It is roughly bounded by South and North Main Street to the west, Power Street to the south, Governor Street and Arlington Avenue to the east and Olney Street to the north. The neighborhood's primary commercial area extends along Thayer Street, a strip frequented by students in the Providence area. We enjoy walking around this area during our morning or afternoon strolls and enjoy the beautiful colonial architecture throughout. The buildings are very well kept and renovated and many of them are part of the Brown University or the Rhode Island School of Design college. College Hill is the most affluent neighborhood in Providence, with a median family income of nearly three times that of the whole city. Portions of College Hill are designated local and national historic districts for their historical residential architecture. In 2011, the American Planning Association designated the neighborhood one of the "Great Places in America". The toponym "College Hill" has been in use since at least 1788. The name refers to the neighborhood's topography and numerous higher educational institutions: Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, Pembroke College, and the since-relocated Bryant University. Prior to Brown University's 1770 relocation to Providence, the area was known as Prospect Hill. College Hill boasts architectural styles from the 18th century onward, including residences and institutional structures. As Providence's colonial core, the neighborhood contains a number of the city's oldest structures. Among these are the Governor Stephen Hopkins House (1707), the Benjamin Cushing Sr House (c. 1737), the Jabez Bowen House (1739), and the John Corliss House (1746). College Hill is particularly noted for its 18th and 19th century mansions, many of which are situated on or near Benefit Street. Among these residences are the John Brown House (1786), Nightingale-Brown House (1792), Edward Dexter House (1795) and Thomas P. Ives House (1803), Corliss-Carrington House (1812), Thomas F. Admission to the event is free. As you can imagine, the event is crowded. Personally, it made me feel a little claustrophobic, because there was no organized flow of traffic to walk through the event & look at the vendor tables. (People would pass you by in all directions.) The poster advertises free parking, but when we arrived at 12:15 PM, the lot was already full. Had we known parking would be a problem, we would have taken the T or walked. The lion dance was fun to watch, and I was amused when one of the performers threw candy at the crowd of children gathered in front, making it look like the lion was giving them gifts. This would be a fun event to bring kids to, with a large children's area with lots of games and other fun activities. The food court had about 10 south shore restaurants including Lime Leaf from Weymouth (delicious thai!) & Beni Cafe (sushi). The festival is presented by Quincy Asian Resources and sponsored by South Cove Community Health Center and many other local businesses.

Stunning views of the city and Boston harbor await you here. The Freedom trail inadvertently sent me here after I noticed that I kind of lost the trail. But, what a great mistake it was! I ended up crossing over the Congress street bridge and it led me here. Although it's not as popular as some of Boston's other well known districts, there's actually quite a bit on this side of town. You can find tons of restaurants, shops, museums and several local parks in this area. It's an awesome place to embark on a leisurely city stroll and to take in the views as you wander aimlessly along the clean streets. There's a cute waterfront park that has amazing views of the Boston Tea Party museum the Boston skyline. I can only imagine how stunning Fort Point is at night because it's super stunning during the daytime. The photo ops are endless. Even though this area isn't super popular, it's a nice place to explore when in Boston.

It's not really South Boston but it's not really the Waterfront either. THE GOOD: -The Children's Museum (I haven't been since I was a kid but the changes they've recently made to it look pretty impressive). - Open Studios and various other art exhibits in the Fort Point Artists' Community. - Dogs. Everywhere. There are at least a couple of very dog friendly buildings in this neighborhood. - The Channel (not to be confused with the former nightclub that was before my time). I mean the actual Channel. It's cool to see & smell part of the ocean daily. And there's a nice walking and/or running path. - It's walking distance to South Station and downtown. - Lucky's Lounge (for no other reason than when people have no idea where you live you can say "I live near Lucky's" and they know what you mean. - It's really close to the airport and the pike going West. Equally close to 93 North & South. - St. Alphonzo's Kitchen - the best food in the most low-key atmosphere. - Sagarino's market. This life saver of a market actually makes you happy to spend $5.00 on a gallon of milk. At least you didn't have to drive to a market to get it. - Parking. Since no one knows where it is, and there isn't much here, it's still pretty easy to find street parking. - Walking distance to the Waterfront. - The Achilles Project (I hesitated to put this in because I haven't actually been there yet but I've done a drive-by). And, it made the "new restaurants" Yelp newsletter today. Plus, I know at least one of the owners is a Fort point resident which I like. THE BAD: - The Gillette Factory. It so doesn't belong here. - Traffic on A St. - Congress St. Bridge has been closed for almost 2 years - will it even open again? - There are residential buildings everywhere but there's not a grocery store or coffee shop for miles. - The 7 am construction, even on weekends. - A 24 hour post-office nearby (the one that's always featured on the news where they interview people on the final day you can mail in your taxes) and those mail trucks have to park somewhere. How about a huge lot near my home? - More parking lots. There's a beautiful channel and views of the Boston skyline and it is all surrounded by parking lots. Mostly empty parking lots. - The nearest cup of coffee is a 10 minute walk away. I live here and I'm not leaving anytime soon. So, I'm choosing to believe the hype. This place has a lot of potential. There are a lot of projects in the works right now. This place is really going to be something some day. Yup, I keep telling myself this.

This is another not so famous memorial that Boston has, but should be. It is right off the Freedom…read moreTrail and is a great piece of history. The statues are of three starving figures and three healthy walking figures. This represents the help that Boston sent to the Irish during the famine years and how they accepted them to come live here rather than starving. I really did not know anything at all about this and how much Boston helped during this time. I enjoyed seeing this statues and learning more about history with this surprising memorial right downtown.

Along the Freedom Trail by Washington and School Street is a small plaza with two bronze statues,…read morethe Boston Irish Famine Memorial. One statue depicts a starving Irish family during the Great Famine that took place in Ireland between 1845 to 1852, and the other statue is of a prosperous family that immigrated to America. The statues are by New York sculptor Robert Shure and were unveiled on June 28, 1998. I wouldn't go out of my way to visit the memorial, but the plaza is a nice place to sit down and enjoy the sun. One of the most memorable spots in Boston, this beautiful fountain (which you can run in and play in) has a ton of amazing Chinese sculpture heads (one for each Chinese year animal) which are huge and imposing and will cause you to whip out your camera (or maybe something else). If there were a race between all the great fountains of the US, I think this one would run rings around the others.

Chances are, if you've driven through the suburbs of Boston, you've likely driven through Dover,…read moreprobably without even noticing it. Among one of the smallest towns in eastern MA by land area and population size, it's not hard to miss. Outside of the center of town, you'll find no sidewalks, street lights, traffic signals, or business of any kind. Like most towns in the area, many of the houses and properties are historical in nature, some dating back to the early 1600's. It's a perfect location to go for a run or ride, with lots of great scenery and above average quality roads for the area - I recommend a road map however, as it's easy to become lost if you aren't familiar with the roads. People are generally friendly, some more so then others. Everyone knows everyone else, which, while usually bringing together the community, can easily become problematic (can you say gossip). The school system (having went through it myself as a resident) is one of the best around, and combined with Sherborn for junior and high-school due to class sizes.

The stately Victorian bowfronts lining the Square were completed by 1870 as single family homes. After a significant period of urban decline, a renaissance began over 40 years ago saving the area from the wrecking ball. Today, these homes have been divided into multi-family dwellings representing a diverse cross-section of age, race, and socio-economic status. The Square still functions as a PUBLIC, ornamental space which is open to ALL for concerts, movies, and seasonal celebrations. The residents in conjunction with the Boston Parks Department continue to maintain the beauty of the Square. Unlike Gramercy Park in NYC or the much closer Louisburg Square, residents do not have exclusive rights to the Square. I'm sure that the homes along this street date back to the 18th century and they're quite lovely…read more You'd never see this if you didn't step off the busy Washington Street and here, where the street splits into one-way and goes around this small park in the middle. The park has a beautiful fountain and the most amazing sculpture at the center. The figures look quite Rodin to me. The caption says "The central fountain/artwork was designed and fabricated by artist Gene Cauthen. Worcester Square is part of the South End Landmark District. This Square is maintained by the Worcester Square Neighborhood Association in partnership with the Boston Parks and Recreation Department. 1990."
