The tags, my task, were just good fun. Lots of room to be creative and simple to complete without assistance. The passport covers were another story. The other 2 needed assistance a lot, especially during the stitching, which took quite a bit of time and was a tad hard on their hands. The employees were more than willing to provide the assistance they needed though. There were definitely a couple other crafts I would've enjoyed trying. Ellie was there all along the way supporting us and guiding us. Her kits are amazing, everything is precut, all the hardware and tools are there. That allows us to focus on the fun of being creative sewers/bag makers. Ellie is a great teacher, she gives all the tools and resources to be successful. I connected with Klum House through Design Week Portland. I've never used a sewing machine, so "no…read moreexperience required" appealed to me. I made the dopp kit over about 2 hours. For that class, the machine is set up and no troubleshooting is required. The fabric is already cut to the pattern. This project is ideal for beginners; all my substandard seams were hidden! The owner-instructor has whole series of short project classes to make useful everyday things - bags and backpacks. You don't have to go deep into patterns or fabric, zippers, snaps, rivets, leather and other hardware, all that is included, in a range of a few colors you select. The projects include some specialty fabrics, like sustainable waxed canvas that are hard to source. Some of their other classes cover more challenging material to sew, like leather, and even a Pendleton panel. The most important part of my experience and this review is that the owner-instructor is patient and a great teacher. The owner-instructor perceives individual learning styles and adapts to each student. Her business model is brilliant. The classes are on the boss Singer 4423, which is an affordable machine to set up at home, continuing your adventures. For your own sewing adventure, Klum House has supply kits of useful sewing gadgets you used in class to purchase and take home. Best of all, after a Klum House project, "I made that" is a beautiful thing to say to individuals asking questions about your project, close around you, friends, and admirers on the street!

My work recently gave us a budget to indulge in a hobby in, and knowing my brother had a birthday coming up, immediately said "BEDAZZLER" Who knew that bedazzlers do not affix to thermoses on their own? Who knew that you need 'Rhinestone Glue' to get them to affix? That said, off I went to Michael's where after some searching to find it (it's tucked past where the Toys r Us used be in Jantzen Beach) I was richly rewarded. The people there are incredibly nice, the selection is HUGE, and the person I spoked to in the glue section taught me more about glue than I ever knew was possible. As a bonus, I also picked up a new exercise stick while I was the for like 5 bucks! (4 ft dowel 3/4 inch). I would have not known - as I am not a thief, I am not thinking of that. I decided my bladder would not handle the shopping so I grabbed a basket so I could start shopping after since i needed glue which was right there at the back wall. Restroom clearly marked so off I went. Big signs with the 'restroom for customer only' and to find an associate to let you in... and the walk made the urgency a bit more but thankfully I could hear someone working in the framing area right there so I did the hello and can I trouble you for the code. Urgency growing as she fumbled the code over and over. Places apparently don't give the secret code out now and have to supervise you using the bathroom since, apparently, people memorize the code and give it out. THIS is where we are folks. Thankfully shopping was much easier than it was to use to restroom and I managed not to have an adult accident. The cashier was friendly and they had the super goopy glue I needed to get - they have a GLUE AISLE... so if you need to stick a thing to another thing, they got you. I managed to sneak past the Halloween stuff and BELIEVE ME, that's rough...I want it all! Then I went to the parking lot and was like WHOA What in the Actual F... because, you know that blinking blue like solar panel things you see in every parking lot now? IT SPOKE TO ME.... BELOWING at me ...VERY LOUD in an empty parking lot something about being a Micheal's customer and that they WERE FILMING ME... Ummm... WHAT??? I got in my car, after taking a picture - you got me and I got you creeper!! That was just waaaaaaay Xtra... It was 930am on a freaking Tuesday and I was the only customer - oh wait, I saw a husband and wife getting a game for their toddler.... I felt like maybe I missed the prison riot. So, I appreciate stores protecting themselves but the message I got is that I am lucky I missed getting stabbed by the unhinged people who also shoplift there while buying glue. Maybe order glue online next time.
