I'll call it a hidden gem because you can definitely miss it if you're not paying attention but once you find it I don't think you can ever forget the Guardian name and team. Matt and Jamie are running something truly special for firearms enthusiasts of all levels. Every shelf and case is full of anything you can imagine from entry level to Call of Duty level prestige. Jamie and two of her team members (I feel terrible I didn't get their names) spent time listening to what I was looking for and then gave me their insight and helped me narrow down my choices. Jamie even showed me one of my options from her personal collection and explained that they offer demo rentals on their range. In the end I purchased something I couldn't find anywhere else on the island. Matt (Jamie's husband) came over and introduced himself and thanked me for coming in. He explained some of the amenities and offerings at Guardian should I want to take advantage of those. I will absolutely be back to dive further into those. Spark notes: Even as a first time visitor, the team at Guardian treated me as a lifelong customer and friend. When I first walked in nobody knew whether I was a window shopper or serious buyer. Eventually after standing at the counter for an extended amount of time, a fat guy in the corner finished eating and asked us what we wanted. I told him I needed Mauser ammo, He said "What ammo?" I said "Mauser", he replied that he doesn't know what I'm saying, I'm a little perplexed at this point as I am a native English speaker though I do have a foreign accent, I explain "German Mauser, K98 etc..." He said to me in the most obnoxious way possible "In America we pronounce it Mauser" (The "You say tomato, I say tomato" thing). I was stunned, as was my friend (from the same country of birth as me). We left and as we discussed it both became more and more angry at that xenophobic, surly, a-hole and his disgusting attitude. Since then I have served in the US Army for over 10 years, and have purchased many firearms and ammo in Long Island gun stores. I have NEVER set foot in Benson's since that day!

I believe this location is a person by person experience. My experience went well, I even got a review on my own personal firearm. I came in and without saying a word and fast speaking kind gentleman assisted me with my first purchase. Considering I was tired and hardly focused, he had patience with me and my father. He reviewed my safety rules with and explained the new policies that will be coming up soon. He helped me pick up all accessories and put me on to things I thought I didnt need. If youve never been at a city bodega (if not, grow up) , the way these guys move is very similar . They are masters and very fast-paced. Its a very New York styled runned business. So if you ask, you have to follow with whats being told to you. ( FOCUS. ) Id refer anyone to this location. Just have patience and advise them of your knowledge . You are in a store with Firearms, so yes you can have a good time but understand this is a very serious place of business .
