We just finished the class and had a lot of fun! We learned a ton and had a lot of great hands on experience. I would recommend it to anyone. It was four classes and each one builds on the other so make sure you can attend all 4. We were going to do the class a different month but would have been away a week but after talking to the owner and reading about the class we decided to do a month we would be there for all 4 classes and I'm glad we did otherwise we would have missed out on a lot. First, I'll say that our teacher was a great person and was very engaged, knowledgeable, patient and friendly. My wife purchased us a beginning pottery class for me for Christmas. When she booked the class, she mentioned that we would have to miss a class because we were going to be out of town and was told that it wouldn't be a problem. We came to the first class, and had a great time, but the instructor told us that we would be using the pots we created in the first class to practice trimming them in the second class. The whole process involves letting the pots set for a few days after they are turned. If they don't set long enough, bad things happen, if they set too long, bad things happen. This posed a problem for us, as the next class was the one we were going to miss. It turns out that this would throw off the whole rest of the class, precluding us from participating. Further, each class seems to depend on the previous classes in a way that we had no way of anticipating, as we don't know anything about pottery (ergo the "Beginners Pottery" class.) The instructor kindly suggested that we could come in during the week during open studio hours to do the things we needed to do, but we live out in south east, and with kids, work, and other obligations, that wasn't going to be possible. My wife attempted to contact the owner to see if we could arrange crediting the remaining classes that we were unable to take because we were given bad information when she signed up. She replied that she doesn't give refunds, but that if my wife wanted to speak with her about it, she could hop in her car and drive out to the far end of North Portland to do it, rather than talk on the phone, or through email, like the rest of the world. It would have been better for them to tell us that the class wouldn't work for us, rather than to take our money, and then tell us we are SOL when things did not work how we were told they would. This was, again, my birthday present. Thanks for nothing. Hopefully the money offsets the poor review for you. read more

When I moved to the area last year I started looking for a studio to work on ceramics. I took a hand building class here and learned a lot from the instructor, Berdine. My partner took a wheel throwing class and we started coming here regularly and are now members. It's got space to work, has a friendly atmosphere and everyone's really helpful! I'm currently taking their Saturday Figure Sculpture class also with Berdine as the instructor. The class fee covers multiple sessions with a live model and the class size is very small, just four of us, so we get lots of individual attention. Berdine is very good at working with you to bring out your strengths and also pin down what you really need to improve on the most, all with a genuinely positive attitude that never makes you feel intimidated or inadequate. As a fairly inexperienced ceramicist, I feel like Berdine gives the perfect amount of guidance - just when you need it but not too much so you never feel like you're creatively stifled. It's such a blast and the Saturday class has honestly become the best part of my week. read more

Really fun experience here, the facilitator gave great directions, excellent supplies, a super fun experience! The only downside is it's kind of tucked away in a weird spot. Little hard to find, but worth it! read more
