The PA who examined me spent at MOST fifteen seconds looking at my skin and started to walk out of the examining room. I had to stop him from leaving THREE times to look at problem areas he missed. Two were generally benign. The third was a red lump about the size of a pea in the middle of my forehead - very hard to miss! Turns out it was a basal cell carcinoma. So, I returned to get it removed and asked if I was going to have a dent in my head from the procedure. Dr. Smith was dismissive about the chances at best. There was no discussion of first trying less invasive techniques that I learned about much too late afterwards. I got the same PA to stitch me up and again I asked about winding up w/ a dent in my forehead and again the response was very dismissive. Meanwhile I had to listen to his political views throughout the stitching, which I thought was very inappropriate. Next, after the stitches were removed, I had to return to the clinic to have two stitches removed that they missed the first time. And, AGAIN I had to listen to the PA's political views. I asked about topical creams for removing actinic keratoses and the PA recommended imiquimod. He said I should get it at the front counter where they sell it for about $75. Now a lot of people would just shell out the money w/ no questions asked. But, I asked a few questions and found out that by using my insurance, I could get it from Walgreens for $7. I think DermaHealth's approach was a shady way to sell their own products. Lastly, I now have a dent about the size of a quarter in the middle of my forehead that I will have the rest of my life. I understand that it beats dying from basal cell carcinoma. But the chances of that happening are miniscule and there are less invasive ways to try first.

After my appointment with Jessica--who has always been fantastic--I opened the door of the exam room and the owner was standing there blocking my way, she said flatly and rudely "thanks for leaving us a 3 star review" I was taken back because it was not only rude and unprofessional but I didn't expect to be ambushed while at the dr's. Jessica rushed from the room, and the owner closed the door behind her as she walked in blocking me from leaving the room and began criticizing me for leaving it. Throughout the conversation (wasn't much of a conversation as she wouldn't allow me to speak and she blocked me from leaving the room)I felt I was not given an opportunity to explain my perspective, as she repeatedly spoke over me whenever I tried to respond. She explained how much she and her staff do for their patients, including caring for cancer patients, and said that I didn't know everything they do throughout the day. I appreciate and respect the work healthcare providers do, and I have no doubt they help many people. However, none of that changes my personal experience as a patient. My original review acknowledged that I received good care while also pointing out a recurring issue with wait times. In my five visits, I was seen approximately 15-30 minutes after my scheduled appointment every time. I understand that delays happen and that doctors sometimes need to spend extra time with patients. My point was simply that patients' time is valuable as well, and consistent delays are worth mentioning in an honest review. When I told the owner that, because of our interaction, I would not be returning to the practice, her response was simply, "Good." Jessica continues to be an excellent provider. She is knowledgeable, personable, and has always treated me with kindness and professionalism. Unfortunately, my interaction with the owner overshadowed those positive experiences. I believe patients should be able to leave respectful, honest feedback--both positive and constructive--without feeling confronted or made to feel guilty for sharing their experience. For reference, here is my original review: "I've received great care from the staff when I've been seen. I understand that patients can run late and that providers need to spend the necessary time with each patient to provide quality care. The doctor said "yes". A couple weeks later i get a bill for $618. I wouldn't have had it removed, as it was no big deal if I would have been told the truth about the insurance not covering it. Last month I sent in $300, then this month I sent the balance of $318. Today, I get mail stating if they don't have payment in full, they will take me to collections. Guess what? You screwed up twice now, and will not get my business next time I'm in need of a dermatologist. Treat your customers with respect, you keep them as customers.
