For a smaller regional airport, it honestly made a very good impression on us. One thing I found interesting is that despite being called an "international" airport, Austin Straubel mainly serves regional and domestic travel throughout the Midwest, though it does occasionally handle international charter and seasonal flights. The airport itself is named after Austin Straubel, the first Brown County resident killed during World War II, which adds a small historical layer many travelers probably don't realize while passing through. The airport was clean, organized, and extremely easy to navigate. In many ways, it reminded us a lot of our home airport in Sioux Falls -- Sioux Falls Regional Airport, or FSD as locals usually call it. Smaller airports like these may not have the giant terminals and endless amenities of places like O'Hare or DFW, but honestly, there is something refreshing about being able to get through security quickly, find your gate without walking five miles, and not feel completely overwhelmed by crowds. Traffic inside the airport was fairly light during our visit, and there weren't many planes moving through at the time, which made the experience feel relaxed and low stress. There honestly isn't a dramatic amount to say about the airport itself, but perhaps that's part of the compliment. Everything simply worked smoothly. And after enough years of travel, my husband and I have learned to deeply appreciate airports that make life easier instead of harder.

This is another rating where a half star would be nice (thanks Yelp). While the airport doesn't…read moredeserve a "5", I'd like to give it 4.5. It is easy to get to the airport from anywhere in the Fox Valley. When you enter the property, it is well marked to assist you in getting to your long term parking lot, short term parking lot or to the terminal. Upon entry into the main terminal it is always clean and is laid out in a user friendly manner. They even offer valet parking, at reasonable prices, near the main entrance! You have several airlines operating out of the airport. Their areas are well marked and generally staffed well. TSA always seems well staffed and does their thankless job efficiently. Once inside, the newly remodeled (gates added) gate area, you have several choices for beverages and food. There are areas to relax, areas for nursing mothers and some room to simply stretch your legs. Bathroom areas are always clean and well designed. The whole gate area is visually appealing. My only gripe has been with luggage. Several different times, it has taken quite awhile for luggage pickup. It is probably staffing related but can be annoying when returning from a long travel day. It is definitely nice to have this growing airport located in the Fox Valley!

We reserved a site at Scheffel's Hideaway Campground based on a comment from a camping acquaintance…read morethat the area was beautiful, friendly, and cooler than average. Since we had never been to that part of Wisconsin, we decided to give it a try. We've been full-time RVers for 14 years and can honestly say this is our favorite spot out of at least two or three hundred other campgrounds including everything from boondocking to resorts. The grounds are immaculate, as are the restrooms and two laundry rooms, which are handicapped friendly. The roads, while unpaved are of a fine shell or gravel and hard packed so these are easy to traverse using a walker. There are miles of popular, well-kept walking/bicycle paths nearby going from Point Rawley to the north, past the park and on to Manitowoc to the south. The owners of the park, Tammie and Paul, love the park and are working tirelessly at making it more beautiful every year. There is a lovely pond, lots shrubs and flowers as well as bat houses, bird houses and feeders (we watched goldfinches as we ate dinner several times), whimsical decorations large and small scattered throughout which are changed with the seasons. A number of sites have shade, and most of those without full grown trees have young trees about 15 feet tall or so and will provide more shade every year. Guidelines for the park are clear and reasonable: guests are asked to respect the space and people which is of course, simple common courtesy. All-in-all, this is is our idea of the perfect combination of a natural and well-kept park and friendly people. We are looking forward to our next, longer visit next year.
