My wife and I worked with Marcia Perkins on the planning of our destination wedding, which we started organizing in November of 2020 (yikes I know). Marcia worked with us to find resorts that were LGBT wedding friendly and had the aesthetic and amenities we were seeking, at a really phenomenal price for us and our guests. We def. could not have arranged a better place for our wedding (EL Dorado Casitas Royale), we truly had a spectacular time! The only advice I would give to a couple planning with them, is to get everything in writing- including your upgrades. We were promised an upgrade for the last 2 nights of our stay at another associated property, but we never received a reservation number, so we were stuck on our official honeymoon in the office for hrs trying to see if we could even stay at this new resort (after packing up, taking a cab over, etc.). Luckily for us they had an opening in a different room, and then we got 1 night in the place we were promised. All in all it worked out! But it would have been nice to avoid the stress of spending hrs trying to get this settled (which would have been avoided with a confirmation #). read more

We were scheduled and paid for a trip to attend a wedding in Costa Rica, in April 2020. Once Covid hit, Costa Rica restricted travel into the country. Since no one could have predicted a global pandemic occurring, we did not purchase travel insurance. Thankfully our agent, Carrie Peterson was able to work with the hotel and issue a credit that was used to rebook the wedding and trip to another hotel in Jamaica, December 2020. As the time got closer to that travel date, certain states still maintained strict limitations on traveling and re-entry within those states, so it was decided that the wedding should be postponed again, to the same location, in June 2021. Unfortunately, as that time came closer, the wedding had to be cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances. Carrie relentlessly tried to get us a refund from the hotel, but the bride signed a group contract and there were penalties in place. We did not purchase travel insurance this time, and understood that it was a "use it or lose it" situation. It was a risk we took, and understood the consequences, so we went to Jamaica and enjoyed our time. Notwithstanding the first cancellation due to Covid, unforeseen circumstances are not reflected on Carrie as an agent, who has always gone above and beyond on every trip myself and others have booked with her. Group contracts do vary from a standard hotel contract, and without insurances in place, you are bound to a broken contract. read more

I don't know how their service is with the couple and family, but if you care about your guests, stay clear of this company! Our agent, DeAna, is quite possibly the most incompetent sales person and customer service representative I've ever dealt with in any capacity. She will go weeks without returning emails or phone calls, and then will randomly call you 10 o'clock at night after the issue is resolved by other means. If you need to make any changes to your reservation that may include an extra cost, you won't be told upon speaking with them, but they will spring an email on you at and 1pm or even 4:48(!) and ask that you pay the cost in full by 5 PM or you will lose your entire reservation that you already paid thousands for. This has happened twice with me while working with DeAna. I'm giving it two stars for now because I haven't actually experienced the wedding, but after working with DeAna for several months now, it has already been a major headache that makes me want to drop out of the wedding all together. With the pandemic raining hard on our wedding, we contacted over a dozen travel agents to help us with our 100+ person travel wedding. Carrie was absolutely amazing in booking our trip to the Dominican Republic. Start to finish she went above and beyond to make sure we had the best experience. While on site I was injured and she insured our transfer would help get me a wheelchair at the airport and ensure I could get through without a problem. The resort, Casa De Campo, was amazing, food was delicious, spa was fantastic and the rooms were beautiful. She followed up to make sure we got there ok, our transfers were set and assisted in every step of the process. We weren't impressed for a few reasons: 1. Even though we booked 6-8 months prior to travel, we were seated in the "back of the bus". 2. The connections were HORRIBLE. We had to wake up at 4:00am to get the flight to Vancouver. On the return, we arrive home at 2:00am. 3. The Air Canada Vacations rep was not communicative. We didn't know what time the shuttle was picking us up on the return. Neither did the bride and groom, nor their parents. In the end, I called an Uber just to be sure. The resort was great, but the food was "fine" as everyone said. It became a joke sort of thing. "How was the food at that restaurant?" was the question. The answer was always "It was fine!". The staff were very good. Next time, we'll avoid the vacations package, as it didn't seem to offer any financial advantage over booking separately with hotel and airline. In fact, my parents elected to book a direct flight with WestJet and then booked the resort separately, and didn't suffer a higher price. read more

I have had such AMAZING experience working with Michele Thornburg. I cannot recommend her enough! I had been planning my wedding since back in 2019 and due to covid I finally got married on 2022. Throughout this whole time Michele was such an instrumental part of the process who ensured everything worked smoothly and successfully. I always knew I wanted to a destination wedding, but I didnt know where to start. Luckily, I found Michele and she made the whole process A LOT easier for me. Michele was extremely helpful in providing me with potential lists of resorts that i may like based on some criteria that I had given her such as (budget, style, location, etc). These were extremely helpful as it helped me narrow down my list of potential hotels. Michele is also very knowledgeable on these different resorts, so she was able to give more insights about them, stuff i wouldn't find online on my own. This also made my selection of hotels a lot easier. Michele handled all the conversations with the resort representatives and she would update me regularly on everything that was going on. This was extremely helpful as I didn't have to worry about talking to many people from the resort and had more time to focus on the fun aspect of planning a wedding which is decorations/buying a dress/etc. Michele ensured that the process was as painless as possible. Also, Michele was EXTREMELY responsive when it came to answering calls, text messages, emails. Michele was always available and always on top of everything. This is probably the thing that I appreciated the most, it made me feel like she had my back and I could sit back and relax. Furthermore, Michele was PHENOMENAL when it came to providing my guests with hotel/logistics information. All questions from my guests regarding the wedding were handled directly with Michele. I kid you not, I did not get a single question from my guests regarding logistics of the wedding, everyone knew exactly what to do. This is a testament of how great Michele was at communicating with my guests and at answering any questions that they might have had. This made the whole wedding planning process for me pretty easy and painless. I had such an amazing wedding experience . As a guest of the bride and groom, I was highly disappointed about the accommodations at Destination Weddings provided. When I booked an Ocean Deluxe Suite for a two-bedroom trip with Carrie Peterson last year, I felt secure about the trip. However, I was wrong. When I arrived at Azul Beach Resort on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, I was informed that there were no 2 beds and the hotel was booked to capacity. I asked to speak to a manager, he told me that I would've gotten better accommodations if I made reservations through Booking.com. Just know I slept on a cot for an entire week. Not to mention, the two bedroom or swim up pool options were sold out so you had to choose an Ocean Deluxe room with the option of two beds. After speaking to the manager, I was informed that there was never going to be an option for 2 beds in Ocean Deluxe. The Ocean Deluxe only comes with a King Size Bed. If I knew that I would just order a separate room from my friend. I didn't go on vacation to share a bed. More importantly, I still have not gotten my deposit back. I honestly believe that Carrie Peterson took advantage of a young black couple and their family and friends. She made a commission off of 150 ppl knowing she could never really accommodate the group. I would not recommend this travel group or for wedding destinations. Go through Booking.com or another booking agency that can accommodate. I had to cancel a trip to Jamaica due to concerns with COVID-19. I was unable to get a refund but was issued a travel credit. The travel credit was set to expire so we finally booked a trip to Mexico in June. My travel credit was able to cover the entire trip. Unfortunately I had to pay an additional $750 as a deposit to book the trip. A balance owing of $750 was owed to me. I booked the trip in Feb, and I was assured by my agent that the refund was requested. After continual follow ups, I still didn't a refund. I, again, followed up with my agent for a status update and was assured it was pending and no action was required. By the end of March, I followed up with my agent and then was told that the groups department never transferred the credits to the single booking department and it was the reason for the delay. I was very disappointed that she did not ensure that the refund was in progress. I eventually had to reach out to Sunwing directly for answers as my agents response turnaround time was quite ridiculous. I still haven't received any updates from Destination Weddings. Apart from the delay in response times, my agent was also never thorough. She didn't quite understand our travel wishes (I.E. staying with the travel credit limit) and would send quotes to the wrong email address. She also forgot to offer any cancellation/worry free add-ons to the booking. Almost weekly follow ups are required. I would recommend calling them directly but worry that nothing is documented. I would definitely not recommend their services and would be better of using another company or doing it yourself. read more

I was invited to a wedding and paid the extra fee for cancelation insurance for two. I requested the cancelation by email in January and received no response. I called Ms. Mary Ann Santana and she assured me it had been canceled, and it will be about 90 days for the refund. Yet, there is no email from her to follow on our conversation. It is now April, and I still have not received my refund or email. I spoke with her again today, and she gave me the same story as she did back in January. I asked her to follow up with an email, and 6 hours later, there is still no email. I am not sure how this company is still operating with such poor communication and customer service. My cousin hired this company for her wedding. I've had the worst experience with her wedding specialist named Nancy Yeomans. This lady has ridiculed me, belittled me, lied to me and is so unprofessional. I asked for a date change and why there wasn't travel insurance on my trip and she accused me of being wrong and would not refer me to customer service/her boss for further support. Destination weddings made it very difficult with the overall wedding process. The room bookings were outdated and confused many guests. The wedding contract with the hotel was not honored and they blamed destination weddings, who in turn blamed the hotel. It might depend on your coordinator with this company, but it was rough from the start until the end. They don't bring much value and you are better off working directly with the resort, so you don't have contract issues and lose thousands of dollars in refunds and offerings. read more

My friend used Destination Weddings for her destination wedding at Secrets Resort Cozumel. We had to pay for our rooms back in February 2020 as she was supposed to get married in May 2020. However, the resort closed temporarily due to COVID19. My friend then re-booked for the end of November. Because of the lower price in November, we told we would get refunds (this is in writing). It has been well over 90 days since we were supposed to get our refund and nothing has happened. Carol, our contact for this, has stated is multiple emails that she has been sending the accounting department an email every week. She has also been contact the tour operator as well. None of my friends who went on this trip got their refunds for the price difference. It's been over 90 days and still no idea when I will get my refund. Until proven otherwise, I can see no other explanation other than they are not planning to refund us. read more

Future bride and grooms BEWARE! We had a mountain of issues with our coordinator the last two months before our wedding - I'm only sharing the major points, otherwise this would be extra lengthy. We worked with Tiffany Dana (TJ), which was one of the worst customer service experiences we have ever received. It was impossible to get a hold of her with any questions we had or help we needed. We sent multiple emails, text messages and phone calls, to not only Tiffany, but also the customer service contact on their website and we did not receive many responses. Two weeks before our wedding, we still hadn't received our itineraries. Multiple guests reached out to Tiffany, and the only ones to receive their itineraries were the ones that did reach out. And with that, every guest received a different story as to why the itineraries weren't sent out yet. We had to reach out for multiple documents like this to make sure that everything was taken care of properly, so that when we did arrive in Mexico we wouldn't have any issues. We are all about taking care of our guests, but these are things that should have been handled through our travel agent, not me and my fiance who have never planned a wedding before. In addition to this, we asked Tiffany if everything was secured with our reception- we were planning to go off the resort to Isle Mujeres on a catamaran. From our understanding everything was good to go. But, when we reached out to her two weeks prior to our wedding to get the name of the beach club and the address of the marina we were leaving from, she told me that she didn't help coordinate anything through third parties. She originally gave me the name and phone number to contact the person about the catamaran- so why wouldn't she have the address or names of the companies as well? And, our friend's worked with Tiffany for their wedding three years ago, which was completely through a third party - not at the resort at all - we explained to her in the very beginning of our planning that we were looking to do something similar to their wedding. That makes this absolutely puzzling to me. We ended up reaching out to the person with the catamaran company, and he told us that it "could be a possibility to book this boat." I'm not sure where the lack of communication was with Tiffany, but she made us think that everything was secured, whereas the person with the catamaran was on a completely different page. This was another issue we ended up figuring out on our own, only a couple weeks before our wedding, without the help of Tiffany. Our wedding ended up getting canceled due to Hurricane Delta, a category 4 hurricane, that hit on the day of our wedding at 530AM, in the same area that we were supposed to have our wedding. Our flights ended up getting canceled the day of travel. The resort that we had a reservation through ended up evacuating all guests to an abandoned school in Cancun, where guests weren't allowed to bring all of their belongings and slept on cushions from beach chairs. Tiffany and the Destination Wedding's customer service representative, Becca Casino, tried to tell us that this was not a viable reason to cancel our trip and receive a refund. Although we did confirm with the travel insurance company that we purchased the correct insurance and had done the correct things to cancel, Tiffany and Becca sent us emails stating that we were not eligible for the cancelation. When calling the insurance company again, they told us that we had to work with our travel agent to finish the group cancelation, since we had a group of 20 people. We continued to try to get a hold of Tiffany, and the only thing she had in response to this was, "Can you tell me what the insurance company said I needed to do." Tiffany and Becca suggested we file an online claim since, according to them, we didn't file the cancellation correctly, but this would look like insurance fraud if we were to do this. My question is, why is this even a suggestion then? A month past our cancelation date, we still had no clue where in the process we were at with our claim due to the lack of responsiveness from this company. The only update we received was very generic, and this was received after we emailed not once, but twice. There was no communication whatsoever from Destination Weddings end to make sure we knew what to expect. The lack of competency from Tiffany and Becca is horrendous. Since our wedding was canceled due to weather, we would have rescheduled with Destination Weddings at a later date if it weren't for our horrible experience with both Tiffany Dana and Becca Casino. You would think, at a time where there are a lack of destination weddings and traveling in general due to a pandemic, that we would have received AAA+ service. Destination Weddings' poor customer service will end up hurting their company far more than the money they lost from our reservation. read more

What I don't understand is how they can keep calling me by the wrong name after 2 years of working with them. My girlfriend and I were set to attend a wedding last summer. It was delayed to this summer and then we had our first child in between. She's 5 weeks old and we can't travel with her yet. They said the hotel is "not making any exceptions for changes or amendments or future travel credits." called the hotel - they absolutely are. I am currently experiencing everything everyone has mentioned. My wedding planner went missing after we signed our contract and everything has turned into a nightmare. The customer service team has made numerous promises to help me and communicate with me and are also impossible to reach and do not communicate. I'm writing as a guest who used this service through the bride and groom who chose this company for their wedding. I don't think this service is beneficial at all. Their portal doesn't seem to work well, so entering information doesn't always save correctly. I couldn't enter my children into the reservations, and I wasn't able to shop options for prices for rooms - it would just send an invoice for the first option I looked up. The ladies who were helping, I'm sure were doing their best, but they're limited to what this company provides them. When money is owed, we're placing deposits with no real confirmation we have our rooms or where they will be located. I requested 2 rooms next to each other or adjacent, and I'm told that can't be guaranteed, only requested. They also recommended all guests to book flights 5 months before the wedding to be added to the reservations. This has ended up costing us $640 more in flights than we could've saved if we waited. I don't even want to click on the one star here but unfortunately yelp doesn't have a 0 stars option. The one star I'm giving is very generous of me. My best friend and her now husband went thru Destination Weddings and worked specifically with Dyvonne Willis. As maid of honor, I was very up to date with the process. Two people planning a wedding should not be put under so much stress at the hands of people who are supposed to be doing the opposite, relieving them of travel planning. Dyvonne Willis proved, time after time, to be incompetent, unprofessional and unavailable. Having all the guests just book their rooms thru bookings.com would've saved the bride and groom a lot of headache and frustration. The 2 days before the wedding were the worst. She wouldn't even respond to the guests who were having issues with their reservations or transportation from airport to resort. I had people calling me because they couldn't reach her! She is not capable of doing her job or communicating effectively. Do not go through this company. Avoid at all costs! read more

If you submit to work with DestinationWeddings.com and are assigned the consultant Lindsay Carter, I recommend either immediately giving up on having a destination wedding, or asking/forcing the company to assign a different consultant. The first time I called her (after receiving emails advising me they recommend STARTING with a 15-30 minute call) one of the first things she said to me was: "Did we have an appointment?" It was not a tone to clarify, but rather a tone to put me in my place as being inappropriate for calling her at all...during her listed business hours I might add. So I gave it a little time, you know some people don't present the best for first impressions. But she pushed us to request dates for April, which I never wanted. The communication with her was very difficult to deal with. Her answers lacked detail and information. She took a long time to answer messages. She made it seem like calling her would not be acceptable. The last set of quotes we asked her for, she took 2 weeks to provide, and only after I emailed again asking if she was working on it. She then gave the excuse of taking time off with her kids. That's fine, I get that everyone needs time with their family. But she didn't tell us beforehand that she'd be away, you know after we'd already asked for the quotes and she said she sent them out to the airlines. There was no coverage by another consultant in her absence either. Ultimately, she took so long to answer that the prices she was quoting had gone up about $800CAD/pp from previous similar quotes she provided. Not to mention that that last 2 week-turn-around for the quotes, when they were finally return to us, they didn't follow the parameters we'd asked for. It was at this point, about 2.5 months after initiating contact with DestinationWeddings.com which we gave up on even having a destination wedding. We are now having one in our home city, 4.5 months from the date we gave up on DestinationWeddings.com. It has been 1.5 months since I got any message from Lindsay. She didn't even bother to ask if we were still planning a destination wedding. Did I mention that with the number of guests we were expecting (50+/-), it would have been a total sale of about $95,000 to $120,000? I guess that didn't even matter based on the level of professionalism displayed. read more
