Recently , I was trying to take in a stray mackerel tabby cat- over the previous month- my Atlas, they serviced me on Sunday with the after hours clinic and made his passing easy and I was satisfied that he was comfortable and that we made the best choice. This review is strictly for their mobile rabies clinic. The Desert Cross crew here travels around Cochise County every three months for a mobile rabies clinic servicing Tombstone, St David, Benson, and Willcox. They are contracted through Cochise County. I attended the clinic in Tombstone yesterday at the Small Animal Shelter, which ran from 9am to 10am. Desert Cross crew and volunteers worked the stations. My five-year old GSD Gretel needed her rabies. I live in Sierra Vista. Tombstone is a 40-minute drive to the shelter on the south side of town. I made sure I got there early so that I wouldn't be in a long line of cars. I had nothing to worry about. I arrived at 9:20am and there were only four cars ahead of me. In the short time I waited in line, a crew member wrote down all my pet's information and contact numbers so by the time it was my pet's turn for her rabies, all I had to do then was hold Gretel's head while the DVM gave her the vaccine between the shoulder blades. Gretel didn't flinch. I never left my vehicle. I was out of there in ten minutes! That's the fastest vaccine clinic I've been to. Everyone working the stations was fast, friendIy, and efficient. I appreciated the drive-thru version as Gretel is very reactive to other dogs. This way she wasn't stressed and neither was I. This clinic takes cash only. Rabies is the only vaccine the clinic provides. but for$20 that is a steal. It also does microchipping for $20. Most clinics now charge $30. It also vaccinates goats and pigs and horses but I didn't see any livestock during my short visit. You get a hand-written certificate and a rabies tag. The crew then went to St David and Benson before returning to home base. That's a lot of driving and makes for a long day, but a valuable community need was fulfilled. read more

Desert cross is the only vet available to us locally so I appreciate the service the vets do. They take very good care of my dogs and I've never had a problem with the service from anyone in the staff. Unfortunately that doesn't extend to the lady that runs the check in right as you walk in. I've considered not going back a few times due to her treatment and attitude towards my father and I. I have no clue why she is so miserable but, why let it affect your job? Her attitude has directly affected my experience of the place, and many of my friends with pets who visit the clinic agree. We've all recounted are dreaded run ins with her. We are all Gen-Z as well, so no we're not just Karens complaining. I genuinely dread the thought of going back but there is no other option available. read more

We have a cat with some ear problems and I scheduled an standard exam to have her checked. When we were taken to the room to wait for her exam we waited 10 minutes before the doctor came in the room saying that they couldn't exam her because she was being feisty. I don't know exactly what they did in the back room but they just prescribed me some ear medicine for "what could be mites". Basically, I paid for an examination that didn't even happen would not recommend. read more

I brought my little dachshund out with 103 fever and in respiratory distress, which both are emergencies. They did nothing to relieve my dog's breathing or her fever and sent us home with amoxicillin. She got worse throughout the day and couldn't breathe and in extreme respiratory distress. So I called the emergency number and begged for someone to call me back but no one ever did and my little girl died that night. I don't understand why they didn't help her while we were there. Kind, thorough, fast with the very heartbreaking results from tests, because we didn't know what was wrong, and very affordable. I will never take our dogs back, they DO NOT know how to handle smaller dogs. Our Shih Tzu couldn't move for 3 days after they drew his blood. They messed his ribs up so badly that he couldn't move for 3 days, and he cried when we picked him up to take him out to the bathroom. His little leg also was hurt badly and he limped for 5 days. I took my dog to the mobile clinic in Willcox for exam and vax. I thought sure the vet would tell me how she needed a dentistry. She's 4 and had a dentistry at 3. But no she actually said she does have tarter buildup on back teeth but not terrible and can wait another year. It's a bit strange since I was waiting outdoors and my dog was inside the van but I get it. It's a van and there's not much space inside. I'm ok with that. I was a vet tech 7 years and I trust them to take care of her and they did. She was perfectly happy coming out of the van. They are limited on their services but it's better than nothing. Desert cross is always only one call away. They have been able to help me and my pets a few times over the last 7 months. They are awesome in response to emergency pet visits and have helped me on days they were closed. They also provide emergency service for not much of a cost. If I had a recommendation, it would be to inform pet parents how much their tests and shots run beforehand, as I'm always a little bit stunned when the bill pops up. This place was recommended to me by my previous Vet. I drove 2 hours from Phoenix, AZ , unfortunately my experience was horrible. Yesterday I observed the most unprofessional, rude and inappropriate behavior at this facility. Employee by the name of Lisa exhibited this behavior toward a customer over the phone, demanding her dog be picked up as soon as possible. Lisa's tone was negative and unprofessional throughout the call. When customer walked in to pick up her dog, Lisa was rude and told the customer "Oh well, we've done all we could." Lisa then turned to her fellow colleagues and proceeded in venting to them in saying she was glad the customer picked up her dog because the dog was difficult and never wanted to see them again. I immediately felt uncomfortable, picked up my dog and left. I am very disappointed with the customer service at this place and will never come here again. read more

Deb is great, no nonsense and kind. She's always been there for us when we needed her. Her care and treatment is top notch and and pricing is affordable. She never talks down to you and truly loves the animals. That's why we drive almost 90 miles to see her. The staff is great as well. Tucked away back toward the mountain, the area is nice with a big parking lot for cars on one side and horse trailers on the other. There is a side door for pets on their way to heaven. The interior is woodsy-western comfortable inside. I really thought about NOT writing this review because if too many folks find this place, there may not be room for me and my critters again. A little on the selfish side eh.... However, our 'kids' deserve the best and the BEST is right here in Safford Arizona. The staff is beyond knowledgable and friendly. Although they are a good vet and could have gotten a great review from me for services.. my issue is with billing. Make sure to get in writing the total cost for your service prior to service rendered. They say one thing then charge you a different amount, much higher than the verbal quote they repeatedly reassured you it would cost. read more

I absolutely love this VET office! They took great care of my dog after having a long night with my dog. Dr Deb took my call at midnight and gave me advice to get my dog through the night... She gave me the option to bring her in during the middle of night but said she should be fine till morning. She was seen quickly on a Monday morning and they decided to hospitalize her for 24 hours. Dr. Debbie Chapman and her colleague saved my dog's life. He was very sick and last week they went above and beyond to do their due diligence to help him. They did not charge for certain procedures as they knew I had already spent a few hundred dollars at another vet who did not help him. I am so grateful for Dr. Chapman and her team who clearly care more about animals than money. The details of my whole experience are below. I will drive the 2 hours for Dr. Chapman to help my dog in the future. I took my French Bulldog to Paws in early January of this year, because I noticed that he had been lethargic, sleeping a lot, had dry skin and did not want to eat. I had found and removed two ticks on him a week apart and I also found a lump on the side of his rib cage area. He is normally an extremely curious and playful dog, but was not his usual self. I took him Paws to see what was going on with him. Dr. Keenan was very polite and seemed genuine. He did not think the lump was anything serious and said he may have some food allergies or possibly Valley Fever. He gave me the options regarding the cyst (i.e.-biopsy, surgery) and also gave me options regarding what could help his skin (i.e.-EPA vitamins, such as fish oil). He also did a blood test for tick born diseases. I got the results right away and they were negative. About two weeks later, after changing his food and giving my dog the vitamin and noticing that the cyst had not changed and that he still was not eating, seemed very lethargic, and was wheezing from time to time, I took him back. This time, Dr. Keenan said we should test for Valley Fever and then take it from there. His assistant took my dog's temperature in his ear and no one seemed concerned. He said I could do x-rays, but they would have to ship those out for a radiologist to read and it would take a few days. A day later, my friend was watching my dog while I was away on a work trip and he ended up taking my dog to a different vet (Desert Cross Veterinary Hospital) where he lives in Thatcher, Az. He said he knew something was wrong, because he was not himself (same symptoms mentioned above). The vet at Desert Cross took his temperature rectally, not in his ear as was done at PAWS. His temperature was 105 (high fever for a dog). The vet also said she suspected Valley Fever as well, but would do an x-ray of his lungs (free of charge), because she could hear that he did not sound well. She did the x-ray there and read it there that same day. It did not need to be sent to a radiologist like PAWS did. She said she was 99% sure he had Valley Fever, plus he had a secondary lung infection. She kept my dog for 2 days and administered anti-biotics and 2 days later when PAWS had the results of the test confirming Valley Fever, she prescribed medication for this, but she had already started treating him for it after she had done the x-ray and was treating him for the fever. She looked at the results, which we had faxed from PAWS and also saw his Thyroid was not functioning well. She prescribed medicine for that also. My dog is now on the road to recovery and it only costed $600 and one visit with her. All of her fees were dramatically less than what PAWS charged me ($350) in two visits and did not do much for my very sick dog. PAWS even told me the x-ray would be an additional $300 with them and would need to be sent out. Dr. Chapman did that for free and read the x-ray herself that same day! I will drive 2 hours from now on to take my dog back to Dr. Chapman in Thatcher. PAWS over charges and does not deliver. It seems to me that money is more of a concern to them than actually doing what they can to keep Pets well. By the way, the vet, Dr. Debbie Chapman, in Thatcher also took a biopsy of the lump. I'm still waiting on the result of that. FREE OF CHARGE. PAWS is NOT worth it. Their politeness and nice facility does not pay off when you leave a few hundred dollars short and still have a sick dog on your hands with nothing to help him. read more

Great veterinarian and staff! I had an emergency with my dog early in the morning on the 4th of July. I'm not from the area and was staying about an hour away. I looked them up on-line and called around 6 am. I was told to come to the hospital and they would meet me there. Unfortunately, my dog didn't survive the trip, but I deeply appreciate the veterinarian and her staff's response to my emergency. read more

I came here to have my four legged buddy Diesel patched up. Diesel's brother Turbo is an angry old man and gave him a bit of a beat down for bothering him. Being a bully breed he was quite good at hiding his injury from me for two days until it became infected. I had no appointment, they were double booked, and I had to get to Phoenix for a VERY important business meeting. This was not a good combination. Within five minutes of arriving my boy was getting help. An x ray, ear cleaning, and some meds I was on my way. Hands down the best experience I could have had in this situation. This place is horrible! Not only are her prices outrageous, but they take your animal out of the room to treat them and look them over! I live in safford so I had to get my dog fixed here. My dog was from a shelter, and was covered in ticks before going in. The vet couldn't even do me a favor while she was taking care of my dog and remove all the ticks?! I had pointed it out to her before my dog went into surgery, if she could give her a full health checkup. I got my dog back with all her ticks, and a still growing yeast infection! I took my dog in a month later, and she only gave her her shots even though I, again, asked for a full checkup to make sure my dog was okay. At the time, I didn't know about my dog's yeast infection, but it was still there! She smelled horrible, had dark black skin that wasn't there before, she itched like crazy, had oily fur and skin and all this vet said was it was allergies! Now here I am seven months later with a dog who is SUFFERING with a yeast infection that I now know about only because I did some extensive research. Save your money for a trip down to the valley and a better veterinarian who cares more about animals than the paycheck she recieves! Would give even less than a full star if I could. read more
