Absolutely-lovely mattress store. Didn't feel particularly pressured, but I felt like a valued…read morecustomer - like they actually wanted me to be satisfied with any product that I purchased from them. While I (hopefully!), don't need another mattress anytime soon, this would be the place I'd return to. PROS: -Shopkeepers don't work on commission, and that becomes insanely obvious when you step into the store. Whereas we had someone on our tail constantly and trying to upsell us and offer better deals ("well, I can take $200 off that price right now!") when we went to another mattress store, we got lovely peace and quiet here. The sales associate welcomed us and pointed us in the right direction when we came in. Then he went back to his post and allowed us to look around with supervision. He occasionally came and checked in and asked if we were finding everything okay, but we had the ability to lay on and test the mattresses in peace without feeling rushed. -Associate was also pretty knowledgeable. He didn't seem to have too many specific details about things, but he was very familiar with the mattresses and how they compared. He also had very detailed information about all of their programs/buying process. -Nobody tried to sell us anything we didn't need. They were happy to explain the differences between the more-expensive and less-expensive options, but it never felt like we were being shoved towards the more-expensive one. He seemed to want us to be satisfied with our purchase - whatever it was. -They offer a 1-year happiness guarantee. If you find that it's not a good fit for you within one year, they'll take it back (minus a $50 surcharge fee) and give you full credit for the mattress. That's LEAGUES above other programs in town (which was 30 days and 100 days at other stores). -They have some coil-designed mattresses, some hybrid designs, and some pure memory foam designs. Mattresses range from $300-ish to $3,000-ish. There's a simple pricing structure laid out on every mattress with the breakdown of prices - how much for each size option of that type with various foundations or other options. No guessing or feeling uncomfortable continually asking a sales associate. Nothing seems marked up or unreasonably priced. -They also sell sleep accessories like sheets, memory foam pillows, and mattress protectors. -Mattress was delivered next-day with absolutely no problem for free in Ames. Evening of purchase, we received a call giving us a 3-hour window for the next day. Mattress was delivered in that window during the next day. CONS: -Relatively limited selection of brands (mostly Restonic), and they don't have the ability to special order any other brands.

We were looking and pricing beds for our children, and Phil Sears was a wonderful help in choosing a mattress set. Dude gets up and jumps on the frame to show its durability!!!! Their prices are great and quality isn't sacrificed for a low price. I believe we'll stick with them for our sleep needs. Best part? Free delivery with every purchase and they still have good prices.

We are beyond disappointed by our overall experience with Midwest Mattress…read more I will start with the only positive aspect of this entire situation. Lauren at the Altoona, Iowa location was kind and generally informative as she showed us various Helix mattress models. Unfortunately the precipitating factor to this whole ordeal began as we finalized the purchase of a king size Helix Midnight Core mattress and a king size Bedgear Mattress Protector. My husband and I understood Midwest Mattress' policy to be that all mattress "returns" are contingent on the purchase of one of their name brand mattress protectors, as this was the information verbally provided to us during our visit. We opted for the nicest Bedgear mattress protector which came to nearly $400, because per Lauren, we would not be eligible to "return" our mattress without said mattress protector. We at no time were informed of Midwest Mattress' unforgiving "exchange policy" or we would NEVER have made the purchase. We pretty strictly avoid purchases over $500 that prohibit returns. We spent close to $2000 on this purchase. Our mattress was delivered within two days and we excitedly brought it upstairs, removed it from the box, and allowed it to expand. We thought we had finally resolved an ongoing mattress issue until we went to sleep and I experienced some of the most excruciating neck and lower back pain. I attempted to push through the pain in observance of the standard "30 to 120 day break-in period," and eventually moved to our sofa after I realized that I was at risk of severely injuring myself. I immediately cancelled our previous mattress return with Saatva and set out to initiate a return for the Helix Mattress via Midwest Mattress' customer service line. I was shocked to learn that the request would need to be sent to higher management who would then "provide us with our options." I was clear that we wanted to return the mattress and be refunded. I was also clear that any amount of physical damage to our bodies during a break-in period is unacceptable. I feel gaslighted by the suggestion to push through excruciating physical pain to achieve the comfort we experienced while very briefly testing a showroom floor model. I am also frustrated by the suggestion that we were somehow expected to notice the contradicting return policy AFTER making the purchase. We are now stuck with nearly $2000 of product that is useless to us. The company has stated that our only option is to apply the nearly $2000 toward another one of their mattresses or foundations. From a business perspective, it makes zero sense to refuse this return while insisting that we return to the store to select another $2000 in merchandise, as this leaves them negative $4000. Moreover, all attempts to explain our situation have been met with the implication that we are lying about how the "return policy" was presented to us. We attempted to go local and got burned. Mike from higher management was condescending, rude, and disturbingly apathetic. We would never recommend this business to anyone who isn't 100% sure of their purchase or willing to exchange their purchase with another item from Midwest Mattress' fairly limited inventory.

I knew exactly what I wanted. There was a young lady standing by the recliners. I walked over sat in about 3 of them to try them out, she didn't even acknowledge I was there. She was about 10-15 feet away. I finally walked over and showed her the recliner I wanted, said I would like to have it in black (leather). She said it would take about 6-8 weeks to get there and required a 25% non refundable payment. I said ok since I am not in a hurry to get it. Then she told me there would be a $100 up charge to get it in black. This chair was over $1000! And they want another $100 because they don't carry that particular one. That's when I said I don't need it that bad. I left the store, disappointed because I found the chair I wanted but damn, $100 upcharge to get it in black. I drove straight to Slumberland found the chair I wanted for $200 less, NO UPCHARGE to get it in black leather. Still 6-8 weeks to get. After the fiasco we had a few years with a dining set, bedroom set and living room set all fell apart within 6 months of buying it. I'm not sure I will ever go back.
