I am triying to keep this short and to the point, as I have spent enough of my time recovering from Dr. Robbins. In August, I paid him to preform an abdominoplasty. Which lead to multiple visits. This included stitches, cauterization and two more times under his knife and 6 courses of antibiotics. Treatment during surgery was as barbaric as it could have gotten. I could FEEL him cutting my insides. Had to actually yell at him to stop touching me and numb me. His response "I don't know why this is hurting" this was also a response while getting stiches while I was crying. While under his care I recived Pseudomonas Aeruginosa and Ecoli. Resulting in an open wound. Overall I felt unseen, unheard and frankly abused. read more

I could call in and get an appointment with him same-day because they truly care about their patients. I chose him based on his experience and knowledge and I am thrilled with my decision. This company is extremely deceptive and told my wife and myself something different every time we went in there and changed the combination of drugs they provided us with zero notice or permission. We did use their service for a limited time we decided to stop as soon as they raised their prices by 20% after we had already had an appointment. Only after discontinuing our services received from them did I realize they had changed our drug combination. Later they were completely contradictory to their original statement about the administration of the drugs and their effectiveness overtime. I can't state strongly enough to find a different source for any services you are considering through this business. FYI they are also 25-50% higher than most other medical spas read more

First of all, they do not like constructive criticism or bad reviews and they will make sure to try to make you look bad if they don't get Such. this man needs a lesson in bedside manners and how to speak to a lady. He also needs to put it on his website that he will not touch you if you ever had a surgery even if it was 20 years ago went here, wasted money, wasted time he tried to belittle me like he was above me, but I think that he forgot the poor people are the ones that made him rich. Lastly, I had the surgery done by another surgeon and it turned out perfect so maybe he just wasn't cut out for the job after all. I would've rated a zero if that was an option. read more

I had my 6 months follow up appointment for my neograft surgery. I expressed with Dr. Robbins that I wasn't happy with the results. I described how my hairline wasn't the right shape. It's asymmetrical and too far back. It doesn't look like I had a neograft done at all. My hairline is still receded. I also shared how it wasn't fair on me to have the hairline drawn after I was already drugged the day of the surgery. I told the neografters (while drugged) it wasn't right and they didn't listen to what I asked for. If I had been sober, I would have walked out and not done the surgery at all. I went into the 6 month appointment wanting to find a solution to making me feel okay with the results or coming up with a plan on how to fix it; but Robbins wouldn't listen to what I was saying. He was combative and defensive with gaslighting behavior, going back on what we discussed during our initial consultation. I don't feel comfortable going under the knife with Dr Robbins and his team again. I feel that it would be a nightmarish experience all over again. I have gotten opinions from other professionals who work in the plastic surgery industry. They agree with me that the grafts have grown in nicely, but it was not the results I desired / has discussed with Robbins; suggesting that the hairline isn't right and another 500+ grafts should have been placed. I am going to describe how this mess can be prevented with future clients: 1) draw the hairline during the first consultation 2) be honest with the recovery time / pain / nerve damage 3) don't drug the patient before the hairline is drawn the day of surgery 4) If Robbins is taking credit for the surgery: he needs to at least see the patient get the hairline drawn and help the neografters get started 5) my consultation should have been with the neografters; seeing that they were the ones who did all the work, and Robbins wasn't even there 6) Robbins lied to me saying that they would give me 1500 grafts with the agreement that if I needed more to create the correct shape, that they would take more - he later claimed that he never said this. Where would I have gotten this idea if he didn't propose it? 7) treat your patients with respect and dignity if they come post surgery with concerns The goal of any plastic surgeon should be to help their clients achieve desired results, but to also be realistic, honest, transparent.. Robbins has come across as money hungry. Willing to say anything to take my cash and run away as soon as I return saying it's not what I wanted. I am asking for my money back to compensate for not giving me the discussed results, lying to me in the first consultation, and treating me with massive amounts of disrespect in the 6 month appointment. I have a fear of undergoing the knife again after being Robbins's client. If I do get corrective surgery to fix the damage, it will be with a different surgeon and team. read more

I came in to get two scars removed. The doctor was pushing the needle through my skin above my eye and I told him that it hurt, he continued on saying it was a deep stitch and it would not hurt on the next one ( it was extremely painful). He went to do the next stitch and it hurt even more!! It was only at that time that he listened to me and believed me and shot me with more pain killer. He treated me as if I was unimportant and I did not feel good about the whole procedure. This is a place that I would expect should lift you up not make you feel down and question the procedure you are getting done. He had the bedside manner to say "too bad it isn't Halloween out" when he got done, have had a pit in my stomach ever since I left the office. Yuck. read more

I had my consult for breast Augmentation today at 12:50. I had all the paperwork filled out in advance. When I called the clinic to schedule the consult, I informed Jessica (the girl who answered the phone) that I am transgender. She said ok. I also listed that I am transgender on the paperwork. When I got to my appointment at 12:45 I had to go find someone to check me in because there was nobody there in the suite I was told to go to. I was checked in but the receptionist didn't even show up until 1:00, so my husband and I sat there wondering if someone was even coming. That's the first strike. Second, the office itself is very uninviting and sterile feeling. We were lead back to a room where a nurse talked with me about what I wanted. She explained that I needed a mammogram done since I have never had one. I asked if I still needed one since I am transgender. She said she didn't know. I asked if the doctor has ever operated on a male-to-female transgender person before. She said she didn't know. Strike two. Next, Dr. Robbins came in. His demeanor was very cold and lacked compassion. He said he wouldn't do my surgery because I am not a female. That statement alone makes him unfit to be a doctor. He is supposed to be a doctor, yet his lack of intelligence regarding transgender issues clearly shows how far behind the times he is. He told me that the implants were FDA approved for only females. So, this clearly was a matter of belief versus legalities, as I have since learned that the same implants are used by other doctors who will do the surgery on me. He is clearly against transgender people, and that's fine. But I am also against doctors who masquerade as being compassionate yet are anything but that. Hence, this review. If I could rate him zero stars I would. Strike three, four, and five. He had no advice for alternatives, nor did he appear the slightest bit interested in helping out at all. I asked why my time was wasted when the receptionist that initially took my call could have prevented all of this. All he could do was give an empty, compassionless answer of "I don't know". Strike...idk...a lot. Doesn't matter at this point. My intent is to share my experience with as many people as possible. Oh, I did get a call from Denise trying to do damage control. She said the doctor talked to her after we left, no doubt to let her know I was pissed. She sent me some useless resources on transgender related stuff. Basically, a CYA effort that in the end proves that the image of the doctor is far more important than the dignity of the patient. All this being said, if you're transgender, don't bother with this quack. And if you're not, still don't bother. His treatment of me should serve as a warning to all women. There are enough non-misogynistic doctors out there that you shouldn't bother with this one. There are other, better options, in Des Moines. read more

At my consultation Dr. Robins said right away he wouldn't do surgery because of a previous surgery I had. He knew I had traveled hours to get to his office, so I felt like he was defensive from the start and basically trying to place the blame on me (for driving that far), even though I hardly said anything. Looking back I can see that I probably should have explained more and/ or used different medical terminology when completing my medial history online. However if he had a question about a previous surgery, he could have also called me to discuss ahead of time (knowing I would be traveling there) or make it known on his website that he doesn't do anything he considers a revision. I feel it was a misunderstanding on both sides, but there was no need for him to be rude. He did offer to give me the name of another surgeon, but when I declined (due to I had wanted the surgery before the end of the year) he proceeds to tell me he's booked out 3-4 months anyway. Furthermore making it 'my fault' it didn't work out. When I had called a month prior to book my appt, that was one of my first questions to his receptionist and was informed I could be scheduled for surgery within a month or two, no problem. I read a lot of reviews before contacting a business, so hopefully this helps somebody else before they make a long drive for no reason! read more

I now how stripes down my back that they want me to pay for an extra session to get removed when it's hair that should've been taken care of the first time. PLEASE READ IF YOU'RE LOOKING INTO GETTING A PROCEDURE DONE WITH DR. ROBBINS. This is long, but worth the time. I've been hesitant to write a review, since I usually never do for anything, but after having to have two additional surgeries to fix Dr. Robbins mistakes I felt compelled to warn people about how terrible my experience was at Des Moines Plastic Surgery. I went in two years ago to strictly get a breastlift. Immediately after the surgery I could tell my nipples were alarmingly high. I followed everything they told me to do for post op care, including buying the $80 scar cream (which save your money, it did not help). I believe it was my two week post operation appointment when I voiced my concerns to Dr. Robbins about my aerolas/nipples being too high and he said that's typical and that they'd eventually drop. My two month post operation came and I could finally conclude that not only were my aerolas/nipples going to stay alarmingly high, but that I also received somewhat of a breast reduction. I went from a full 34D to a small 34B/34C. My mother and I asked how this could happen. Robbins' comment was along the lines of "the chances are extremely rare but these things can happen," so he avoided any responsibility for the placement of the nipples. But then proceeded to offer to fix them at a discounted price, meaning he knew there were mistakes made, but didn't outwardly say so. I refused to get this problem corrected by him. Instead I went to a well-respected breast surgeon in the Michigan area, Dr. Dennis Hammond. While in my consultation with Dr. Hammond he validated my thoughts that things don't "just happen" but that my previous surgeon did indeed misplace my nipples during my breastlift. Fortunately he was willing to correct Robbins' mistake as much as possible, but unfortunately it was not an easy task and can't fully be corrected. Although Dr. Hammond improved my breasts, thanks to Dr. Robbins I am no longer able to wear a normal bra or swimsuit without my nipples/aerolas peeking out. Not only because of the extremely devastating results, the additional money that had to be spent to fix my breasts, but also how Dr. Robbins responded after his mistakes I would STRONGLY encourage everybody and anybody to look elsewhere. read more

I'm new to Des Moines had to find a new place to get botox. Normally when I get Botox it lasts for 6 months. I found this place online got botox done on my frown lines, it lasted only 2 months and never completely smoothed out the lines. Either they dilute the Botox so much with saline that it doesn't last or they don't inject deep enough for the muscle to completely relax. What a waste of money. They do this to make you come back sooner. Won't be going there again. Save your money and go somewhere else!!! read more

I went to Dr. Robbins to have an eyelid lift and a mole removed from my eyelid that was blocking my vision. He informed me he would naturally have to do both eyes and an eyebrow lift to keep everything in balance. My eyes are now two different sizes and one eyebrow is lower than the other eyebrow. Very disappointed in the service from my appointment not starting on time to the complacent attitude shown by the staff. I also have to agree with the Botox reviews given by others about DM Plastic Surgery. While they do ask at every appointment if you are satisfied with the unit # used, it always seems like their Botox only lasts up to 2 months. You don't get a lot of bang for your buck on that procedure from DM Plastic Surgery. However, if you try mentioning that to them, they give you their rehearsed speech about how educated and how experienced they are with Botox injections but offer no helpful suggestions on achieving your goal for an effective treatment. read more

I'm from KY and since I didn't know of any good rhino plastic surgeons there I traveled to IA for Dr. Robbins. I couldn't have been more pleased with my results! The nurses were great as well and the office was very nice. It's been about 2 months and my nose has healed perfectly and looks better than ever. Everyone from the receptionist to Dr. Robbins is so friendly, and have exceeded my expectations! I am always greeted, the nurses attend to my needs quickly, and Dr. Robbins will answer all of my questions in a professional manner. The aestheticians at the Healthy Skin and Laser Center are also wonderful - very knowledgeable on all the products and procedures they offer.
