Partner was transferred from Mammoth Lakes Hospital in California with life threading Septic Arthritis, requiring daily treatments of intravenous antibiotics. She was told she had to wait 2 to 3 days for approval. We went to Intermountain healthcare where a caring doctor made arrangements for her to receive the health care she needed. If I were in a life or death situation and I had to come to Desert View Hospital for life saving care, I would rather die. This hospital has failed me too many times. First, my doctor wanted me to get a mammogram done because I have had a lump in my breast and my mother passed away from breast cancer. She sent the referral over, I made my appointment, they checked me in and took me back into the room and then told me they don't do mammograms for anyone under 40. I explained to them that I have a lump and multiple women in my family, including my mother, have passed away from breast cancer. They told me to get a mammogram done when I'm in my 50s because my mom got diagnosed in her 60s so I should get checked ten years before that. Okay well I have a lump. And I told them this. They still denied me the mammogram and did an ultrasound where they found the lump. So then I had to go back to my doctor and get another referral for another mammogram, which they finally did. Now I need a biopsy done and they don't do biopsies so I have to go to Vegas. Whatever, it doesn't matter. Last month I had extreme shoulder pain and was losing my vision so I went to the ER. While in the ER, all of a sudden it was like I couldn't understand English and I couldn't speak or think properly. They took me back and told me I was having a panic attack so they gave me atavan (not sure how to spell it) and sent me home. Cool. My shoulder still hurts. So I waited a few days until I started having chest pain and my left arm went numb, and I went back. Thank god for the doctor/nurse, I didn't catch his name but he sounded like he was from New Zealand. He checked out my shoulder and prescribed me pain meds and gave me a sling and now I'm better. How hard was it to do that the first time? The only people in this hospital who are actually good people are the ER check-in lady who has a really deep Southern accent, the doctor previously mentioned, and the lady who did my mammogram. Didn't catch any of their names unfortunately but they all deserve raises and honestly, they could probably run this hospital better than whatever mentally impaired chihuahua runs it now. Everyone else here couldn't care less about your problems. Absolutely horrible treatment here. If you need help, you'd probably be better off taking the gamble and going into Vegas. From what I hear, they end up sending you to Vegas for any slightly serious problem anyway. What a fucking joke. read more

This is literally the worst hospital I've ever been to. Individual employees can be (and were) wonderful if you get lucky but as a functioning whole this place is abysmal. From the ridiculously long wait times even at the ER-to 2 nurses blowing her vein out trying to start an IV- I felt like the quality of care had reached an all time low this time. There are not enough rooms and not enough staff. The entire hallway was packed with patients and my friend waited around 2 1/2 hours in the hallway before she was given any medications for nausea or anything. I understand being busy but you have to be able to help people in a timely and reasonable manner. This is a hospital in a rural area with the next nearest one being almost 70 miles away and it's so unfortunate this is all the people of Pahrump have access to. read more

Went to their ER with severe back pain and was treated for pain and had multiple imaging, CT, MRI. ultrasound, lab work, etc. Was told I had gallstones and sent home. Turns out I have multiple myeloma, a mass in one lung and a spinal compression fracture, and multiple bone lesions on my ribs. The couple of months wasted chasing a complete misdiagnosis may not have saved me but would have made my quality of life much better and probably could have extended my life. I've been suffering from a flare from my condition. Had to be transported by Pahrump Valley FD to Desert View. Staff immediately jumped into action and got me stabilized and diagnosed with a CT scan. They really treated me well, friendly, professional and compassionate. Unfortunately it's a small hospital and the had to have me transported to Spring Valley Hospital in Las Vegas. Things went as well as I could have hoped for in an ER visit. I sincerely hope that my recovery continues and I don't have to visit again EVER. But if I do I'm sure they will take good care of me again. Please keep up the good work. read more

Suffering from acute dehydration following an out of town event of food poisoning and visiting this area, I arrived pretty ill at the ER and from the moment I was first greeted until I left the property hours later, the care, compassion, and treatment I received was all first class. My sincere thanks to Dr. Hall and the entire team who dealt with me. The care was kind, thorough, competent, and no doubt saved my life. From my experience, I'm not sure there is a better ER in the country and my experience a role model for the industry. I visit the Death Valley area quite often and assumed that someday as a 68 year old I might have the need to visit DVH. In 2021 the doctors are Desert View saved my life. I received excellent cars from everyone. Fast forward to February 2024 and minimal procedures are available. The surgery rooms are empty because surgeons don't work there. PET scan. MRI, Neuclear stress tests, stents, delivering babies, and etc are not available. I broke my ankle and someone at DV put a hard cast on my ankle down to the middle of my foot. It was put on wrong according to the doctors in Summerlin Hospital. I was transported to Summerlin and no records were sent with the ambulance with me. The records were requested and to my knowledge, never received. I was discharged without seeing an orthopedic doctor about surgery. I still have a broken ankle. The hard cast was removed and I was given a boot. My ankle is still broken and I wasn't referred to an orthopedic doctor for a 2nd opinion or seen one. Its been 2 months! read more

Every time a staff member attempts to enter the room, they make sure my husband is dressed or covered before entering. He is comfortable with the staff members and answers their questions promptly. The room he is in is well maintained and not hot , and he gets hot in the snow. With their attention, he has remained calm. Wish they would figure out what is wrong and fix him. I am never comfortable in a hospital, but for some strange reason, this place isn't scary. I give most of the staff 100. The care shown toward my husband makes him feel like they really do care. Reason for his visit, he wasn't feeling well, and that was throwing him into panic mode. I won't take a star off this because of a know it all doctor who informed my husband from the first introduction that he had Covid. After finding out that it was not Covid, he never entered the room again. My husband was told by an aid what the problem was. The 5 stars are for the WORKING staff. read more

If you value your health just go to Vegas! My husband has COPD, thinking any hospital would be able to help we foolishly went to Desert Springs. It was late we were tied, doesn't matter, I shouldn't have gone there. 1st night, okay they were nice administered basic course of treatment, and although we clearly stated my husband had COPD they gave him a breathing treatment Asher were went home. Next night, not good. Same Doctor (Flood) was a condescending jerk, He tapped on the pulse oximeter and said I cannot do anything if your pulse ox is in a normal range, (Although previously it was not) he said, "do you want to be admitted so I can monitor you or do you wanna go home? I've never been to a hospital like this one with such terrible outcomes. I actually got up and left without results this time. I went in for a swollen ankle and swollen calf up to my knee. There was no trauma to it, I did not fall. The Dr tended to me acknowledged that I had a tendency for blood clots repeatedly and then ordered x rays on my foot with his thought being planters fauciatist. When the radiology tech showed up she took multiple rays, left the room for 10 mins or so and came back and took about 10 more rays in the same positions, she then left and came back a third time for more x rays. Blaming it on the Dr ordering more films. I finally declined any more trays as she didn't even put the shield over me for any of the ones she did. Another lady came in and asked if she could please take one more film. I allowed it and then asked when they would be checking my d dimer or tropinin levels, maybe an ultrasound to check for blood clots. I was informed that the Dr said he didn't need to check for it and felt it was localized in the foot. I never complained about my foot. I asked to speak the hospital Dr in charge, and they gave me the charge nurse who was trying to be nice and respond, but I asked for the Dr in charge over the entire hospital. I was ignored. So I walked out only they lock their ER doors so somebody can not leave. I was refused discharge papers to sign for a medical release of liability, so I demanded they open the dors so I could leave. I will be reporting this hospital and the entire department for the horrible treatment received each time I have been there. This time, they were polite but refused to focus on the complaint. I am sitting at home, and I guess I will find out if it's a clot by whether I wake up or not in the morning. I'm not playing their games. They are wasting insurance funds testing for unjustified circumstances. It does not take a rocket scientist to know what tests to run when I've been in the hospital for the same thing many times. Stay away from this hospital. They misdiagnosed patients daily. If I wanted to go on a fishing expedition, I would not have gone to the hospital. I would have gone to the river. UGH. If you treasure your life, drive the distance to Las Vegas or even Reno. I'm so disappointed. read more

My son went there on a stat referral from a doctor Intermountain ER because they didn't have an ultrasound machine to check the wound on his leg that he was afraid might be a blood clot. Desert View doesn't accept his insurance, and didn't tell him this until after he had filled out and signed the paperwork, and they had put him in a room. while he was waiting for someone on the ultrasound, someone came in and wanted him to pay over a thousand dollars for what they were doing. He asked why, and how much was his copay there? they then told him they didnt accept his insurance, and they needed him to pay up front, or sign the one more paperr, which was the resposibility for payment paperwork. he told them forget it, he didnt want it done, he would just go home, he felt like he'd been sent into a trap. they told him it didnt matter if he left or not, he would still get billed, because he already did the paperwork, and was set up in the room for the procedure. He told them that was a bunch of bull, and he should have been informed before any of that. They came in and did the ultrasound, he never signed the form, and he gets billed for the stuff, but says he will never pay it, because he feels it was entrapment. had he known his insurance didn't cover there, he would have gone elsewhere, it wasn't urgent! why did that doctor at intermountain send him there? And it turned out it was just a deep bruise! They don't care about people, only $$$ My husband had a colonoscopy at Desert View back in Jan, His doctors that referred him there, and have made requests multiple time for the results, have never gotten them. I have been here many many times for tests and wound care as well as the ER. Everytime I've been here for tests everyone had been very.nice and they make you feel comfortable. They did just change owners of the hospital not long ago I think owned by the Vegas hospitals. The ER Dr saved my life last year and had me air lifted back to Vegas. He was amazing the couple of times I have been to the ER there, being a small hospital they are limited to what they can do. I am sure that will change as time goes by. Since being here so many times I did not want to do reviews for separate times but as a over all place. I don't see why there was some bad reviews because I recommend going there especially for wound care. The wound care Dept did an amazing job on me which I had to go almost daily to a few times a week. They have a very caring staff there! read more

I ended up spending the night and having several tests and I have to say all the medical folks there were very professional and compassionate. Drive on to Vegas... Your health is your life and it's not worth risking it at this hospital. As a 5 year experienced ER nurse and knowing the in's and out's of this hospital, I highly recommend you drive on to Vegas or anywhere else for healthcare or employment. This place has very poor management. Poor equipment and is severely lacking in experienced staff. Current employee satisfaction is extremely low and thus there is a high turn over rate and the majority of nursing staff are new grad nurses under contract, who are wonderful people but have almost nonexistent experienced nurses around to help them provide safe nursing care. Daily ratios of 5 to 1, which is extremely overwhelming on any nurse, especially new nurses. There are so many makeshift treatment areas just to pack the cattle in the shoots... This company takes it's pound of flesh from staff and minimally reinvests back into the hospital or staff. They have truly forgotten that they have taken on the responsibility and charge of caring for people..... The current director of nurses (who has minimal qualifications for her position and gained her position primarily because she was a friend of management) has mandated 4th 12 hour shift for nursing and ancillary staff without any incentives or appreciation creating tired nurses which affects patient care. She will call off staff during low census times but require them to remain "on call" without on call pay for when the census picks up and she calls them back in, purely just using people. She flexes staff off to keep ratios at 5/1 verses maintain a safe staffing level to improve patient care and employee satisfaction. She will change shifts and mandate day shift staff to work night shift or night shift to work day shift or mid shifts. She floats ER staff to med/surg or OR and those staff to other units as well which further decreases employee satisfaction, not to mention all of which affects patient care, deeply. PTO has been refused on several occasions based on this hospitals lack of ability to maintain enough staff to provide the basic needs for employees to have any sort of work life balance. Then when you have finally had enough and appropriately and professionally find a new job, give your two week notice and resign, this hospital finds any possible way to not pay out your hard earned PTO that was even hard to try to use while working there. This is a very poor place to work and I recommend working anywhere else and even commuting to Las Vegas and as far as going to this hospital for medical care, I wouldn't bring my mother here and I would never recommend you to either...Drive on to Vegas.... read more

[This review is from March 14, 2023. No one had cared to reach out and my opinion still very much stands].If I could give this place zero or negative stars, I would. To start off, I arrived by 7pm tonight and at 11:06pm I have still yet to be seen(claimed I hadn't checked in till two hours later but I have receipts to prove otherwise which goes to show they disregarded my chart from the start). One other person arrived before me and he was never taken back either. Asked for the supervisor and a rude older lady came to speak to us. She pointed her finger in my mothers face as if to scold her as well as she told me that "everyone thinks they are worse than others" and after expressing why we were understandably upset she stated that we were welcome to stay or go and walked off. Never once did I say I was more important but to consistently be skipped over, I simply don't agree with that. People come to the hospital because they are obviously feeling unwell and without proper testing or consultation how would you know whether we are less important or not? I had my one year old child at home waiting for me with his grandfather for eight hours because this place couldn't care less about helping me. I'm not exagerrating...EIGHT hours, I could have worked a full shift with how long it took me to be treated here. If you are debating coming here or taking the drive to Vegas, let me point you in the right direction, go to Southern Hills in Las Vegas. Prompt, polite and ultimately give a shit about their customers. Trust me, even with a 40 minute drive you'd get in quicker there. I would only recommend this place if you needed a place to stay overnight or if it's a life or death situation because you'll be in the lobby most of your day/night. read more

My neighbor was rushed to the "hospital" after collapsing and was diagnosed as "dehydrated" -- Later on that day, after returning home, she had a second strike. I give them one star only because you can't rate them lower than that. You can already see from their very low rating that everyone else has given them, that this is not the hospital to go to. You are much better off driving to Las Vegas and going to a hospital there unless you are critical. No one in management cares their either or they would start doing something to make the hospital better. I went there with a 6MM kidney stone, I know because they did a CT Scan on me. If you know anything about kidney stones you know how big and painful that is. Even an IV Morphine did not get the pain to go away, it did help, but still very painful. The doctor there gave me a written script for 12 pain pills. I explained knowing they already know, you can NOT fill a prescription in the state of Nevada for controlled substance with a written script. In fact it is against the law for them to even try. They gave me a written prescription for 12 pills anyway. My wife took the script to Walgreens the next morning as this happened at 01:00 in the morning. Sure enough they refused to fill the prescription. It took all day to finally get an electronic prescription. She finally got me pain medications a 3:00 PM that afternoon. To make it even worse the Doctor during the day time thought he should only give me 8 pills not 12. I went all day without any pain medication with a 6MM kidney stone and they could care less. My wife called to complain at the hospital and was told that the doctors can do whatever they want!!! Because they do not work directly for the hospital. The Hospital Administrator does not care either. I would never go back there, unless it was life critical, then I would be very worried about surviving there. DO NOT GO THERE UNLESS YOU ARE CRITICAL, if NOT critical find another solution!!! We need a Hospital that cares in a small town and we don't have one. read more

Went to the ER late on a Sunday night. I walk in and the first person to greet me was a totally jerk. i Will have to say the doc was very polite and the nurse was awesome. But old saying is first impression. The floor in the room I was placed need a cleaning. There was a spot of blood on the floor. And looked like had not been swept. I didn't have insurance and they sent someone to ask for 100 or 200 cash payment. I think thats so unprofessional. So I would not recommend it unless there's no other option. read more

After staying in their funky hospital for 3 days I left went to a different hospital and had back surgery 2 Days Later. I went to the Emergency Room at Desert View Hospital in Pahrump, Nevada on Friday, February 18. I fell and fractured the humorous bone located on my upper left arm. Needless to say, I was in excruciating pain and needed immediate medical attention. Dr. Michael Blum treated me immediately. He was very professional, knowledgeable and caring. Nurse Cassandra, who assisted the Doctor, was very attentive and efficient. Staff members Becky, Bonnie and Aonao were also very helpful. Everyone worked together well and had positive attitudes which is rare in this day and age. I would like to commend this great team for a job well done! read more

Based on my good experience at DVH ER i'm surprised by all the negative comments. I found the staff competent, compassionate, and helpful. I arrived at 8:45 am (first one in) and was seen within 15 mins. I was shown to the intake room where Laura took my medical history. She was very pleasant. Then they put me in their "fast track" room where i was cared for by nurse Sergio and nurse Jeff who were both attentive and knowledgeable. Doctor Watson came in and i explained my reason for being there. He setup a series of labs and scans. It took a total of 5 hours but when the results were in he ordered some meds that helped me almost immediately. The thing to understand about this small community hospital is that they diagnose and treat if they can or refer if they cannot. They don't have specialists on staff. It's not Grey-Sloan but I think the community is lucky to have this facility for emergencies like i had. Many commenters complained about rudeness. Keep in mind that you get back what you put out there. I put out kindness and appreciation for the job they were doing and in return i got compassion and great service. When you are not feeling well it's easy to be grouchy so ask yourself what part your attitude played in their reactions to you. Thank you DVH. I'm feeling much better today thanks to you. read more

Desert View Hospital helped me out with a Z-pack for my bronchitis/cold/flu or whatever I had but... WOW, if your a VET do not go there unless it's life or death! The local VA facility in Pahrump, NV will not cover any costs you incur whether you have a VETS Choice Card or not, The VA will have you transported to Las Vegas either by road - a 45 minute drive, or by helo if your really bad off which is great but WOW, what a bill for a Z-pack!. I sure hope the VA in Las Vegas will help me out with this. The VA has always been great so far. WHEW! read more

WOW!!! If you have any choice in the matter of using any different medical facility other than this one TAKE IT!!! I will drive an hour to Vegas with a broken limb and my head split open before I try using the services provided at Desert View Hospital ever again!!! My very first trip there I spent a few hours to be discharged with the wrong medications prescribed by the dr.. had to go back that night because no medications were filled or given due to Dr.'s mistakes... Spent 12 hrs there to finally get the right prescriptions... Then!! My third trip was on 11-17-17.. this was by far the very worst experience I've ever had in any hospital! EVER! I repeat! DO NOT USE THIS HOSPITAL EVER!!!! There's a blonde female Dr in the ER is very helpful. However, every other Dr And nurse is garbage. I was having an asthma attack and needed a breathing treatment ASAP! It took them 30 mins to finally get one hooked up to me... while many nurses just chit chatted in the hall right in front of me just ignoring the one nurse that was some what helping me.. then once they finally got it hooked up, the oxygen tubes combined with the breathing treatment mask was making me very claustrophobic and I tried pulling the oxygen tubes out of my nose, but a nurse stopped me and told me if I didn't calm down they were going to shove a tube down my throats and fly me to Vegas, so she suggested I calmed down "OR ELSE!!!" One of the garbage ass nurses by the name of "Flip" threatened to call the police on me because I had a vaporizer in my pocket that had fallen out onto the bed and was laying next to me.. I had not smoked or even turned it on. (not to mention this was a nicotine vape not a marijuana vaporizer) yet for some reason he decide to confiscate it from me and hold it until I was ready to leave the hospital.. AGAIN I repeat I DID NOT SMOKE or TURN ON my Vaping device. Yet because it was laying beside me on my bed next to my phone, inhaler, and wallet that had also fallen out of my pocket that means I was for sure 100% using it while being in the hospital for asthma related problems.. I thought it was really polite and kind for him to threaten calling the police on a patient who did nothing wrong.. he went to get another nurse to take my vape from me and when I told her the story she said ok and told me to put it away. FLIP! They treat patients like children or prisoners... then they disrespect any guests you might have visit you as well... Doctors got pissed because I would not stay. That place sucks. They made me lay in my own shit for 36 hours with out a shower and when I did get a shower it was cold water. (They are saving by not heating it.) They did have attachments in the shower that I could clean myself with but they removed them. So I had to lay in my own shit for 30 + hours. The food is all GMO and Roundup contaminated and the cheapest they can get away with. They didn't give me dinner at 5 o-clock so I left at 8. They are so under staffed it is dangerous. It can be hard to even get a cup of coffee. The TV is so far away I can't see it and all they have is free commercial channels.​ I went in at 2 but didn't get a bed until 6 hours later. The doctors I had, treated you like cattle.​ They tried to give me antibiotics when I had no infections of any kind. ( That is bad._) They refused to give me the 12 hour fasting blood test. They refused to give me the prescriptions I need for congestive heart failure. No wonder doctors kill so many people. They know nothing about the supplements and vitamins you take and would not even look at them. These "Big Pharma" trained doctors are really stupid. They think they are Gods but they are just robots. My husband was there Wednesday,they sent him home Thursday, he didn't even see a doctor, but they kept him overnight, and told him to make an appointment with his cardiologist. if a doctor read his tests, I don't want them billing the insurance for his services. read more
