We are extremely happy with the wonderful job Design Works did on our sloped front lawn! Our project consisted of removing 30' & 40' spruce trees; lots of ground cover; juniper bushes and more; grade out our land, building a 68' curved retaining wall and seeding. Jim came out and withim hours came back with a quote. Once hired contact was drawn up, sent and signed by email. Extremely convenient. John and Dillion showed up on the first day and made short work of it. By the end of the day they had removed the ground cover, juniper, AND the trees! John maneuvered the excavator like it was a third hand, and on a hill! - extremely impressive! They did a beautiful job preparing the earth for Tom and Auston, who built our beautiful retaining wall. John and Dillion came back for the finishing touches of fill and loom before hydro seeding. Besides our beautiful new front lawn, what I loved most was they handled it all from beginning to end and we didn't have to hire other contractors for tree removal, landscaping or hardscaping. They did a good job designing a solution to make our wretched back yard functional and beautiful. I'm giving them only two stars because the owner did not take responsibility for damage done to my driveway by their careless running back and forth of a fully loaded Bobcat. There have also been several issues with the craftsmanship of the fencing and ants eating their way through the patio. Owner refuses to honor warranty due to dispute over damage to the driveway. I would look elsewhere and avoid the drama of this company. Not worth the premium price. read more

They did a phenomenal job on our walkway, both in design and in execution. The design was creative and worked with the rest of our house layout (colors, look). The execution was done clean and without any real disruption at the house during the week which was great. In advance, we had done 3 bids at other locals and then chose Design Works. Two keys for us were relatively quick install and overall good communication. The communication was awesome throughout the entire project and this made for a very comfortable experience. The price was right in line with the others that bid. I also read the other review (at this time) on Yelp in advance. I had my driveway refinished within the last 12 months, the excavator and other equipment used didn't leave any marks at all. This was a complete non issue. We were very happy overall and would/will use Design Works again. read more

We had a great experience with Design Works! We contacted at least half a dozen companies for some landscaping/planting we needed for our yard. Design works was the only company to get back to us and take on the project. Much appreciated since I'm sure our project wasn't the most lucrative for them but they never made us feel like it wasn't. It was a three day project with 2 separate teams (one team for excavating and stone and another for mulch and plantings) Both teams were courteous, respectful, and did a great job! It's been a year since they installed my patio and plantings. All I can say is that I now have a very expensive garden. The patio is uncomfortable to sit on anywhere. There is no level surface, and while I understand there needs to be a pitch to allow for water runoff, the thing pitches left-to-right, and back-to-front, from one corner to the diagonal opposite. Our experience was disappointing. We are at the start of complete yard landscape for our small yard and are in need of professional design assistance. After speaking with the appointment scheduler I was under the impression that for $350. dollars, we would have a landscaping schematic to work off of (which is what she told me), so we were hopeful that we would have a schematic, nothing huge or grand but maybe a drawing with some labels, a couple of measurements, plant suggestions, ideas etc. The fellow that came over to accomplish this was nice enough. He started off by stating," okay, how this works is you get 20 minutes of conversation and 30 minutes of my drawing time" so I thought "wow! he must do some fast work!" The fellow seemed to not be "into it" at all. There was no flowing of ideas, no interest really. Instead of receiving anything of value, our received product was an emailed satellite view of our property (from the gonashua website) on which the outline of our home was superimposed with use of computer aided drawing along with an out line of our drive way and a few additional lines representing areas of stone work, an existing tree, a second existing tree? (maybe it is an new one? nothing is labeled so I am not sure) , a green squiggly line on each side of the front porch representing planting areas. He took our check for $350. and that was it. Our "schematic" is honestly and sadly for us nothing more than a drawing a 3rd grader could have done. There were no labels, no measurements, no plant suggestions. I would understand if this was a free consult and I hoped that this wasn't all we were getting for $350. so I sent a follow up email asking for the final draft, plant suggestions,(anything to justify a charge of $350.) however I found out that this was what we had purchased... an emailed picture with nothing at all, absolutely nothing of any value to us. Needless to say we don't feel good about following this complete waste of our money by using the services of this company in the future. I could have purchased some plants with the money instead. It left me feeling sad, very disappointed and scammed. I would be happy to share the drawing with anyone who is interested in what a charge of $350 gets you. read more
