Entrance is behind the Christmas tree you see on the left. Inn at the Market entrance is at the awning on the right.

I coulda spent hours inside. A little eclectic, a little quirky and a lot fascinating! This Watson Kennedy location is tucked in by the Inn at the Market, just steps from Pike Place Market. What a great find and what great staff - so eager to help. Can't wait to come back!

Dainty, fancy, and pretty, this is the kind of gift store that I would like to open. You'll find vintage and new trinkets, some imported, including fancy ribbons, old alphabet letters, vintage keys, vintage game pieces, etc. Some of the unique items are picked up during the owner's travels. There are various tables and shelves with items (soaps, notebooks, gift tags, candles, greeting cards, perfume, lotions, etched drinking glasses, candy, coasters, pajamas, linens, patterned file folders, books) organized by color. One table has items from the UK and France. Earrings are feminine and petite. This would be the perfect place to pick up a hostess gift or something thoughtful, like Diptyque candle or Mariage Freres tea. As I wandered around admiring the inventory, I kept encountering items I'd purchased in the past. I hadn't seen E. Coudray lotion in many years...forgot it existed till I saw it here. You can't get it in the Bay Area.

My favorite sensory overloading treasure trove! This store is such a treat. I'm always inspired by the displays and the variety of items. I love that things are separated by color. I could spend days here just browsing. The mix of new and old is the perfect balance. Letterpress & handmade cards, vintage keys and games, scents, jewelry, glass... the list goes on. This is the store I own in my alternate life. It is by far the best spot at Pike Place!

My other half found a number of old maps. Maps where parts of the world hadn't been discovered at the time. They also have old pictures of famous landmarks. I ended up buying an old picture of Pikes Place. Very interesting place. If you're looking for a unique way to decorate or something for a collection, I'd give this place a look.

The Desperation: You can see them mentally checking boxes on a manager's "Engagement Checklist." * The Disconnect: They aren't reading the room; they're reading the script. * The Result: A customer who feels hunted rather than helped. Retailers often think that "High Touch" service equals "Constant Contact," but most modern shoppers view their time in a store as a solo mission. When an associate is practically tethered to you, it removes the "discovery" element of shopping. I…read moream one of those people who calls it Higo, before I will remember it is in fact Kobo now. Higo is the original shop owned and run by the Murakami family. This is one of the few businesses that survived the Executive Order 9066 written in 1942 with thanks to the non-Japanese friends of the family who owned businesses in the same building. Today, Kobo represents a new generation of local artists, selling gift items, crafts, tees, books, art, jewelry, and much more at varying level of prices. I highly recommend Kobo when shopping for unique gifts. When I recently visited, they had a glass artwork on display, art gallery style. It was also the yearly Nihonmachi celebration, and they had a table outside with an artist painting one of three designs on classic Japanese windchimes. I was thrilled to buy one of these adorable windchimes commonly featured in anime including Studio Ghibli movies.
