I believe this location is a person by person experience. My experience went well, I even got a review on my own personal firearm. I came in and without saying a word and fast speaking kind gentleman assisted me with my first purchase. Considering I was tired and hardly focused, he had patience with me and my father. He reviewed my safety rules with and explained the new policies that will be coming up soon. He helped me pick up all accessories and put me on to things I thought I didnt need. If youve never been at a city bodega (if not, grow up) , the way these guys move is very similar . They are masters and very fast-paced. Its a very New York styled runned business. So if you ask, you have to follow with whats being told to you. ( FOCUS. ) Id refer anyone to this location. Just have patience and advise them of your knowledge . Went in here one time to purchase an off duty handgun and i have never been back. Not a singular worker in there could be bothered. I asked to look at two guns, the worker who was helping me dropped the guns and walked away without a word said. This happened years ago, review was on Google figured I'd repost here. If your life depends on your weapon do not purchase your gun from here. I purchased a brand new Glock 19 Gen 5 with Night sights from here over a year ago. Ever since I bought this gun I have shot low with it, I have always assumed it was me as a shooter causing this. Over time I came to doubt this, I carry my issued Glock 17 and shoot almost perfect scores everytime then I switch to my personal owned daily carry Glock 19 and I shoot 20 points lower, my grouping drops at least 10 inches everytime from my Glock 17. My agency's firearms instructors(who all go to Glock armorer school) finally took a look and said something isn't right with the way this is shooting, he took a look and noticed the rear sight is stamped with "6.1 mm" on it which he said he had never seen before and the side of the side did not have the notch cut into it that the other 19's had. This was our clue that something was not right so we took out the Glock armorers manual and looked up with sight was supposed to be on my gun, long story short Glock universally employs 6.5 mm rear sights, they make one gun that uses a 6.1 mm sight which is a Glock 17L (long slide) which is a very uncommon gun and the only one that uses that articular sight so that's why they stamp it with 6.1 mm on it, to dummy proof it and prevent this exact situation from happening. My firearm instructor also told me he believed based on wear and tare on the rear sight and dimming of the glow in the night sight that this sight was several years old and would be much older than a new gun purchased a year ago. So I was told take it back to the dealer and if he tries to say this is how it was shipped to him just stop and report everything to Glock and let them deal with him as he is dirtying their name and they would not tolerate it. So I take a very angry drive to this store and decide not go in screaming as I was very upset being that I carry this gun everyday on the job and my life has been unnecessarily put at risk due to this situation for over a year, thankfully I never got into a shootout on the job with this weapon. I go in as calmly as I can and approach the owner and state that before we start fair warning my patience are extremely thin but I'm going to try and stay civil. He is immediately defensive and when I tell him that he sold me a gun with the wrong sights on it he immediately claims that Glock sent it that way. I state that we're done here and I'm calling Glock to tell them what he is doing. At this point his story changes from the gun being shipped to him that way to Glock must have sent him the wrong sight in his bag of new sights which he pulls out. He says I would have pulled it out of here so it must be Glocks fault. He says he doesn't know why the sight says 6.1 mm on it the other ones he has don't, even after I show him the page from the armorers manual and explain the "dummy proofing" he still maintains he can't verify any other sight would be correct then. I finally get him to remove my sight from my gun and compare to a new proper sized sight, he shrugs and say "ehh maybe there's a . something mm difference in the sight". Reality being there is a .4 mm difference in the sight, and a gun store owner should certainly understand that the wrong sight can greatly affect your shooting, and to say that to someone who may be using that firearm to protect my own life or anyone's life is astounding. So to try and suggest that it is unreasonable to be upset with him over the wrong sight being placed on it is dumbfounding. The way I see it the most likely chain of events was not that he maliciously gave me a wrong sight intentionally putting my life in jeopardy, I believe he was looking to save $80 on the new night he was supposed to give me and instead replaced it with an old sight he had laying around and even though he is a Glock authorized dealer he is too incompetent to know that the sight he put on was wrong. read more

After I retired 2 years ago I decided to take up the sport of riflery again. I say again because, coming from Virginia, I grew up with firearms, even had and had shot as a teenager an 8mm Mauser my great uncle had brought back from the WWI battlefields of France, but had not had the time or inclination to do anything with firearms while I was working. I landed at Hunter Sports a little over a year ago after trying and rejecting several other firearms dealers on LI and have stayed with them ever since. Their staff is professional, knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Their prices are as fair as any can be in NY and their inventory is impressive. I suspect Mark and Mike know everything there is to know about firearms and the laws governing their use in NY. Joe, retired from the NYPD is also quite knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Jason, also retired from the NYPD, has been particularly helpful to me by patiently answering all of my questions and doing his best to help whenever I've had a problem with a rifle purchased there or acquired elsewhere (such as my 8mm Mauser). He has gone out of his way on a number of occasions to make sure I ended up with the best equipment for my interests and has occasionally steered me away from something I was thinking about purchasing because he correctly surmised I wouldn't be happy with it in the long run. Although I'm not a retired cop or even a hunter I've always felt welcome at Hunter and know, no matter how difficult my problem or how basic my question, I will get the help I need when I go there. read more

I'm a novice shooter and I have always felt out of place walking into a gun store. I don't know the proper terminology for somethings. I have gaps in knowledge most shooters think is common sense. I went hunting once and decided I want to get into it, but first I need my own rifle and to learn how to shoot reliable. So I came to this place with after a few recommendations the idea I'll buy the cheapest hunting rifle I could and practice with it and go from there. The clerk, Adam, assisting helped immensely with the selection and buying process. I'm not sure if he is the owner of just an employee. I didn't feel out of place being such a rookie, he embraced the idea of getting into the sport and took his time to walk me through making a purchase. I was really happy about this and though I spent a little more money than I had anticipated, I walked out very content with my purchase. I was enrolled in a class at Hunter Sports in February 2023. The class was well planned out and incredibly informative. The instructor, Jimmy, was a plethora of knowledge and information. I was so glad he was our instructor. He took the time to answer all of our questions, provide real life scenarios and make sure everyone understood the topics before moving on to next topic. It was a lot of information being taught. All the information was presented clearly and kept us all engaged. I read reviews, chose not to listen to the negative ones and go in and see for myself. So first thing I'll mention is they were very nice to my wife. They joked with her, spoke to her with respect and treated her as an equal to me. I dealt with John , white dude with a shaved head and Jay the Spanish guy. I walked in , was greeted right away , told where to wait, I waited patiently to be helped, they were busy and tending to customers. After about 10 mins I was approached by Jay and John. I told them what I wanted they showed it to me and a few other options and answered every question my wife and I had for them. They were nice , friendly , talkative and just fkn chill. My backround got delayed, so I was told I can come back when it clears or I can buy the gun now and put it on hold til my backround cleared. I was told if it didn't clear I'd be refunded in full. Usually I wouldn't do this , but I decided to pay in full , I knew my backrounds would clear anyway , but I trusted them and took a chance. I came back in on my lunch break on Tuesday. Jay was there and I told him I was on lunch and short on time can we get this done fast. Jay literally got going hustled and got me in and out in on my break. I Also picked up some accessories and ammo. Jay made sure to let me know my firearm had a lifetime warranty , which he didn't have to mention but he did. Informed me on warranties and returns and how it goes. Don't listen to negative reviews, dnt be a weirdo when u go there and don't be a dick and you won't have any issues, in my opinion , walk in with good vibes. STAY AWAY, THIEVES! I had 2000 rounds of 5.56 Shipped to them from LuckyGunner.com. Lucky gunner fed-ex the ammo to them. I received delivery confirmation from FedEx with the employee D.Adams who signed for it. When I went to pick Ammo from Hunter sports, they "claimed" they never received delivery. I showed them the FedEx delivery confirmation that they received it and that a D.Adams signed for it. They confirm there is a David Adams that works there but they never received delivery?!? I have the confirmation you idiot!! Luckygunner and FedEx launched an investigation and will no longer be using them as an FLL. I was notified by FedEx this is not the first time this "dealer" has pulled this nonsense. Just walk into the store, and see what a PIGSTY this place is! Shows what type of people run that circus...the guys that work at HUNTER SPORTS are a joke! I will be sure to make my experience know on every social media platform available. read more

My wife recently took up sporting clays and I wanted to get her a nice O/U 12ga to go with her semi auto Beretta 391 20ga. After looking around at a bunch of shops in Northern & Central Virginia I turned to the web. That's when I stumbled across Hunters Sport in Massapequa, NY. Mark at Hunters Sport hooked me up with a slightly used Beretta 687 Silver Pigeon III for a price I had to jump at. When I say I had to jump at it I mean it... I never stepped foot into the store. We traded emails and calls only. Mark's pictures and description of the gun were 100% accurate. He was over critical about the only small blemish on the gun so I wouldn't be shocked. The small "blemish" on the trigger guard he mentioned was almost nothing. I've seen the same blemish on multiple other 687's so it has to be a Beretta design issue and not this shotguns. From start to finish the whole deal took about 10 days which included me sending them a check and them sending the gun to my FFL. Honestly the gun was so well taken care of and described perfectly that I was taken back when I opened it at the gun shop. Best part- my wife loved can't stop looking at it and wants to go shooting clays this Friday & Saturday! Hunter Sports was so easy to deal with and gave me amazing customer service I wish they were closer so I could browse their selection. read more

They talk down to me like I'm not going to understand the intricacies of what I'm considering. So chauvinistic! My father recently purchased his first shotgun from these guys. Most of the staff are friendly, courteous and extremely knowledgeable, especially Adam. We have been back a few times to pick up ammo and he was always extremely helpful and eager to educate those of us with only limited experience without being condescending. Seriously, we basically had "beginner" written all over our faces but we didn't feel belittled at all. Overall, I recommend this place highly, especially if Adam is working that day. Now here is my one complaint: there's an older guy that works there- maybe a retired cop? I'm not sure- but he was working there once instead of Adam and we did not care for his attitude at all. Very stuck up and actually seemed annoyed that customers were trying to give the store business! It's weird, the number of reviewers with only one or two reviews under their belt writing one star reviews and slamming Hunter Sports, and recommending other gun shops! Anyway... Without getting into details about my own gun ownership (this is a public review) I'll say I've had a good experience buying from Adam on more than one occasion. Nobody minds if you browse and there has to be a crowd if you are feeling ignored. Buying a firearm takes a while with all the paperwork so don't feel slighted if you are behind a slow customer. They are also pretty up on the NYC rules which are a bit confusing, and they aren't even a city shop. read more

There are two reviews on here that list their poor customer service and arrogant attitude... It's all true. "They act like they are doing you a favor" and "if you are not their boy don't go there" I agree110%. I only went there b/c a friend referred me. I picked up my first gun there and it was no problem... Cuz they had it there. When I bought my second gun, quite the contrary. I called them up to ask for a gun and they tell me it's in their warehouse. I drive there to pick it up and they say they "messed up" and didn't get it from the warehouse. "Call me before to come next week". A week goes by and they tell me they had to order it. Another week and they tell me "call me back in TWO HOURS" (with attitude, of course) Another week and they are blaming "their guy at the distributor". So, I end up buying something else from them to get this transaction over with. I bring it home and there was rust on the barrel and it was missing the front sight. My friends told me to take it back and have them make it right. I just felt like it wasn't even worth it. I just don't wanna deal with them again. It's not even like their prices are good anyway! I gave them two stars cuz I think their selection is 1/2 way decent for a small shop, however, they would get a zero from me for everything else. read more

I come here to get most of my things. The staff is very friendly and treats people with respect. They are reasonably priced and never steered me wrong. They are honest about their prices and never try to just sell you the big ticket items. They get a feel for your personality and guide you on where you should go. I've been to other places and have been taken advantage of in the beginning before I really knew about the merchandise. The guys here took the time out and explained everything to me before selling anything to me making sure I was now knowledge about it, whether on not I purchased the product. Absolutely the best gun shop on Long Island. I've been to a few shops in Suffolk County, and none of them compare to Hunter. Biggest and best selection by far. The staff were very helpful, even when it got busy. I purchased my first Kimber 1911. Mark took the time to show me how to properly break it down and clean. I was looking for a great 357 for Plinking. Adam went through a Dozen revolvers until I settled On a SW 327 TRR8. The trigger Is super smooth and the gun Handles 357 effectively. Shooting wad cutter 38 is like Butter. No kick at all... tight Grouping. I recommend Hunter! read more

Don't expect a fair deal much less any breaks here. The owner Mark is interested in his profit margin and separating you from your money. I bought two firearms here paying more than I had to just to support a local business. He actually suggested I return some Filson gear that I had just purchased from another dealer and then buy it from him at the same price so he could make an additional sale. He heard I had an invite to hunt some private land and actually tried to invite himself. Talk about low class.... I prepaid for a spare magazine and he never followed up. When I called he gave me a long story about how the were back ordered and tried to beat me out of the magazine. Bottom line..... poor business man and zero customer service. I had a bad experience at hunter sports. I went in to buy some 223, and they told me I was only allowed to buy 20 rounds. When they got my shocked response to this, the guy developed a real attitude with me and said "well then don't buy it" I really felt like I was being treated like a criminal, for wanting to buy some ammo to use at the range. I went over to the South Shore Sportsman and picked up 200 rounds no problem. I don't know if I went on a bad night, or just got a bad sales person, but I don't think I'll ever return to this store. read more

Visited the store for the 3rd time this year to buy ammo. Every time I shop there, I am amazed at the poor, unfriendly attitude from every employee in the store. This time, the store wasn't busy at all, and the employees had no interest in being helpful. It's almost as if you are bothering them by asking them a question.
