I came to Dr. Gellar probably 6 years ago about some foot problems and pains I was getting when running and doing high impact exercise. He suggested custom orthotics and honestly, they were life changing! I don't remember the exact cost but I do remember they weren't cheap - definitely in the several hundreds. But, six years later I'm still using the same custom orthotics in my shoes that were molded to my feet and I immediately stopped having those foot pains upon using them, so the money was well worth it. About a year and a half ago, I sent a very picky socialite that had been visiting Arizona and was a guest at where I worked to Dr. Geller after she hurt her ankle. She had raved about him so when my current podiatrist and a second opinion Dr. could not diagnose what was wrong, I decided to try Dr. Geller. I could immediately tell the difference that Dr. Geller was not only knowledgeable but he actually cared about me as a patient and wanted to do whatever he could to fix my issue. He walked me through step by step, made me feel comfortable and even answered all my annoying little questions. Even his office assistant who schedules his appointments and greets patients at the door was caring and empathetic of my situation. Makes me think some of the other reviewers did not actually go see the same Dr. as their reviews are way off from what I experienced. Obviously the most important thing was him solving my issue that had been bothering me for 4 months however I think it was the little things that made him go from a great Dr. to one of the best for me. One example was me coming into his office to get my toe worked on and knowing I work in a corporate office setting where I needed to dress the part, he asked me if I would rather have a black foot shoe instead of a blue one so it would be less noticeable in the office. This may seem small and insignificant to some however to me it showed he was not only perceptive (which is what you need a Dr. to be) but he genuinely cared about how my foot would impact me outside of the office visit (also important). Dr. Gellar is a godsend. He's really helped me to pinpoint what is going on with my old foot injury and prescribed PT for me to work through the issues. He has a very dry sense of humor (my favorite) and gets right to the point (another plus in my opinion). He's extremely knowledgable, is good at explaining your diagnosis in layman's terms and provides the best solution to your problem. So glad I found him! read more

I would have originally given Dr. Gellar a 3 star rating, I felt his appointments were extremely short and a lot of guess work was involved in the diagnosis. That being said I'm no doctor and for all I know he could have been spot on, I don't know because my pain continues and I will be seeing a different Doctor. Dr Gellar and I saw each other 3 times, 2 for X-rays (15 min appointments at the most) and once was a simple how does it feel and keep wearing your boot (less than 5 total min.). He discussed surgery with me briefly saying if the pain continues he could go in and clean it up, never mentioned an MRI to check for ligament damage. At that point I decided I would not be seeing Dr Gellar again. The reason I dropped the review from 3 stars to 1 is I feel Dr. Gellar took advantage of me and my insurance by billing for a full appointment on my less than 5 min visit that could have easily taken place via phone. On that visit, which was the middle of the three, I was not asked to pay the co-pay and if I was I would have disputed it immediately. The other two appointments I was asked to pay before leaving and I did so. I was afraid to find out what was going on with my foot pain for the last few years, but Dr. Geller figured it out instantly. He offered me treatment options from the simplest to the most effective in the long run (surgery). He was realistic about the outcome, which has been amazing (no pain anymore), especially in terms of recovery. I needed rest and physical therapy...both recommended by Dr. Geller in his no-nonsense approach. No waiting and his office staff are exceptionally pleasant and empathetic. read more

I scheduled my first appointment with Dr Nelson for 6 June 2019. The office called me to reschedule because the doctor had surgery scheduled for that day. I rescheduled for 27 June and this morning I got another call that the doctor has surgery scheduled for that day as well. I ended up canceling the appointment and I will never use that practice. The staff is unable or unwilling to coordinate the doctors scheduling so that a patient can see him for a consultation. The staff are VERY inapt and do not know how to do their job. read more

My first experience with Dr. Gellar was pleasant enough- I came in for plantar fascitis. He gave me a steroid shot in my foot, some xrays and recommended I do some exercises to strengthen my foot. I did notice however that he did not have good bedside manner and was somewhat short and terse in his communication with me. Even after his said recommendations, my problem persisted a few more months and I came back to see Dr. Gellar. The second around, Dr. Gellar was quite rude and somewhat demeaning towards me accusing me of not doing the exercises and then asked me to show them to him. He then said I was doing the exercises incorrectly in which I asked him how to show me the proper way in which he did not. He said I shouldn't be coming in to his office anymore if I am just not going to do the exercises correctly. In which my thoughts were well, okay then show me please. I was very taken aback from how he treated me that visit. From our interaction I could tell that Dr. Gellar was a smart physician, but without good communication skills and poor bedside manner, I will not be coming back to see him. I have been to see podiatrists 4 times in the past year with no clue as to why I had pain or numbness. After a few minutes with Dr. Geller, I understood my pain/numbness and had hope for treatment. I am improving and believe I will keep getting even better. I didn't think doctors with true knowledge and understanding were still around. Thank you Dr. Geller. I recommend this office highly. First, I want to acknowledge the very pleasant and helpful receptionist at this office. My low rating has nothing to do with her, but has to do with Dr. Gellar himself. I hesitated to post but, after getting a second opinion with much better care I felt needed to share to prevent others experiencing. While I realize a busy practice, it doesn't remove him from being kind and compassionate. In both my visits I felt I was frankly "bothering" him. I couldn't get eye contact, stood with back to me looking at computer when talked, half answer my questions and concerns, sarcastic and even ignoring me. To where one time I even found myself saying "I'm sorry" as felt bothering him. He said my symptoms were a-typical and he didn't seem to know, or care much what to do. Even said, it's just a toe. Maybe if I needed surgery he would of been nicer? I've never broken a toe before so all I could do is share what I was experiencing. Such as the way my toe was taped by him was causing new extreme nerve pain, but I was told "I doubt" it a few times. Mind you, I'm a very active person trying hard to get well as soon as possible. Yet I left each time not feeling he really cared. So I sought out a second opinion this week and I am very thankful I did!!! Not only was I treated with professionalism, kindness and compassion, I was told my symptoms "can" happen with my severe break and that the way taped was stretching my nerves. And that I probably did re-injured it as I thought and shared with Dr. Gellar who doubted, and was creating some of my healing challenges. Though the new doctor can't do much for treatment at this phase, he did a lot to validate what I was experiencing; while being kind and gentle in his care. First I'd like to say that Dr. Gellar is in his profession for all the right reasons - he is compassionate and doesn't want people to suffer. Secondly his calm presence, caring and understanding rivals a registered nurse's (and I know because I am one). I think a lot of doctors would have become frustrated with my anxiety and fears, just wanting to get the procedure over and move on to the next patient. However he took the time to allow me to focus and relax all the while maintaining his calm composure, never rushing me. And once I was ready, he numbed my foot with the freezing spray while trying to hide the needle for the block from my view. Had I not known what was going to happen I probably wouldn't have even noticed. I felt only a bit of discomfort during the injection and when the procedure began, I felt nothing. He talked me through it in distraction and before I knew it, I was done! If I ever have to have another foot procedure again, I wouldn't hesitate who I would call and I, as a very nervous and scared patient, would urge everyone to seek his help. read more
