The store is nice enough, the designs they carry are (mostly) great, and the staff is friendly BUT... DWR sells at list prices and severely limits color and/or fabric selection (often to only two choices). We own several pieces carried by DWR but have always managed to find a better price somewhere else and still get great service. Wait for sales, beg them for discounts, shop on-line, and/or go someplace else for more color choices. read more

DWR has an incredible selection of mid-century and modern furniture. I came in initially in search of a new office chair and the staff patiently walked me through the entire selection to find one that was the best look and fit for me. I never would have guessed there could be so many adjustment options, so it was incredibly helpful to have someone there to show me the full functionality of the chairs. When it came to finalizing color and material preferences, they gave good insight into how different materials would hold up over time. As others here have mentioned, it is expensive, but these are pieces that you can own for decades - both in terms of the construction and the design. We're remodeling our living room next and this will be my first and likely last stop in furniture shopping! read more

I highly recommend against purchasing items from Design Within Reach. I purchased a wool sofa from the store in 2013. Less than three years later, the sofa, which has been in my living room and not often used, has developed a small thin spot in the fabric. I contacted the store and asked for some type of remedy, given that I spent about $5,000 on the item. After talking back and forth with the store's manager for three months, I was told that Design Within Reach would not honor any type of warranty and considered the thin spot normal wear and tear. Needless to say, I was not pleased with their decision considering the amount of money I spent on the sofa. In my opinion, Design Within Reach sells fashionable items of limited, suspect quality. I believe my purchase was a serious mistake. There are many stores that sell fashionable furniture with a limited life span that are much less expensive than Design Within Reach. read more

one word sums this store up: pretentious. I'm going to set aside the fact that the furniture here is 4x as much as anyone should pay for it. Every time i walk in here, i don't feel welcome or wanted. i dont so much as get a 'hello' and the desk/counter is far away from the front. it's confusing. oh, they dont let you use the bathroom either. read more

My first shopping experience here will be my last! I love their stuff but it's really expensive. We bought a dining room table, bench and chairs in January of 2012. I am STILL waiting for the bench. I was told everything would be delivered in 2-3 weeks. Well we are going on 7 months now and they still can't even give me a delivery date for the bench. I asked if I could return the table and chairs since I'm really tired of waiting for the set to be complete and I was told I'm past my return date. I am extremely frustrated with this store right now and will definitely not be shopping there again. read more

What exactly do they mean by "within reach"?!!! Except that you can actually "reach" and touch the floor models, there is nothing "within reach" about their prices. I understand that these are premium brands made in low volume, but I can find the same items at much lower prices elsewhere. Service leaves much to be desired too. read more

I, for the first time in my adult life, am outfitting my house with nice furniture. It has been work in progress and continues to be. I completed my living and dining areas a few years ago and then turned my focus to my bedroom. Last year I bought a bed and a nice mattress. This year was to be everything else. I did my research and had things earmarked to purchase from various places BUT I started my search at DWR. It was my first visit to their new showroom. The new showroom is awesome. I was greeted by several sales people however all gave me space to walk around and do my own thing. Then one woman asked if she could help me. And so it started. It was so much fun. There was no pressure to purchase anything. When I said what I was considering she showed me everything she had in that type of thing. I ended up buying all of my bedroom furniture that day - from DWR. I ended up with a different look than what I went in with and what is amazing is that it will actually compliment my other furniture in my other rooms - creating an amazing flow. It was a few weeks before the bedroom sale was to begin however the woman who was helping me worked with her manager to get me the discounts! I then began waiting for my furniture delivery and wasn't sure of how the tracking worked. I reached out to the email attached to the delivery confirmation and once again - was greeted by a person with the utmost in customer service. Next week my furniture arrives. I am getting the white glove treatment! I cannot wait. I know I will be greeted with people who embody this same wonderful customer service philosophy. I feel so well taken care. They get only 1-star for poor handling of a messed up order. I ordered 4 Globus chairs from them after checking them out in the store. When I received my shipment, it came in two separate boxes. The boxes contained chairs with two different finishes. I phoned the store to complain and they made me bring in two chairs to show them how they were different. Apparently, the employees of this store were not aware that the company had changed to a new finish. They sent me 4 new chairs in the original finish, but 1 of the chairs was damaged. Then they sent me another replacement chair with the wrong finish! Finally, they told me another customer had the same problem with two different finishes and they had one chair with the right finish in the store that I could come by to pick up. Throughout this whole ordeal, they never offered any discount to compensate for the trouble of fulfilling the order. I complained to the Corporate Customer Service and then I received a call from the manager of the store, Adam, offering me a shipping credit for a future order. I asked for a refund of the shipping costs ($89 or so) as I don't plan on any future orders and I had to go to the store twice to pick up and return items. He reluctantly agreed and was generally unpleasant after that. I have had mistakes happen with my furniture orders with other companies in the past (Room and Board, SmartFurniture.com) and they went out of their way to make up for the inconvenience. This Design Within Reach store made me ask for a shipping refund after a long drawn out ordeal to get 6 chairs of the same finish. read more

I purchased a Saarinen table with a marble top. The table was delivered and I use it as desk, so it is in the corner of the room and I primarily use one side. After cleaning and moving the table we rotated it in the move and I saw to my horror that the table had been a big piece that was chipped, reglued and polished so that when feeling it you would notice. You would not even notice it with the variations in the marble unless you looked it at it closely. You can clearly see the break underneath the table, however. Upon contacting the Greenwich CT store, they sent someone to look at it, but after that I got no response and they just ignored me. This was a $3300 table. I would never buy anything from them again. My sense is the delivery company who seemed overly attentive/nervous on delivery, had broken the table in the warehouse and mended the top. But I still think DWR should have stood by their product and customer. Check your goods very carefully upon delivery from SWR. This has never happened to me before in buying furniture. read more
