I've had a terrible experience with Desert Financial Credit Union credit card issued by Elan. I didn't use the credit card much because I had other credit cards with better rewards so historically they would let me know that if I didn't use the card they would close it. Since I'd had the card for over 20 years I didn't want to give it up and once or twice a year I'd make a purchase to keep it active which is what they told me to do. I received an email on July 1st at about 8pm that said "You have a new notice for your card ending in xxxx. Account Closure Notice is now available. To view your notice, log in to your account." This is what I'd historically get notifying me to use the card, however, this time when I tried to log in it wouldn't let me. Instead it said "It looks like your account requires some extra attention. Give us a call at the number on the back of your card, and one of our customer service representatives will be happy to help." So I called them and they told my account was closed July 2nd, and a letter was send on June 30th saying my account was closed due to inactivity. So no notice or opportunity to use the card before they closed it, all timed perfectly so that I didn't get the opportunity to do something about it. Interestingly, the supervisor I spoke to on the phone said they'd be happy to take a new application to open a new account. I told them that if that's how they treat someone that had their card for over 20 years, I wanted nothing to do with them. I have a near perfect credit rating and work hard to maintain that, quite upset that they care so little for someone who had been a client for over 20 years that they do this, and do it this way. Okay after the Grinch that stole Christmas was set aside that the manager at the McDowell Road branch someone else named Aisha stepped in as a result of a BBB complaint and she made everything right she removed the freeze on my savings account expedited the clearance of the funds called another Branch personally to have them cash the check when it was cleared and she gave me a $200 gift card wave to magic wand and made everything right it's amazing how One Bad Apple can absolutely ruin the holidays and one more Good Witch of the West can come in and save everything I was really impressed by that . read more

Similar experience as another review. I have been a customer for about 30 years. they cut me off from my money twice in 2 weeks, they are harassing and telling me it's all my fault. Their employee openly admitted that the website had been spoofed, I opened new accounts and the same thing happened again. After onerous demands on their part, I closed my accounts and left the credit union. They however decided they would not close my account, they racked up $1025 in bill pay charges which they expect me to pay. I have filed a complaint with NCUA, for the fraudulent charges. Just be leery of this place. They are a problem. read more

Desert Financial is fine as a credit union. This branch though, don't try to deposit ANYTHING using the ATMs (both drive thru and walk up). Every single time I try to use them, they either are completely frozen, or do not accept deposits. I have been with Desert Financial for over a year now and unfortunately, they do not have many branches in the west valley. I work shift work, so I usually stop by during non business hours. If you need to deposit money, the ATMs are useless. Go during business hours and walk in. It's 2023 and they still can't get their ATMs to work. read more

Every single time I come here the ATM's NEVER work. That is a major service to your customers that is never fully operational. Because the atms never work the lines inside the branch are always long. I banked with this company for 20+ years, being a loyal customer and even opening a credit card with them. Unfortunately I was a victim of a scam. When I went to the bank to see what they could do to help, they simply told me it was my fault and I was responsible for the negative balance in my account (-1500). Although I was upset, eventually I called down and asked if we could set up a payment plan. I had $1000 in my other accounts(for bills and Christmas) and essentially they said "ef your payment plan, we will take what little money you have to bring your account current". So they basically didn't give me a choice, took the other money and said I owed $450. I closed my account with them because I don't want to be associated with a bank that is not customer centered and willing to work with a loyal customer for 20+ years. Words from a true customer: Do yourself a favor and go to chime or another credit union or bank. They don't utilize zelle. You can only transfer 500 bucks a week. They charge you ATM fees. If you need to withdraw from another ATM when you're out of state. They offer only 2 if you hit 3. They will take your money. They don't care. This credit union is garbage! I was considering opening an account here, because a side job I am doing is paying me with checks from them, so I thought it may be easier, when I went into cash a check, that was written from a checking account in their bank, they charged me seven dollars! Seven freaking dollars to cash a check from their bank after bank! Desert Schools was great when I first joined about 10 years ago. The Fusion account gave me 4% on my CHECKING account! As long as I kept my balance above the minimum, had my paycheck direct deposited and made at least 30 NON-PIN purchases every month, they would give me the 4% interest, free ATM withdrawals from anybody's ATM and they didn't have a monthly charge. About 2 years ago, they stopped reimbursing me when I used non Desert Schools ATMs. They also quit paying me interest on my checking account. ZERO interest. Now I hear they are going to change their name. Well, isn't that special! What a great way to spend the fees that you rip people off with. I am closing my account and moving to Mountain America Credit Union. read more

I used this ATM to make shared branching deposits because my credit union is so far. I have had several issues with their ATM after hours, but just recently I finally learned my lesson. It was around 9pm in a Friday and I was making a cash deposit of $500.00. I had an early morning flight and need to get the cash in my account. I inserted twenty $20 bills and one $100 bill. Their raggedy ATM ate up all of the 20s in my deposit and spit out one ripped $100 bill. I was mortified! No receipt or anything. The screen just said error and the lights on the machine all turned red. I called the number on the ATM only to be told they could do nothing because I am not their member. I had to reschedule my flight and get back there first thing in the morning before they opened and wait. I was able to speak with the branch manger and he told me the same thing. Luckily my credit union, Arizona Federal, was able to give me a provisional credit while they investigated and they settled everything after about 7 days. I wouldn't use this ATM again nor would I use DFCU or Desert Schools as they weren't very helpful. read more

Went in to pay off a loan via shared branching. Needed to have them fax confirmation of cash payment to my credit union to expedite a title release. I've now called five times and still not had the confirmation sent to the proper receiving party. When I called the fifth time, I reached a central hub and spoke with an extremely rude female who hung up on me when I requested to be transferred to someone at the specific branch I'd gone to earlier in the day. Long story short: I will NEVER do business with this institution again. They print like 50 pieces of paper before transactiin is done. Their printers are slow too. But the people are nice. What I did find wierd is that I was looking at a moniter while she was working on my transaction. It shows every camera angle on every customer. I can see a man type his info on the little pad for a brief moment. I just thought it was funny to see close ups of faces at the counters too glad I didnt see mine lol. read more

I have a love hate relationship with this desert schools. Some of the ppl are very sweet and some are not. The walk up ATM can read my card and the drive thru ATM can't. No other stares or ATM's have issues reading my card. Just that 1. The location is very convenient though and the closest 1 to me. This is the worst bank I have ever banked with. Customer service is non existent and overdraft fees are absolutely horrendous. They are not willing to help at all with over draft fees even when they are not warranted (I just deposited a check and withdrew money and they charged me an overdraft fee even though there was money in my account. There is no one to assist during weekday evenings or weekends, and they do not tell you this, the phone message just repeats over and over again. I would never choose this credit union again... This credit union is one of the best I've been to. Every time I come in the lines move fast, the tellers are happy, and there are never any issues. I actually bank through a credit union out of state but because they have shared banking they take care of me here as if I have an account through them. I've been a member at DSFCU for many years. Frankly, I am appalled at how poor the Tellers have become. The majority of the Tellers I interact with, both in the drive through and inside, are unable to add correctly, subtract correctly, count money, or follow the most basic instructions. I have even tried writing my instructions down, but that doesn't seem to work either. And they are incredibly slow. Today, after waiting in line for about 15 minutes behind two other members I couldn't even get the Teller to cash a $300 check and then give me an additional $140 from my account. It was too difficult for them to understand. In my experience, events like this are the norm when I visit the Credit Union. I've even addressed it with the Manager and nothing has changed. If you choose to bank here plan plenty of time for your visits, double check everything and expect to be frustrated. read more

Just paid off a car loan with these people (a 5 year loan which I paid off early after 4 years). Well, it took 2 months to get my title after paying it off! Come to find out it took DSCU a month to process the payoff and send the info to AZ MVD. This is really unacceptable (most banks are 7 to 10 days). Then I went in to close the required savings account that was opened when I got the car loan which had a $25 balance. They handed me a $20 bill and told me that they recently (without telling me) started charging $5 per month service charge on savings accounts FOR THE PRIVILEGE OF KEEPING YOUR MONEY IN THEIR BANK. Pretty rude customer service too for the few times I have gone into this branch. Definitely the worst credit union I have ever dealt with. I have used Desert Schools FCU for over 15 years. In the last year they have provided the worst banking experience. They're ATMS frequently are out of services. Their process for deposits have failed. They randomly freeze my son's account for debits that don't exist. They had process issues over the holidays that block us from using our own money while on vacation! The people they hire know nothing about banking and are not empowered to think or problem solve. I have 8 accounts with them including a business account. I have used them to finance my house and cars. I will be closings all of my accounts and loans asap. I currently set up and banked with this location, i came in to make a payment on a loan and had to cash advance it ( which cost money), so the teller lady does her thing and i get my receipts and leave, 4 weeks later i get a call that i asking for a payment and that i did not make a payment, i argued and they said the lady cash advanced money into my savings.. first if she was a good teller she would realize that doesnt make any sense. so i went in the same bank and talked to the manager and said i want my money back that i was charged from well fargo for, she said she cant do that to go to wells fargo and get it, Why would i go bug wells fargo for your mistake? i do not reccommend this bank to anyone, best person there was the lady who closed my account, tellers are inexperienced and should not be working there and manager of them is no help either, very poor customer service and she didnt even put a effort and seeing what she could do for me on getting me my money for there mistake, just said no. read more
