In comparison to the other thrift shops near Deseret Industries, I would say this one rotates through the most stuff. I feel like DI gets a bulk of the donations and so the items can vary pretty much day by day. Their pricing is awful. They have employees in the back who decide the pricing. There is no consistency and sometimes things are extremely overpriced. The employees are always very nice though. The thrift shop feels clean and they just redid their flooring. If you are looking for household items or decorative items, this is your thrift store. If you are looking for clothing, I would hit up the goodwill or savers. read more

Very clean location. A lot of parking spots. They have an interesting setup for the glass case though. They make you wait in line just to look at it. Not sure if it's due to Covid but you might waste 30mins just to look. I didn't like the lady practically yelling at me saying I had to wait my turn. Never again. It's bad enough that these people are money grubbers to begin with. I donated some clothes and found one of the coats I donated on a rack for almost $30. How these deplorable people can claim to help the poor is beyond me. From now on It's the boys and girls clubs or the road home. Not a ponzi scheme hiding behind a churches cloak. read more

This place is not what I remember it to have been. I know Covid changed things but the service and selection could do better.

Lots of decent clothing for cheap. The staff on the other hand is usually terrible. Every time I've shopped here I've always had a cashier that can't be bothered to say hello or speak in a friendly tone. I'm always nice to staff everywhere i shop. There's no excuse. The last time i was there, some sullen female who worked the register didn't say a word to me, made no eye contact, while chatting with the woman behind me in line. When she was done ringing my items up, she very pointedly held out my receipt straight out in front of her, as if she was going to hand it to the woman behind me (instead of me) and said in a bored tone of voice, "here's your receipt." So, hooray for cheap clothing. Negative stars for staff who make you feel like you're less than human as you make your purchases. I'm not expecting white glove service at a thrift store, but you can at least hire people who have basic manners if they represent a charitable organization. read more

DI. If you are from Utah you know exactly what those two letters stand for...you can just say DI and everyone knows exactly what you are talking about. When I think of Utah and things I miss about living in Utah this store is what I really miss. This is basically a thrift store run by the Mormon Church...somewhat like a Goodwill Store but 10 times better. You must remember that in Utah people think differently and when they have something they do not need anymore half the time they just end up giving it to DI so that it can be resold to provide funds to help out the jobless in the community. This is stuff that in any other state someone would sell on Craigslist or eBay but here in Utah they give it away to Deseret Industries. If you are down on your luck or starting out on your own this is a great place to spend your money. A nice couch will set you back 25 or 30 bucks. A desk or dresser might be 15 or 20 bucks. I got a rechargeable grass edger that worked completely fine for 10 bucks. Really are you serious? I would not lie to you. I never bought much else besides furniture and gardening or home stuff here...they had a huge selection of clothes and household stuff but for some odd reason I was always interested in the bigger stuff. They have a whole outside area where they keep the outdoor stuff and they also have a small area where you can plug electronics stuff in and test them out before you buy. Remember this is Utah so the store is closed on Sunday...do not plan on shopping on that day of the week here. They do a great job at this store...I really miss shopping here. :0) read more

I have mixed feelings about the Layton DI. I've found wonderful skirts for $6 or less and have been able to find outfits for models for photoshoots. The DI can be (and usually is) every photographer's dream shop. I've shopped various DIs and Savers. Whoever prices things at the Layton DI is drunk. I've been looking to do a vintage bridal shoot, and so of course stopped at the DI to look at wedding dresses and formals. I've checked several times. Each time there is not a dress under $50. Last time there was this atrocious ball of ruffles from the 90s with a broken zipper, sold "as-is" and they wanted $150 for it. It doesn't matter the condition, there are dresses that are yellow with age, and still the price is $80. I think they tend to forget they make a profit off of everything as it's all donated, unless they don't sell it that is. On the other hand I was able to snag a Specialized bicycle (without seat) for $8, and an adorable bohemian sequin skirt for $6. Sooooo, at this DI you win some and lose some. I have noticed, that out of all the DI stores I shop, that this one tends to be the most expensive. read more

Deseret Industries, affectionately labeled "the DI" here in Utah, is a as common a landmark as their mountain ranges and Mormon churches. Walking into this familiar landscape in a foreign land was quite an experience. An experience I can liken to one of a kid who grows up in cookie cutter community, then goes to their friend's house on the other side of the country only to find their own home with different furniture. In this case, I think they had discerned that some items were worth more than the standard $4. In other words, someone found out about eBay. Slightly more expensive, but still pretty cheap. I got three cute dresses (surprisingly sassy for Mormon second-hand) and a belt in less than a 1/2 hour and $15. Who knew that Utah of all places could host a Mari-style Heaven. Unfortunately, there are about 30 more DI's within 30 miles of here and I'm only around for the weekend. Gosh darn it. read more

This is the cleanest thrift store I've ever been to! First of all, it is well organized by category. Second, there are a lot of items; it was overwhelming to say the least. Thirdly, the workers were all friendly and near by to answer any questions. Some things they can work on: 1. Have price tags on the furniture items. 2. Have categories for books. (This might be too time consuming, but would be greatly appreciated!) 3. Have the air conditioning higher... It gets hot since it's a bit bright in there. Although, I haven't bought anything yet. I will definitely come back when I have more time to look around. read more

Big thrift store with a huge selection of merchandise. Prices are ok. I have shopped at Deseret Industries in Las Vegas, I think the prices in Layton are higher. Layton was busy, a lot of people in the store. Looking forward to going back to the LV DI to shop there . read more

Layton Store: I LOVE this store. I have been shopping in Utah DI's for over 35 years. I love all the people who work there too. I have a stressful business to run and going into this store is always a treat. I allow myself time to chat with employees as well as other shoppers. I have met many interesting people throughout the years. I have purchased many different things including large items as well as small. There are some things I love to collect. I have found the Layton store to be much more favorable as they have an excellent selection of furnishings as well as designer clothing. I purchase things for struggling family members as well as myself. Their prices are very good. I have encouraged many other people to shop there as well. I love their job training. There is such a good spirit there and I know my dollars are well spent and prefer to provide jobs and skill training for so many deserving people.
