Well, it's hard enough to find a shop that knows hybrids AND will replace a transmission (the dude at the dealership couldn't even give me a quote), but they were also willing to do a used one, and at a reasonable price! Since then I've driven my car hundreds of miles around the desert (including up that grade to Yucca nearly every dang day) and now back to Portland and it drives beautifully. A reputable shop should provide a fair, honest estimate the first time--not test how much they can get away with charging. I didn't move forward with the repair, so I can't speak to the quality of their work, but the pricing approach alone was enough for me to take my business elsewhere.
