Watson Kennedy Fine Living is a very specific type of gift shop - it's lotion and candle focused, organized by color and extremely scented. The strength of the scent is frankly overwhelming to the point it's unpleasant to browse and the shop could do with an air purifier if it's simply the byproduct of the items carried. The service was friendly but I couldn't stay in the shop for long and the scent lingered on my clothes for about ten minutes. Those with sensitivities likely won't do well, but for those who like strongly secreted spaces, Watson Kennedy is your store. read more

I love this store and have been here before but the lady working here yesterday was so rude. She couldn't have made us feel less welcome. I asked her about the fragrances and she said that wasn't their specialty but then it actually it is because they have other sense around the store like candles and lotions. I would give the store five stars because they have so many cute little knickknacks and beautiful cards and memorabilia of Seattle and it's located next to the inn at the market hotel next-door to Sushi Kashiba which is amazing. read more

We only found out about this place after my wife was thumbing through a book in our hotel room. It was a book on home Decour and different ideas as to how to make your house more cute....Needless to say the cute factor of our house has never been at the top of my mind, but it's nice to make sure the place is welcoming. Luckily for us, this place was sitting just outside the hotel! On entering, you're swept into a world where candles and fancy tea are currency, where rustic scissors and decorative cards dot the landscape and where dreams are filled with and made designer soap, and honey tobacco scented lotion! Everything here trends toward pretentious, but it's not quite over the top. We ended up finding a couple things that were fun, including a blue tea that we had never seen,As well as the aforementioned the honey tobacco lotion. It's not a flavor combination that I had ever thought of, but it definitely worked well. Everything here is on the expensive side, but so much so that you don't want to go in and look. It's worth a gander and you'll probably find something to help make your home super cuter! read more

You'll find vintage and new trinkets, some imported, including fancy ribbons, old alphabet letters, vintage keys, vintage game pieces, etc. Some of the unique items are picked up during the owner's travels. There are various tables and shelves with items (soaps, notebooks, gift tags, candles, greeting cards, perfume, lotions, etched drinking glasses, candy, coasters, pajamas, linens, patterned file folders, books) organized by color. One table has items from the UK and France. Earrings are feminine and petite. This would be the perfect place to pick up a hostess gift or something thoughtful, like Diptyque candle or Mariage Freres tea. As I wandered around admiring the inventory, I kept encountering items I'd purchased in the past. I hadn't seen E. Coudray lotion in many years...forgot it existed till I saw it here. I love the layout of this store and how things are curated in a color coordinated way: it's a pleasant experience. Also I enjoy the shop keeper here: she was very welcoming even though it was a simple hello. She let customers browse freely without pestering them, but always welcoming each guest in the door. My mother came to visit and wanted to buy some souvenirs, I decided to take her there and it was the worst mistake. The way the employees/owners (not really sure who they were) kept checking and looking our way as if we were going to steal something. They even decided to go "fix/rearrange" the items near us. They could been less obvious, they made us really uncomfortable. Many other customers came inside and they weren't treated the same way. After paying our items my mother bump into something, she tried to fix it and she was told "leave it, I'll fix it, you get out." Next time I'll take my business somewhere else. An undeniably cool store, though it looks a little more exciting from the window than it does once you're inside walking around. I think it's because at Watson Kennedy, the whole is more enticing than the sum of its parts. This place is Capital E Expensive! We are hunting for little decorative touches for our wedding reception, and found a number of things that were perfect... and just stupid expensive. $2 a piece for letters and numbers from vintage board games like scrabble and bingo sets. We bought them, but we grumbled first. There were a ton of other things that we'd have loved to have bought, but just couldn't justify the expense. This is the place to go if you want to find: maps (vintage and reproductions), books on doghouses designed by famous architects, decorative lobster traps, ribbon, exotic soaps, and more. It's certainly fun to browse, and if you have a high limit credit card, it'd be a fun place to blow your child's college fund. read more

Let me first start by saying that this store is beautiful. Ted Watson clearly has a great design sense. But I see many items for 10% less at other nearby stores. Fine. But MY GAWD are they snooty! Ted finds it physically painful to make eye contact with his customers, and even when you're plopping down your credit card, he acts as though he's too busy to be bothered with you. He is simply annoyed by any questions you may have. I've had this happen 3 times in a row, and so now I'm done. I won't be back. Ever. My better half sent me there on a mission: to get Mariage Freres tea, which is expensive to get outside of France. Watson & Kennedy had it, so - to quote Dubya - "mission accomplished." I was sweaty and in a hurry, so I didn't poke around too much more of the store. Pleasant atmosphere, and tucked-away. But back to the Mariage Freres. They only had the canisters, not the boxes of teabags, but that's OK. One canister's $23 - which is pretty reasonable, considering how good the tea is, and how much of it you get. He then proceeded to say "Maybe you should buy something, then you can read it." We put all of our items down and walked out of the store. This IS fine living. It sells things to make your home smell and looks beautiful: soaps, candles, chandeliers... A great place to buy a gift for a friend or hand-soap for a house guest. Ok, I wanted to buy everything (or 90%) of the store, provided I had access to that trust fund that I just don't seem to have been bequeathed. *Sigh* Gorgeous, thoughtful displays. I was disappointed by amount of brands I have seen all over the US (fresh, molton brown, diptique, pine cone hill, lollia, etc) but found others to be charmingly new and delicious-- esp the UK and Italian brands of body products. The salesperson was very pleasant, offered suggestions on other local stores, and was genuinely nice to my husband and me. Would def rec'd they focus on more artisanal brands u just can't find elsewhere and include lower price point items (maybe travel size of the luxury brands). It's like a little corner of heaven. I feel like I've fallen in love when I walk in the door. It smells good and it feels like you've walked into another world. You could spend an hour and hundreds of dollars in here if you let yourself. SO many lovely things: cards, soaps, jewellery, trinkets, books, decorative do-hickeys. I've visited both the 1st Street and Pike Place locations. There are so many awesome and unique items, I don't even know where to start looking. Yes, they are pricey but still worth it. I received a gift certificate for Christmas last year and placed my order by phone. The woman (Pam, I think her name is) who answered and took my order was very helpful and even described several items to me (which isn't easy to do on the phone). Watson Kennedy (Home Store) Watson Kennedy picks up where shabby chic and Martha Stuart left from in the mid nineties. The displays/assemblage installations are pleasant many using bits of borrowed nostalgia from the last 70 years, or natures gifts. The store is staged and grouped by theme, for instance a bird area,which includes ceramic robins eggs for a low $5 and fab contemporary european style bird napkins for $7. They also feature a ocean themed bath area that in includes the common bath soap pre du provance. All of this looks grand but you half to keep a shrewed eye on the quality and the sourced over availability of some things. For instance I have a set of 70's amber glass water goblets I once bought for $1 per at a charity shop. I've seen these common low quality glass's several times all for low prices. Even the pricers and customers of goodwill can see that they are dull pressed glass. These same glasses can be yours for $25 per glass. How insulting to anyone with one drop of attention to detail and taste. Also, I saw an artist book at double the retail price. 80's cheeky metal european tourist key chains for $25. If they are trying to market their store as a life style Messiah they better re think their quality to pricing and up their cultural relevance. I equate Watson kennedy to a geriatric barneys, who's fleecing suckers at a garage sale. Over all I really wanna like this store...but...my gut is shouting at my common since...leave! read more

When I visited for my first time, it was their holiday open house and they offered us complimentary Tangerine Mimosas and Trophy baby cupcakes. Both were deeeelish. There are so many lovely gifts at this store, I just wanted to spend all my money on super fabulous presents for friends. They have an impressive selection of glass wear & cocktails makings, cheese plates, candles, soap & tea. I loved their themed sections for Italy, France & England. They have so much lovely, handcrafted jewelry in their cases. This place truly has a great selection of unique gifts and housewares. The Watson Kennedy stores are Seattle treasures. These are the kind of stores that add vibrancy and warmth to the downtown area. Every detail is carefully attended to here including displays, customer service, atmosphere, and product selection. It's almost like entering another world when you walk in the door-- a world where everything smells better, tastes better, looks better, sounds better. I like to stop in when I have a rare day off to wander around downtown. They always have lots of books, good-smelling soaps and lotions, and other interesting things. What I love, love, love this store for though is gifts. They have a great selection of unique things that are difficult to find anywhere else, so they feel more special. This store is very pretty and carries all sorts of great stuff in one location. It is the best place to buy a gift for someone. It is very reminiscent of a cute boutique in Paris. It's small but thoughtfully laid out and has something for everyone, it's not just candles. The staff has always been friendly when I have gone in and I just recently bought some nice candles for my mother in law there and the lady wrapped them for me. It was perfect all I had to do was pop it in a box and ship it. The price point is the same as anywhere else pretty much for the same stuff. This just may be my favorite store in the whole universe! I have been to two of them...they are extraordinary! This man has such a keen eye for eclectic design....and creative collections. I bought ribbons from France, vintage cards, soaps, candles...I could have spent days there....I was limited by what I could carry back on the plane to NC and my flight time. I so wish he would open an east coast store....maybe DC? If ever you are in Seattle...take the time....I had to take 2 cabs to get there....but was it well worth the effort. This store has so many beautiful things, it's worth stepping in to see what's new, even if you don't "need" anything. This is a store for things you want! They have beautiful letterpress cards, lovely packaged soaps, teas, random typesetting letters and keychains, tableware, chocolates... the list goes on. I found most of the things to be overpriced, but, it's nice to look and perhaps pick up a small gift. I wandered into this store while on a weekend trip to Seattle. I was attracted by the lovely displays. Once I entered and started looking, I found any things that I liked but the prices were unfortunately sky high for most of the items. I saw a single slip of paper with a word on it for $4? While the store is absolutely gorgeous, I found many of the items that were made by artisans way over priced. I can make a lot of what was sold in that store so it takes a lot for me to actually purchase a lot of the shabby chic home decor they sell. I only bought 2 items that I felt were fairly priced out of probably a dozen things I found nice. With the way the economy is and the high cost of living in Seattle, I am not sure how successful this store can be without re-evaluating their prices. There is a world of crafty people and artisans that can manufacture a lot of these good in their home so perhaps this store is just maybe a point of inspiration for the crafty. Even though I am taken a back by the cost, I will still enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the shop and respect the aesthetic of the owner. I will visit again, maybe not to purchase but for inspiration and to sniff lemon candles. read more
