For a smaller regional airport, it honestly made a very good impression on us. One thing I found interesting is that despite being called an "international" airport, Austin Straubel mainly serves regional and domestic travel throughout the Midwest, though it does occasionally handle international charter and seasonal flights. The airport itself is named after Austin Straubel, the first Brown County resident killed during World War II, which adds a small historical layer many travelers probably don't realize while passing through. The airport was clean, organized, and extremely easy to navigate. In many ways, it reminded us a lot of our home airport in Sioux Falls -- Sioux Falls Regional Airport, or FSD as locals usually call it. Smaller airports like these may not have the giant terminals and endless amenities of places like O'Hare or DFW, but honestly, there is something refreshing about being able to get through security quickly, find your gate without walking five miles, and not feel completely overwhelmed by crowds. Traffic inside the airport was fairly light during our visit, and there weren't many planes moving through at the time, which made the experience feel relaxed and low stress. There honestly isn't a dramatic amount to say about the airport itself, but perhaps that's part of the compliment. Everything simply worked smoothly. And after enough years of travel, my husband and I have learned to deeply appreciate airports that make life easier instead of harder.

Since we had never been to that part of Wisconsin, we decided to give it a try. We've been full-time RVers for 14 years and can honestly say this is our favorite spot out of at least two or three hundred other campgrounds including everything from boondocking to resorts. The grounds are immaculate, as are the restrooms and two laundry rooms, which are handicapped friendly. The roads, while unpaved are of a fine shell or gravel and hard packed so these are easy to traverse using a walker. There are miles of popular, well-kept walking/bicycle paths nearby going from Point Rawley to the north, past the park and on to Manitowoc to the south. The owners of the park, Tammie and Paul, love the park and are working tirelessly at making it more beautiful every year. There is a lovely pond, lots shrubs and flowers as well as bat houses, bird houses and feeders (we watched goldfinches as we ate dinner several times), whimsical decorations large and small scattered throughout which are changed with the seasons. A number of sites have shade, and most of those without full grown trees have young trees about 15 feet tall or so and will provide more shade every year. Guidelines for the park are clear and reasonable: guests are asked to respect the space and people which is of course, simple common courtesy. All-in-all, this is is our idea of the perfect combination of a natural and well-kept park and friendly people. We are looking forward to our next, longer visit next year. A mix of lounge and dining tables both indoors and out, with beautiful views (including a view of Lambeau Field) and lots of fresh air. The indoor bar is large but I will say the service is a bit slow. There were two bartenders plus one service person off to the side overlooking the bar ... but when things got busy she didn't step in to help out, which seemed odd. Maybe she was in training? I don't typically watch TV when I'm in a hotel, but it was cool to know that a television could magically appear at my feet with the push of a button. Other things that make The Legacy Hotel nice: the products in the shower smelled amazing, the lighting in the bathroom is super flattering, there is live music on certain nights in the bar lobby, there's a restaurant and a bar on site, the people at reception are exceedingly kind, and there's a bowl of Andes chocolate mints at the front desk. It's a bunch of little things that add up to a great hotel experience. The Legacy Hotel is located close to lots of restaurants and shops, some of which you could even walk to. I didn't, but you could. What I did do was take advantage of the gym (fitness center), which was decent and includes ellipticals, Peloton stationary bikes, treadmills, and some free weights. The fitness center is open 24 hours a day.

You can either take a guided tour (especially recommended if you're from out of town or short on time) or you can pick up a brochure at any of their OneStops and roam about on your own. But before you venture out, I recommend you study their website and also map your route. You can go to a pow wow Fourth of July weekend, or the Woodland Indian Arts Show (varies, but usually late June, early July); visit the museum to tour the permanent historical exhibit and special art exhibits. If you're a foodie you won't want to miss the Oneida Market at the corner of Packerland and Larson Rd. It looks like it's just part of the OneStop gas station but it's actually a separate store on the south side of the building. It's managed by a women's collective and they have a vast array of bulk coffee beans and teas, herbal supplements, foods produced by the Oneida cannery (pickles, jellies, etc) And their own locally, sustainably produced meat products, including beef and buffalo! Freshly processed meat comes in on Wednesday (hence it's known around here as "meat day") so Monday and Tuesday aren't the best days to shop...the refrigerated case is pretty empty by that time. In the fall, the tribe additionally operates and apple orchard with the best cider to be had anywhere.

I took the most amazing tour of the Oneida Nation Reservation over a span of 3 hours for a mere…read more$20. One of the best tours I have ever taken and it was given by the Oneida Special Events Coordinator Kirby Metoxen and he gave me the complete history, religious, political and social structure of the Oneida Nations. In the span of a few hours we visited a garage sale which I bought a wood crafted Turtle which is one of the three Oneida Nation tribes and also saw the school system, apple orchard, farm, bison farm, sweat lodge area used for Native American sweat ceremony, Salt Pig Avenue which is a small road with very old and historic wood homes that are still standing, Church of the Holy Apostles which was also very old as we went inside and Kirby played an old tape of Native American church hymns on the speakers, the Oneida Market which would remind you of a Starbucks and had local food and coffee and the Oneida Nation Museum where Kirby had the Director tell me about the history and mission of the museum. This was so fascinating to hear about the history and plight of the Oneida's and how they are building their community today. I could not have asked for a better tour of this beautiful reservation.
