Desi Chowrastha is a Grocery store with Restaurant for casual sit down or to go. The online menu is massive with different sections for different type of Food. If you are new to Indian food a great place to start is Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala. As you start to understand the flavor profiles you interests will grow. If you have questions you can use AI to look up what the dishes might look like and flavor profiles. Another great option is to find a friend who enjoys Indian food and they help with flavor profiles. The ready made food they keep a series of finger food, naan ( flat bread) and specialty items. Then they have a separate cabinet for cakes and sweets. I would stress to be conscious of your spice levels. My preference is hot and I enjoy the heat. When trying new Indian dishes I get mild because they blend the spices and it can seem spicer. Yogurt and naan bread can help with this. Right now, we are working our way through this massive menu trying to find that dish that calls out to us. It's a darn tasty process. Chicken Dum Biryani (Medium, $16.99) - The rice was perfectly fragrant and cooked, layered with tender chicken and spicy sauce. Chicken Tikka Masala (Medium, $14.99) - Served with rice and Tandoor Roti, the sauce was creamy, balanced, and very aromatic, complementing the grilled chicken. Chettinad Chicken Curry (Medium, $14.99) - This dish packed a punch with authentic South Indian spices, paired with rice and warm Tandoor Roti. Bold, aromatic, and very satisfying. Pickup experience: this business is very busy, and expect crowds. This is a social event as much as a meal. The pickup was smooth and convenient. The order was ready on time, and all items were packaged appropriately. Desi Chowrastha offers a reliable, authentic Indian experience in Northlake. Food: 5 out of 5. Staff: 5 out of 5. Visited Desi Chowrastha in Argyle with some friends. It's a unique spot--a grocery store and restaurant combo--but it was definitely crowded when we arrived. My friends ordered the onion samosas, chicken 65, punugulu, and onion pakora, and while their food came out surprisingly fast, the tea service was a different story. I ordered the Irani Chai, which was decent and tasted very similar to what you'd find in the Dallas area. However, the service for the tea was super slow. We, along with several other customers, had to wait in line for over 10 minutes before the staff even noticed us. It's a nice spot for a quick snack, but they definitely need to improve the flow at the tea counter! read more

Nasty. Bought a bag of rice and it had maggot/ moth larvae and infested my pantry. The health department needs to investigate.

I love this place. The dhaba style chicken or mutton is too good. We live in seattle and every time we visit family in Argyle, we often eat at this place. The chai is solid, the egg bhurgi is yummy. I feel like people in this area as spoilt and don't appreciate how tasty the food is here. The food is authentic , maybe at time oily but yolo man. I live close by and love utilizing the grocery store, I always find fresh produce and spices. I have ordered takeout many times, but lately the food I have ordered isn't what it has been in the past. I always order mixed vegetable curry. The last times all I get are potatoes in my "mixed vegetables ". This is meal number 3 and Very disappointing. Not sure if I'll go back, I don't mind a few pieces, but all large chunks and little bits of something isn't a good curry. The naan was not very fresh, it was very dry like a cracker. I wanted this experience to be good! It hurts to write this! I arrived at 1 pm knowing it was going to be busy by the parking lot. I had been driving past this location for months and really wanted to try it. The grocery store part of the building was backed but the restaurant side had a few tables with people eating and no one at the counter. I saw the digital boards with all the items on them, but there was no description and as a novice to Indian food, I was hoping there would be a paper menu or the staff would be helpful. There was no paper according to the woman marking behind the counter, so I asked her for recommendations that were not butter chicken as that is something I've had in the past and enjoyed, but I really want to try something new, I'm not sure if there was a communication barrier or if she was not interested in helping me but she just kept telling me to order the butter chicken. As I was on my lunch break I agreed because I wasn't getting anywhere and I honestly didn't recognize any of the names on the menu, I also ordered these warm pastries. They had in the case that were filled with chickpeas and vegetables. I got everything to go and was told it would be 15 to 20 minutes this was no problem and I went to wander the store. The store had an amazing selection of all kinds of foods I recognize and did not recognize. There was a very helpful girl working that helped me pick out some sweets as well as some snacks to try. There's only one cashier so it took a while to check out, which again wasn't a problem because I was waiting on my food. return to the restaurant and waited. Finally, after 30 minutes, my food was ready and it smelled delicious and I headed home. Once I got home and dished everything out. I realize I had three pieces of chicken in the butter chicken, which is really disappointing. Because they were small and not even bite-size. The sauce however, was delicious as was the rice. I really enjoyed the chickpea pastries. For the price I paid it wasn't worth three tiny little pieces of chicken however tasty everything else was. I also did not appreciate the staff unwillingness to help or at least answer basic questions. I'm not sure if I'll return to this location as I felt extremely unwelcome. read more

For lunch, we ordered Palak Paneer and Butter chicken. Unfortunately, the Palak paneer was not tasty, and the Butter chicken had very few chicken pieces. Very disappointing ! read more
