There's the perfectly coifed yoga Mom, gathered around her other hot mom friends talking $hit about their husbands. Lastly, there's the universally reviled Helicopter Mom, romping after Sweet Baby Noah down the slide. Trust me, I'd love to relax in the shade catching up on Facebook drama or chatting up my friends but as a parent of a special needs child, I HAVE to shadow two steps behind my son or he'll run off and join a pack of javalinas. Anamax Park is the only park that I've found in the greater Tucson area that was designed specifically for such children and their families. The covered playground has a fence around the perimeter, with only one gate in and out. We visited this park on the Sunday during Memorial Day weekend, and oddly enough it was totally deserted. We were the only family at this 22 acre park. In addition to the little fenced in playground that we visited, there's also a sensory park, but that requires keys to get in which wasn't happening on a Sunday. My review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the bathrooms. Actually, that was kind of a problem...I'm pretty sure the restrooms are in the recreation center building, which was locked up. I'll spare you the grisly details on how that problem was resolved. I did mention that the park was totally deserted, didn't I?

I never knew this existed until I had some dealings with the people that live right next door to…read morethis garden. If you live in Green Valley or Sahuarita, I recommend checking this small botanical garden out. It is small, but very comfortable. It is lovingly cared for every week by volunteers who are there for four hours. It features desert vegetation, some of which I now know of their names, thanks to the labelling of the plants. There is a couple of "snake cacti" that are named as such because they are growing and winding their way up tree trunks and branches. (See photos) There are nice paved paths throughout the garden. There are several nice benches in which to sit and enjoy the view. There are brochures that list all the plants in the garden. Pick one up from the dispenser just after the entrance. (See photo) It is a peaceful garden and a nice one in which to relax and chill. There is a parking lot across from the gate, which is open 24/7. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. I might do repeat business if it is convenient, the only option, the only one in its category, or on a whim, but would not be among the first thing to come to mind. Would definitely recommend you trying it to get your own take on it. 2* = Not so good. Would not recommend at all. Waste of money. 1* = How are they still in business? Stay away at all costs!

Heard issues about parking but with so many picnic areas along with parking at trailheads, not sure what the complainers expect. We went early this am (around 730am) and the park was almost empty except for the birds. We hiked a couple of different trails, each one was well marked. If looking for birds, the area around the middle of canyon was abundant with all types of our feathered friends. Dozen of Acorn Woodpeckers posing along with many others. On drive to canyon keep eyes open for Hawks on the poles. All around great spot for hiking, birding and getting some fresh air.

We crossed the street and began our visit around 10am and immediately got into a line to spin a wheel for a discount at the pecan store. We only got 5% off, but I used it to buy some cinnamon pecans and hot sauce. Obviously they sold all sorts of pecans shelled, in the shell, covered with chocolate and yogurt, pies, honey, jam, and other non-pecan items. Coffee samples were available too. They had a bunch of vendors from local businesses, artisans, and food trucks. We watched a pecan cracking demonstration which was cool, pecan samples, and they had a guessing contest for a huge container of pecans. SRP was giving out totes and LED lightbulbs, what a neat giveaway. After visiting all the booths, it was time for lunch so we weighed our choices and my friend went with Peruvian cuisine and I stuck with Mexican: a bean and cheese burrito and a pecan horchata. The burrito was huge and delicious, so filling. I love when the beans are puréed and not chunky. My friend's paella came with green salsa and she let me have some, ooh that was so tasty. The horchata was on the sweet side and I didn't really taste the pecans but I'm glad I tried it. The gelato lady offered us samples and was nice! Wish I would've had room after lunch to eat some. We missed out on the hay ride but that sounded like a fun experience. We drove through the pecan orchard instead, would've been nicer to walk through the trees. Live music was playing and there was a lot of tables but also a lot of people, so be prepared to wait to sit as well as order your food. I'm glad I came to their 10th annual festival and would recommend it as a unique experience in Southern Tucson.

For a canned food donation or $1 you can hop on. The ride was narrated by a UofA professor and was super informative. They had tractor pulls, hay rides, live music, several food and drink vendors, along with the pecan store. A plethora of everything pecan! The other really cute thing was the high school dance team busting a move on stage. They were fabulous!! I'll definitely do this next year if I'm in town. And next time I'll bring canned goods for donation!

Mount Wrightson is one of the best hikes I have done in the Tucson area!…read more We hiked the Old Baldy trail with a large group, starting at 6:45 am. The trail is mostly tree-covered on the way up, and on this windy day we were all relatively cold rather than hot, despite what was a 4,400 ft elevation gain and a total of 11.08 miles. The hike took us 7 hours total, including some stops for rest and lunch. There is a very steady incline, making the trail easier than I expected for the amount of elevation gain. Only in the last mile to the top does it get noticeably steeper and more rocky. I liked how the trail was very straightforward, with very few intersecting paths, making it hard to get turned around. We only saw a handful of other hikers, many of which we passed by several times. With a long and challenging hike, it is nice to build rapport with and have encouragement from other hikers. The views at the top were incredible and truly make you feel like you are on top of the world! I would recommend starting early and coming prepared with friends, lunch, lots of snacks and water, and layers. It may be challenging, but you won't regret it!

This is a 10.4 mile (11.4 according to alltrails) out and back moderate/slightly strenuous hike…read moreabout 2 hours south of Phoenix (40 min south of Tucson). Total elevation gain is ~4100' (actually more than Humphreys). Alltrails rates it difficult but elevation gain is stead/constant throughout the 5 mile ascent. It gets a little rockier at the top, but there's no scrambling/rock climbing involved- no scootin' down necessary here! Breathtaking panoramic views from the summit, and there's a geocache box here too. Very clearly defined trail the entire way (I didn't get lost a single time). I passed 4-5 groups in tota, but I hiked this on a weekday. Started around 830am. It was 55 degrees and slightly cloudy. Made it to the summit in 2h31min and came back down in 1h31min. Dogs allowed on leash, restrooms at trailhead. @azfitfoodfun
