I have what I call "old lady rosacea". I'm in my 50s and been fighting skin issues since I hit menopause. A great deal of redness and breakouts were ever present. The skin on my face had become so painful that it would wake me! I had gotten opinions and prescriptions from my family doctor, Ear Nose and Throat Specialist, OB, and a cosmetologist/ esthetician. I would have minor improvement followed by major set backs. I had decided that it was something that I would just need to ride out. I had an eye issue and my eye doctor suggested I see a dermatologist and gave me the referral to Dermatology Consultants. I was reluctant because I felt like I had tried everything. I thought I would pay $100 for a cream that would not change anything. I am thrilled to say this was a great referral! I am 30 days into treatment and I am seeing great improvement! Dr. James Lagrew has been great and taken time to answer all of my questions and give me insight in to my treatment. I know my issue is a relatively simple one, but at the end of the day I had many other opinions and treatment and no one else had gotten me this far down the path. My 5th star is really for how friendly and efficient the staff is here. I am right in at my appointment time and right out with what I need. I feel like at most other Dr's offices I am there 15 minutes a head of time and I get to see a Dr an hour after my appointment time. This location keeps on a tight schedule. read more

I was very disappointed with my appointment. I came in with a widespread skin condition and hoped to discuss possible causes and treatment options. However, the focus of the visit was primarily on removing a few spots from my face, and my larger skin concerns were not addressed at all. When I attempted to ask questions, Dr. Grossman told there wasn't time to discuss them. While office staff was professional, I found the physician's bedside manner lacking. I did not feel that my concerns were listened to or taken seriously. I understand that physicians have busy schedules, but patients deserve to have their concerns acknowledged and their questions answered. Dr. Music and her team are so amazing! I have been going to this practice since 1986 seeing Joseph Bark. When he retired, it was a smooth transition and have continued to receive excellent care! I have had several/too many to count places removed and or, frozen. I have also had Mohs Surgery as well on my face and can hardly tell. read more

Avoid! Waste of time. Regret ever setting foot in the door. Provider was unable to offer practical solutions. Wanted to give textbook information but was unwilling to listen if it was not happening in the precise moment of the appointment. Medical professionals are supposed to be able to explain AND listen, not insult the patient for asking questions or stating a medication was taken in the past with a negative outcome. Patients shouldn't be accused of refusing advice when expressing concerns, which should not be ignored. Family members are nurses and doctors and they all say any patient should be able to ask questions freely and be met with respect. It does not seem this practice subscribes to that belief. read more

My opinion is this is the WORST Dr. office in Lexington. I am a male and my wife try's to get me to go with her to the Dermatologist yearly to have a complete body check. We spend a lot of time in the sun and she wants to make sure no issues. We got appointments about 15 minutes apart with the same person. My wife went in first and she was in the room about 20 minutes. She waited while I went in for my appointment. I was in the room about 8 minutes and the person that checked by body was only in the room with me for about 2.5 minutes. They asked me to remove my shirt and she very quickly looked at my chest, back and arms. Then the exam was over and she left the room. When I came out I asked my wife if they only do a very limited total body check, and she replied no she was ask to put on paper underwear and the person checked her entire body except where the underwear was. A COMPLETE BODY CHECK BY A DOCTOR and they don't look at the entire body?? In my case they did not even check my legs or feet. THEY HAVE AN ATTITUDE THAT THEY ARE GODS GIFT TO MAN KIND. ARROGANT AND TOO DAMN GOOD TO DO THEIR JOB. FIND ANOTHER DERMATOLOGIST TO GO TO. DO NOT GO TO DERMATOLOGY CONSULTANTS. I called to complain about 15 minutes after we left and the office manager invited me back to be seen by someone else. At that point I felt like a creep begging a doctor to actually look at my body for cancer from the Sun. Also figured if that is the type of doctors they hire then that crap comes from the top down and I did not want anything to do with them. read more

Developed a skin rash under my arm and went looking for a dermatologist. I am so glad I found Dr. James Lagrew! He immediately put me at ease with his great attentiveness and friendliness. He listened, examined the area, explained what it was and what treatment was needed. He was great! My rash cleared up without any problems. I just wish Dr. James Lagrew was a general practitioner so that I see him more often - lol! If you have skin issues he is the one to see! You won't be disappointed! read more

This place does not care about your health they are more concerned about how much money they can get from you. Booked an annual physical and the doctor looked at me literally two minutes. I asked to have a mole removed and they said they have to "evaluate" for the first appointment and then schedule an additional appointment to remove it. The appointment was $150 a complete waste of money and then they wanted to schedule another just to remove the mole. I will not be going back. I prefer a doctor who is interested in his patients health and doesn't skimp an exam because he's in a hurry. They also make you feel stupid and act like they could care less about anything except booking additional appointments so they can get more money. Had a great experience! Got an appointment the next day after I called. The office was very busy when I got there, but they saw me within 15 minutes of my scheduled time. Dr. LaGrew came in, evaluated my skin issue, conducted a quick 10 minute cosmetic procedure and I went back to work the next day with no side effects. Not sure what my insurance will pay, but the overall procedure was less than I anticipated so I'm very happy with that as well. If I need any follow up I won't hesitate to go back to Dr. LaGrew. read more

I had been to this derm before for treatment and everything went very well. The last time I went was absolutely terrible. I called prior to ask what charges would be for a very simple removal procedure. I was quoted a price. I went in for the the procedure and never was told that they would be adding multiple other charges on top of the quoted price. The communication was severely lacking. I ended up having to pay 5x what they originally quoted me. The whole thing seemed so shady. The worst part about it was that when I called to question the charges they talked down to me and made it seem like I was in the wrong. As a patient I don't think I deserved that and I don't think you do either. Check with other dermatologists before you go here. read more

This was the most frustrating visit I have ever had with any doctor. My finger was diagnosed with psoriasis I was told if the cream did not work, we would go to the next option. When she came in, she immediately said there is no other option and had to live with it. It was as if I was bothering her being there. I asked about an injection. She was belittling and condescending about my question and asked what would I like her to inject it with. I have googled possible treatment and it shows an injection with steroids may work. How does she not know this? She did ask me if I wanted a second opinion in the practice. Why would I spend money on another doctor when this PA should consult with the doctor? I spent 45.00 and not to mention what she will be charging the insurance for an appointment that told me nothing. This is definitely insurance fraud. It was so unethical. I am not sure how the practice allows this. It is truly astonishing. The whole appointment was patronizing. read more

Great doctors on both the consultant and skin secrets side (and their Richmond office). Horrible experience with office staff on the consultant side. I was unable to complete Accutane steps due to an office error and had to call iPledge and have them call the office with me on the line so they could explain the error was on the office's end, so that I could continue the steps required of me. She was still argumentative with the iPledge worker and no apology was offered. This was especially problematic due to time sensitive nature of Accutane. Later, the same staffer said I could no longer be seen due to missed appointments (without providing dates) and that I had already been informed of this issue (again no date of occurrence). He listened attentively and we came up with a great treatment plan together that would work for my skin. I have highly recommend him to all my family and friends. I live in Ca but travel to Ky quite often. I stumbled upon this dermatology group due to a bad flare up I had while in Lexington. I wanted to be seen right away so I agreed to see the physician assistant, Samantha Stratton. She was amazing, taking the time to review all my history as well as options my dermatologist in Ca never discussed with me. The treatment plan we agreed on has literally changed my life! I now plan my appointments around my trips to Ky and dropped my Ca dermatologist. I had been without medical insurance just for one month so I had to go in as a cash patient, I was surprised that the cost was very reasonable and they gave me a "sample" medication so I wouldn't have to absorb the high cost of the treatment. read more

I've been going here for years and will continue to go. The doctors are friendly and they do a great job. I recently had some moles removed and they did much better than a previous place I went. I would highly recommend them. read more
