather loose my money, that I paid for nothing! .... Bad bad costumer service, bad bad artist that Mary girl , won even listen to customers request , really disappointed I wish I could have bring my Bussines somewhere else. This review is long overdue! About a month ago my friend decided she wanted a spontaneous tattoo, and as we were walking around we stumbled upon this tattoo place. It was going to be her first tattoo, and she was having immediate doubts about it. Wilson introduced himself and answered all the questions she had patiently (even though we came in pretty close to closing time). His awesome personality and professionalism made my friend feel so much calmer and more confident about getting her tattoo, which ended up exactly the way she wanted it by the way! Wilson is such a great guy, I highly recommend checking out his shop and getting a tattoo! I initially found his shop on Yelp one day when I was looking for a nearby place to get a small wrist tattoo. The shop is clean and inviting, and Wilson (the owner) was super friendly and got the tattoo done in about 15 minutes. I would definitely get more work done by him just because of his friendly demeanor. Mary is kick ass! She pierced my nostril awhile back and after having my nose pierced three times before (lol), this was easily the best, most professional and pleasant experience I've ever had. She has a very comfy, sweet presence which is so important for something as nerve-racking as a piercing. But what really influenced the 5 star review was that she actually suggested the position of my piercing for when I wanted to switch out to a hoop, WHICH HAS LITERALLY never been mentioned to me before by any other piercer. It makes total sense, because I remember when I first got my nose pierced back in the day and I changed it to a hoop, it was pretty awkward in sizing and position. She precisely positioned it while looking at a nose hoop ring to make sure it was perfect. Now, THAT'S being detail-oriented. The after care was well-explained and she told me what hoop size to get for when I change my ring, based off my preferences. And she's a girl! Gotta support our skin breaking women warriors. My fiancé and I were out and about in mission district last night and we decided that we wanted to get piercings, nose for her and septum for me. We stopped in a liquor store before heading to another piercing shop (grabbing a little liquid courage) when we ran into Wilson. We had a short conversation when he mentioned he had a piercing shop next door, it was fate! We finished our purchase and headed over to dermafilia. Wilson was so professional and made us feel very comfortable. My fiancé went first and he placed her nose ring perfectly! Not too high like a lot of places. I've had my septum before so he tapered it to reopen the piercing, quick and painless! Her gave us great jewelry my septum sits perfect it isn't too big or too long. To top it all off he was affordable he charged me $40 for the septum tapering including jewelry (he even gave me a second closed septum ring) and my fiances was $50 for her nose ring and jewelry. Butttttt here it is, and as long as she gets acknowledged for her work & it drives future customers her way, then that's all that matters to me. Anyways :) I got my nose pierced by Dee & she was amazing! Nose piercings don't hurt, but when I say I felt nothing, I'm serious. They normally feel like a little pinch, but she has such a light hand that I recommend everyone to go to her. It was a quick & educational experience. A nose piercing is small but she knew was she was doing & gave a lot of advice as far as the sizing in studs/hoops and after care at home. I've had my nose pierced before so I though I can rush in and get a hoop right away. That wasn't the case lol. Which was more than fine because Dee explained why and also showed me other jewelry she'd think I'd be interested in for now. And I was :) So, all in all I recommend going to Dee for any of your piercing needs. read more

I went in when they where open on 18th St mission loved everything about it they where mad nice loved it that I went back for a second piece..the owner Wilson charged me 400$ for the piece I didn't care because I wanted it so I went in for session 1 I wanted to go back and finish up and he kept telling me to come back and other time that the artist was on vacation this was in 2007/8 i can't really remember well is 2015 and my 400$ piece is still unfinished..I tryed reaching out to him and he said I would have to pay MORE money to have someone else finish it..so he basically stole my money. So unprofessional he does tattoos himself him as a owner should have offered his skills and finished it every time I look at my arm mind u this is a 400$ piece I payed for so is big I get so angry!!! If I could go back I would ask for a photo copy of what I signed that the tatoo was going to get done and of what I payed for. read more
