The cave tour was very fun!! The tourists said to say uhm Erik? Smells nice : ) and uhm Adam smell bad. The jokes make it so much funnier aswell as amusing!!! The cave was beautiful! I absolutely loved hearing about the evolution of people in the cave ask !..the demonstrations were vivid too. Amazing experience ! The the tour was about 50 minutes total, and only about 1/2 mile long. There are quite a bit of stairs but it wasn't too bad. It was a little warm, the tour guide said it was about 71 degrees inside. Our group wasn't too big and consisted of all types of people and age groups so it's perfect for the entire family. Our guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She cracked corny little jokes but it was cute and funny. You will get hot and start sweating so dress appropriately. There are multiple cave tours as well as hiking trails. The harder ones are a lot longer and aren't suitable for children under 12. Oh and masks are required! One of the best stable rides ever (and we have our own horses back home) !! Everyone is friendly at the ranch, which is clean, and a fun place surrounded by the beauty of the park. There is a petting zoo and some nice trails for those who do not want to ride. They do a great job of matching your ability to ride with the right horse. Our guide was the owner and her love for nature, the park and her ranch was contagious. She pointed out details in the rock formations, taught us about the flora and we saw wild fauna - deer, rabbits, bats and birds at our sunset ride and even kudamonday in the park. We have literally ridden on several continents and this could not have been more beautiful a place or a better ride. Great horses, people and location. We will definitely be back!!! read more

Everett absolutely made the whole tour experience the best! I got suddenly anxious before the ladder tour but their personality totally calmed me down and made me laugh throughout the hour and a half in the cave. The ladder tour was awesome and felt safe but adventurous when we went off the path of the general tour. 100 percent recommend to get out & do something different (plus the cave is always 71 degrees compared to the 100 + degrees in the summer heat) read more

We made a somewhat last-minute reservation for horseback riding and Jamie was able to fit us in after the cave tour. The entire experience was fantastic. The staff were accommodating and helpful, the guide was knowledgeable and fun to talk to. We're not experienced riders but all felt comfortable and impressed with the beautiful view along the trail. My family went riding for the first time 2 weeks ago and they were understandably nervous, especially my 11 year old nephew. Chris had a gentle manner that made my nephew laugh and reassured him that everything would be okay. The ride went exactly as Chris had said it would. My nephew had a wonderful time and said he can't wait to go riding again. In addition, Chris took videos and photos which he gave to my family for free at the end of the ride. Plus, the cost of the ride was very reasonable - less than other riding stables in the area. Wow! Wow! Wow! This "wrangler" absolutely sucked!! I apologize if she has some type of personality disorder, which deep down it could be Aspergers or somewhere along that line, but my goodness we felt like we had her working under a gun, yet we paid extremely too much for 2 adults and full price for out 3 year old who didn't even get her own horse!! She lagged the entire time. Upon arrival she was delivering food to other animals, fine feed these animals, but 30 minutes later we are finally greeted in person no formal name to name greeting, just come on into the office. Handed of forms of waivers and took nearly $175 from us! She then left to set up the horses as we stood and sat awkwardly at the bench tables. Gazing at the small petting zoo nearby. Which she never offered or acknowledged although via phone registration we were told it was included. Something they could have us engage in while being ignored!!!!!! My 3 year was very bubbly and chatty but this woman made us feel like we were interrupting her free time!!! Another 15 minutes later after she randomly collected 3 horses she says vaguely from way over at the loading dock "you can come over", so I am asking my husband should we pass on this trip, with this being only his second time, his well-being and safety is in a persons hand that made us feel extremely unwelcome. Uncomfortable to say the least. So she says "who is riding with the little girl""?" " I am riding with our daughter" I reply. So she parks a huge horse near steps and stands. " Do you want us in this horse?" I proceed to ask. " yes" she replies. I get near the horse and proceed to ask " Great, what is this horses name?" "Blonde" she states. "Great, how old is blonde?" I ask as I begin to rub Blonde and introduce myself to this gorgeous beast of a horse I am able to ride with my 3 year old whom I know nothing about. "12" is her response. At this point I figure I will stop pulling her teeth out with every question. We are on. She leads Blonde forward and facing away from the direction of exit....... She parks another gorgeous horse and stands. No questions asked my husband gets on in silence, displaying slight awkwardness and unaware of what to ask or say. She then leads his horse nose to but with Blonde. I encouraged him to greet the horse and ask the name and riding style. We were unsuccessful. His horse nipped gently at my horse so I attempted to more Blonde forward. She is STUBBORN! I ask the wrangler are they western or eastern she said west and I direct my husband to move his horse from ours. We look up and getting situated and she is exiting area on horse back. "Do we following you out now?" "Yes just be sure not to let them stop near the other horse" and waits for our departure. My husband struggles with his horse whom is not understanding my husband and his commands and I remind her he doesn't ride as often so can we get a mini crash course of some type. " Pull the reins to the direction you want to go." He tries and no response. She repeats her statement but this time slightly shows him. And finally she calls to the horse and he walks toward the group. I think to myself I am now in charge of keeping a 3 year old comfortable in a saddle with my not so tiny self and remind my husband how to properly balance his weight of 210 lbs on the horse we got absolutely no introduction to. And off we go following the leader. Whom vegans texting or strolling through her cellular device this second we made it out of the arena. 10 mins in she seems programmed to ask the usual question asked on these rides, " So where are you all from...?" I stare and look back at my husband. Breath deep and reply with only the state. Idaho. She continues to ride. We continue to follow. Awkward silence and 30 minutes into it she slows at a spot to say what seems to be programmed " sunset is beautiful here" and continues..... We act amazed, engaged and interested and continue to follow. The ride is what you make of it so we chatted amongst ourselves. Took tons of videos and photos along the way. Made sure this didn't ruin our fun and most importantly our daughter's. She did great and was well behaved and fell asleep on horse back!!! Ride was over she did not thank us nor wish us well. Although we did that. She said gate may be locked upon exiting the ranch so she gave us the gate code and we retuned the helmet we suggested at the beginning of the ride that our 3 year should were. When she replies with if you want. Lol Never returning unless it is a free ride. We wouldn't pay another dime for the experience! Horses are beautiful, animals and well-kept but my goodness she either had prejudice tendencies or mental delays. God forgive me if it is mental delays. We loved our experience. We reserved our time slot online, the day before. Chris, the tour guide and lead, was awesome! He was kind, we are a family of 5 with children ages 10, 7 and 5. We all felt very safe and really enjoyed our experience with the great horses. They were very smart, calm and confident horses. We enjoyed Chris' commentary about the history of the land, etc. during the ride. The horses were so good, I can sometimes be a bit of a nervous mom, but I never felt nervous because Chris had great command of the horses and the horses were so calm and well behaved. We all loved our experience at the petting areas as well. Baby goats, bunnies, emus, pigs, turtle, sheep, etc. we hope to come back again for a longer ride in the mountains when our kids are a little older. Thank you!!!! GREAT EXPERIENCE!!!! read more

This review is long overdue! My friend came to visit me from out of town and I'm usually the one that makes the itinerary of activities for us to do. After a very long google search, I came across this place and it looked pretty cool. The location is breathtaking. From the gift shop you can see the mountains and all the beautiful cacti miles out. Adam was our tour guide and he was absolutely phenomenal! He really knows his stuff when it comes to the history of this beautiful cave. He even told a few corny jokes to keep us laughing the entire time. It was also my first time ever seeing bats and I thought it was the coolest thing ever. They weren't as big as I thought they'd be though. Although it was quite the drive, it was well worth it and I'd come back a million times. I really only took videos but this is the best photo I got! We went on the cheapest tour and it still lasted about an hour. I 100% recommended going with friends and family! read more

Our family did a 45 minute ride through the area...it was fabulous. Joyce, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the area we were riding through and truly loves what she is doing. She was great with our 10 year old daughter, even allowing her to ride in the ring area after our ride was over, after learning she has been taking riding lessons. She knows each and every horse well, making it easy for her to pair a rider with a horse. So much so, that when helping my husband on Freddie, she reminded him he likes to stop for a snack of grass along the trail, and to not let him! The desert ride was breath taking. Also included was the petting zoo, which our daughter loved almost as much as riding Annie, the Norwegian Draft horse she rode through the desert! Bunnies, alpacas, chickens, mini horses, mini donkeys, pigs, goats, sheep....and we were lucky to be there when there were baby bunnies and kittens. Our family truly enjoyed our visit...the love and joy that Joyce has for the desert and animals really shows and was a big part. read more

We had Colossal Cave as an option for a work event. The organizer had a hard time finding anybody competent to handle the list of employees who wanted to to the cave tour OR stables. Finally I was able to make reservations for both, but surprise surprise, when we showed up at 10:30 like they directed, they had no reservation for us at the ranch and told us to come back at noon. This place is very poorly run. Luckily we were able to move up our cave tour so our time wasn't completely wasted. read more

We came on Easter Sunday for a 60 Minute Horse trial ride at 9 am. We arrived at 9 bit didn't end up leaving until almost 930. The operators were busy tending to the family that was in the small petting zoo. One of the helpers asked my husband to help him lift a pig into a different area. My husband was willing to help but I thought we were going to have a nice relaxing morning instead of helping out around the farm. They have about 20 horses on land. They all had water but I didn't see any hay out for them. They were rummaging through the dirt looking for food. I wasn't a huge fan of that. The trail ride itself was beautiful. The scenery was just what we were hoping for. I asked about the bobcat shooting in 2013 and was told that the ranch has since changed ownership. read more

Had a great ride with Chris. It was a neat experience hearing stories of the old west and how the environment there remains the same as it was 150 years ago. The trail went through a few different zones, creek, mountain and wash. Horses were really gentle and knew what to do for a beginner like me. We were looking for a place that would accommodate my son, 5. When we were done, they even let us strap our baby onto the horse for a quick ride. Petting zoo was fun, got to hold and touch any of the animals there (goats, sheep, pigs, emu, bunnies, chickens, ponies). My son really liked sitting on the tortoise. read more

The husband and I made a trip out to Vail to see the Colossal Cave and to go horseback riding! While waiting for our guide to return from a previous tour, we had time to see and pet all of the animals at their petting zoo! We went on the 45 min trail though had to cut it a bit short due to needing to make our cave reservation. The trails we went on horseback were amazing! The ground changes color many times and was a great ride! Husband lost his wallet on the trail which wasn't discovered until we went to our cave tour. We did return to the stables and they were more than willing to help go back on the trail and locate the lost wallet. Much much appreciated! Our tour guide was very informative with lots of stories and entertaining names for rock formations.We took the special ladder tour, which you need to reserve ahead of time during holidays. Located Only one hour from Tucson. Highly recommend to do with young teens. (Need to be 12 yrs. of age for ladder tour. ) If you have younger children, you would just take the standard tour instead of ladder tour. We spent a whole day at the park. We visited the caves in the morning and in the afternoon, we drove over to the ranch and were guided by Joyce on horseback through the park to get up close and personal with local flora and fauna. It's easy to picture oneself in another era, away from modern life's buzz when you're out on these trails. The horses were friendly and calm and we hung out at the ranch afterwards for a bit to pet all the other animals. Lots of opportunities for some "old west" photos. If you'd rather walk yourself, the trails are open to hikers. Be sure to pack a camera, water, drive easy on the roads and make it a day you won't soon forget. read more
