I had an awful experience booking through DestinationWeddings.com, and the biggest problem was our travel agent, Sandi McConnell. She was unprofessional, reactive, and consistently ineffective, exactly the opposite of what you're paying a travel agent to be. 1) She promised a price match, then booked a more expensive package. I was told she would price match the package I found, and then she turned around and booked a package that was about $400 more expensive. That alone destroyed any trust and removed the only "value" a travel agent is supposed to add. 2) She didn't do basic due diligence before we traveled. When we arrived, the resort had major issues, large parts of the resort and key amenities were closed due to hurricane impact, and none of it was disclosed beforehand. Instead of owning that failure and stepping up, Sandi's response made it clear she hadn't proactively checked anything with the resort or tour operator. She literally wrote that "very little was communicated to us in the travel industry" and that updates were happening daily, and also said she "was unaware of how important the gym was" because it wasn't relayed to her. That response says everything: she was not proactive, not verifying conditions, and only reacted after we were already stuck on the property dealing with problems. 3) When issues came up on-site, she pushed the work back onto us. Rather than taking ownership and advocating for us as our agent, she repeatedly told us to handle it with the front desk ourselves. At that point, what exactly am I paying an agent for if I'm still the one spending my vacation chasing solutions? Bottom line: DestinationWeddings.com delivered a more expensive booking with less support. Sandi McConnell was reactive, blame-shifting, and provided no meaningful help when it mattered. I won't book with this company again, and I strongly recommend others avoid them unless you want to pay extra and still manage every problem yourself. read more

Scenery is stunning though. Our butlers were the most positive thing, they were great and tried their best to make our stay better. We booked our destination wedding through Destination Weddings for our April 2025 wedding. We met the promotion credit requirement for rooms booked and traveled and paid the room block deposit. Per our contract, our final reconciliation and refund were supposed to be processed within 90 days of travel -- meaning by July 2025. We're now well past that deadline, and despite multiple follow-ups, we have not received our group deposit refund or our promotional credit that was clearly outlined in our agreement. Even worse, on August 29, 2025, our coordinator confirmed in writing that our credit would be processed within 30 days. That deadline came and went with no communication, no update, and no payment. At this point, the company is in clear breach of contract, and we've had to seek legal representation just to recover what we're owed. What should have been a celebratory post-wedding wrap-up has turned into a frustrating, time-consuming battle. Once they have your money, the communication stops. If you're planning your wedding, think twice before using Destination Weddings Travel Group. Oh and let's not forget we had to change travel agents because the first agent, Veronica, was unresponsive. We had multiple complaints from our guests and loss of rooms with guests choosing book directly due to her lack of communication. The follow-through with this company is nonexistent. From start to finish, their incompetence, lack of communication, and dereliction caused immense distress. Booking and Communication Failures: I attempted to book a room through their service 13 times, but each attempt failed. Despite submitting payment details multiple times, they ignored my requests to modify bookings or add family members. Their communication was unprofessional; calls and emails were ignored, and they received vague, contradictory responses. They told me that changes could not be made to the reservations, which was inaccurate and erroneous as I was able to contact the property directly, and they accommodated me accordingly. Also, we asked for travel assistance for a family member or two who were booked separately, and they never got back to us despite the family members traveling together, leaving us to fend for ourselves in another country. Moreover, no emergency contact numbers were provided, leaving us stranded during critical moments. DAY 1 Dereliction During a Crisis: When a shooting occurred at the resort, I contacted Destination Weddings immediately. They were my first point of contact; what a mistake! Despite the emergency situation of active shooters, they failed to respond. The lack of emergency protocols or contact numbers left my family to navigate the crisis alone, forcing us to rely on the U.S. Embassy for assistance. DAY 2 Wedding Disruption: The wedding plans were disrupted as my sister had to relocate the ceremony due to safety concerns on the beach, where a shooting had taken place the day before. The emotional toll on my sister, the bride, and my family was devastating, and the inadequacies of Destination Weddings and Grand Palladium Costa Mujeres overshadowed the entire event. Collectively, they were unfit to handle the events as described. DAY 3 Life-Threatening Medical Emergency: There was a life-threatening medical emergency at the Indian restaurant at the resort that could have been avoided. My niece has a severe nut allergy, and despite repeatedly informing the resort staff, including the hostess and the waiter, she was served food that contained cashew nuts. This triggered a severe anaphylactic reaction, putting her life at risk. She required two EPIPEN injections and medical intervention, and was ultimately transported by ambulance to the emergency room to a hospital 30 minutes away. Even days later, my niece continues to have medical consequences from the food intoxication, contamination, and poisoning. The restaurant staff, including the Chef, displayed a complete lack of awareness regarding food safety and allergens, and erroneously stated, "there are no nuts, only cashew nuts." This experience was devastating. It is crucial for the wedding team to be aware of such life-and-death emergencies and to communicate effectively with guests about these risks. The experience was profoundly disappointing and emotionally devastating, turning what should have been a joyous celebration of love into a traumatic ordeal that left lasting scars on our family. Went to Mexico for my brothers wedding. Firstly, Sue Allen was really rude. When we arrived at the hotel none of our family members were near one another, I am not sure what paying a room blockage fee was for ?? Secondly the entire process she was rude through email, typing in size 14 font, I had to constantly text her to get an answer. When I would call and leave her voicemails she would say she had never received called. There was at one point that I even asked for a supervisor and her response was that she has no supervisor.... Destination Weddings is trash. I was able to get price matched because JetBlue Vacations offered the same thing cheaper than the Destination Weddings package. Sue Allen is not a nice person. The end. December 4th was supposed the be the happiest day of my life and through the efforts (or lack thereof) of Destination Weddings Travel Agency and Secrets Royal Beach, Punta Cana it ended up being one of the most disappointing and chaotic experiences of my life. I spent 18 months planning every detail with so much love and care. We ended up choosing to book Secrets Royal Beach in Punta Cana through Destination Weddings from a friend's suggestion after he and his wife had a positive experience with both companies. This is where our nightmare started. Our first travel agent- Sally Martinez - was incredibly disorganized and seemed to struggle with basic communication. She confused the groom for other guests in our wedding on multiple occasions and provided different date ranges to the few guests in our party that she managed to return calls to. One pair of guests was upgraded to the honeymoon suite upon their arrival because our travel agent booked him to arrive 2 full days before anyone else on our guest list. We think it was communicated to the hotel that he was the groom as the honeymoon decoration was on his door, and our door was bare. Not that we cared much about door decorations, but we took notice and joked about it for the rest of the week. Sally was confused about which room type we wanted and rather than confirming with us she just booked whatever room she felt like. After 8 months of struggling to get anything resembling communication with Sally we switched to a new travel agent who did her best to pick up the pieces but the damage was already done. Upon our arrival to the Secrets resort we indeed were placed in the wrong room and our butler managed to get us the room we had initially paid for - with an additional upgrade fee. Booking the hair and make up appointments for the ladies was a struggle in and of itself. I reached out 3 times over the course of 3 weeks before I got a response including a reservation form. The appointments for the 5 of us were separated into 2 blocks with the bridesmaids at 9am and my mother and me at 12:30. A bridal suite was never mentioned - if knew about it I, of course, would have booked it to spend extra time and create memories with my mother and closest friends. However American Airlines lost my parents luggage and they left the resort to buy clothes to wear to my wedding that morning. I spent the majority of my wedding morning alone. I feel like the wedding specialist Should have been much more involved in this booking. I handed print outs of the readings/blessings I wanted to our on site coordinator and confirmed the ceremony timeline with her and confirmed we wanted to read our handwritten vows and I wanted a traditional Celtic blessing for our handfasting unity ceremony. The day of the wedding our resort officiant - Lucus- confirmed those same exact details with the groom 20 minutes before the ceremony. The ceremony I planned was not the ceremony I got. The officiant "got nervous" and like Sally - did whatever he wanted. 3 days after our train wreck of a wedding (not destination's fault, but still awful) when we had time to discuss our concerns we requested a meeting the the GM/ Assistant GM and that was the night we got our "just married" door banner and rose petals on the floor/bed. It really felt like everything for my husband and I was booked as a regular stay and once we arrived and later began expressing our concerns they realized WE were guests of honor and they scrambled to treat us as such. Sally, you should be removed from your employment for your complete mishandling of such special moments in people's lives. I spent the remainder of my trip in tears and upset. In addition, the majority of my guests experienced travel issues with American Airlines to get there and back home such as lost luggage and minimal compensation for being involuntarily bumped to flights 12+ hours after their original flight. I have never felt more bitter, and guilty, about a travel experience. I will NEVER stay at another Hyatt location, Secrets location or even return to the Dominican Republic and I encourage anyone reading this to avoid these companies at all costs. Secrets, Hyatt, Destination Weddings Travel Agency and American Airlines shame on you for making my wedding such a devastating and frustrating experience for my husband and me, my parents, my mother in law and countless other loved ones. read more

Here was my situation: I planned a vow renewal trip two years ago (2023) for our 25th year anniversary. The trip money was due February 15 2025 which was the day to cancel for a full refund. I canceled January 10 2025 due to me having cancer and having to go through chemo treatments at the time that our trip would have been occurring. The trip was paid in full by me way ahead of time in the amount of $3,461.70. My travel agent Tori advised me that refunds would be 45 to 60 days out from the date of cancellation. We were well past those 60 days and no refund was received despite me reaching out to Tori and requesting an update. She advised me several times that she would check the status but had never gotten back with me. Then she stopped responding. With my illness, I cannot be stressed and I was beyond stressed! Enter Teresa MacDonald on Monday 03/17/2025 : She informed me that Tori was no longer with the company and that she would contact accounting and her team to find out the status of the refunds. Teresa was very patient and accommodating throughout all of my constant emails. Never did I detect any attitude or non-compassion toward the situation. She remained professional and courteous throughout the whole process. I could not have asked for a better representative of the company to look into my issue. She followed up and answered all of my emails each time. Teresa followed up and had the refund status by Thursday 03/20/2025. The stress I was feeling disappeared and restored my faith in this company. Will I book again when I am hopefully in remission? Yes I will. My experience with Tori was great up until I had to cancel the trip due to my illness. Teresa is such an asset to your company from what I experienced. We were supposed to attend a wedding in November in Mexico. We were told to book our rooms by 6/15, so we did. I actually paid the entire balance and added the protection travel plan that offers credit if I cancel. Me, cancelling, is exactly how the terms are stated. A day or two later the bride and groom message everyone saying the company is tripling the price of the wedding and they would give us an update whether they'll cancel or come to an agreement. We find out that they'll cancel the wedding. Our rep Andrea Coots lets us know the rooms are going to all be cancelled. They give people with NO travel insurance their money back, and here we are with the travel insurance being told they will give us credit for future use. I have been trying to communicate since the 18th with Andrea and kept being told she would let us know what happens. I tried to communicate through a call which she never returned my call. Every email for the first 3 or 4 days was telling me she will let us know. Then suddenly now sending us snip shots of what the terms say that if we cancel we get credit. We are not the ones who cancelled, I purchased this coverage not to be taken advantage of. It makes zero sense that people who didn't purchase coverage get their money back, while ones who did get taken advantage of. Emailing Andrea is like talking to a wall. This has been such a stressful experience and I feel so sorry for the bride and groom I can only imagine their experience. I truly did not want to write this review, but I am very disappointed with Celebration Travel. I booked my 50th birthday trip to Jamaica for 20 ladies through this agency. When comparing quotes, another company included hotel accommodations, Club Mobay so we could travel to the hotel together, and excursions for our stay. Although that package seemed a bit pricey, I chose Celebration Travel because they promised me the same things during my conversation with the agent. However, once we were a month away from the trip, I was told that Celebration Travel does not handle excursions and that the hotel would be responsible for the group dinner reservation. This left me scrambling to make all arrangements directly with the hotel myself. Additionally, I was told that I would receive perks for booking 10 rooms, but I did not. Some of my guests paid for Ocean Front rooms and were instead placed in Junior rooms. Some ladies were not picked up at the hotel and had to pay out of pocket for transportation to the airport. To make matters worse, the last time I had spoke to my agent was two days before my trip, and now, more than a week after returning, I still have not received a check up. This was supposed to be a stress-free, celebratory trip, but instead I spent much of my time fixing issues instead of enjoying my milestone birthday. We got married in El Dorado Royale on October 22, 2022! So happy with this service. We worked with Andrea Coots from Destination Weddings. We reached out the beginning of 2022 and was sending out save the dates by February 2022. She was very responsive to all of our questions and concerns. As an example, 2 of our friend's flights got cancelled so they wanted to extend their stay to not lose a day. I emailed Andrea and within minutes she responded that she was already on the phone with my friends helping them figure it out. We haven't heard any complaints from our party either. Even when we decided to extend our stay Andrea helped us coordinate our private shuttle back to the airport! We had a positive experience with them and the company. The only complaint we had about our wedding week/weekend is in regards to the resort we stayed - completely out of Andrea's hands. A couple of our guests had to switch rooms and honestly we wanted to do the same at some point but just decided to stay since we were barely in our room anyway. Some of their rooms are just more updated than others. That's all I'm going to say! Just letting other couples know ahead of time if their planning to do their wedding at El Dorado! We just used destinations wedding to plan our wedding out in Cancun which was also recommended by my sister that had used it for hers. If zero stars were possible. This company is a joke. I tried to cancel my guest for a wedding I was attending and paid for about 60 days in advance. I didn't cancel 93 days in advance so I was out the money for my guest. No one wasted or lost ANYTHING with that much notice. They wouldn't refund me and blamed the resort. I am sorry but there is not a resort around that has a cancellation policy that far out and I looked on the resort's site and there is no such policy. I had a bunch of issues at the resort and when I wrote an email to complain about the whole situation I didn't hear back for a week. Emailed and tried to call for follow-up... finally emailed and called again THREE MONTHS LATER Lars finally responded. Told me I was receiving a partial refund on my first night back to the card charged. After emailing for clarification THREE MORE TIMES for amount, date refunded and card it went on he responds $24. Insult to injury with this horrible company. DO NOT USE THEM. Poor communication, terrible policies, I have no idea how they are still in business. I own two businesses and have worked in customer service my whole life. Shame on this company. read more

I hope all is well. I am writing this review as my wife and I think it's important to share with you some of our frustrations during our recent stay at Majestic Mirage Punta Cana from 6/21-6/26 for my sisters Destination Wedding. Upon our arrival we were provided with room 3404 which was the SkyView private rooftop with a jacuzzi. It was a very nice room. Unfortunately the air conditioner was not working and the mini-bar was also not functioning as my wife and I went to grab some drinks only to find them warm. I proceeded to contact guest services at least three times about the air conditioner and mini-bar not working and after multiple attempts no success. We decided to suffer and fall asleep in extreme hot temperatures because we were exhausted from our early morning flight. We hit the room about 8:30PM and contacted guest services and we waited until about 10:30PM. The maintenance crew showed up after 11PM, by that time I was frustrated with being disrupted in our sleep and lack of urgency on their end. We were tired and needed our rest. The following day, our assigned butler Jorge informed us that we were being moved to another room. The new room was 5203. This room while nice it did not provide the same accommodations that I specifically selected when booking my room and what my wife and I wanted. We wanted our privacy for five days while at the resort. I explained to Jorge that this was not the room that we paid for. This was basically a downgrade from what I paid for. I also told Jorge if they cannot accommodate another SkyView room then we needed to be reimbursed the difference from what we initially paid for. Jorge informed us that he will relay that message and concern to the manager. Two days past and still no update on our request, my wife and I decided not to continue nagging about another SkyView but instead enjoy our vacation with the family since my sister Shannel was renewing her wedding vows. However, I expected that Jorge would provide us with an update. On June 25th, early Sunday morning at exactly 7:57AM, I offered a reasonable resolution attempt, I asked if the manager would provide us with a complimentary couples massage at the spa, we would be satisfied. Jorge did not respond to my inquiry until 8:50PM. He apologized claiming he left his phone in his room and didn't see the message until that time. I say that's complete BS because having his phone is an essential piece of equipment to communicate with the families and guests he is assigned to. My wife and I have been to many resorts including another in Punta Cana (which provided way better service than Majestic Mirage) and this was by far our worst customer service experience ever. This is not a five star resort as they would like to proclaim. The food was horrendous. I had stomach issues for 3 days straight. And no I don't have a weak stomach. I am physically fit and watch what I eat, however, for three days me and the toilet were pretty well acquainted. Not fun at all. I know that I have expressed my concerns thoroughly, I do want to say the staff were amazing. Very friendly and certainly accommodating when possible. The grounds were spectacular. Pristine and beautiful. However, I want to make it clear that I or we will never ever make it a point to visit Majestic Mirage in Punta Cana again. The resort pushes quantity over quality. There are too many guests for butler staff. Not enough staff for the size of the resort it is. In closing, I would not recommend Destination Wedding or Majestic Mirage in Punta Cana for any services they provide. To date, I have not received any resolution to my concerns that was submitted on June 26, 2023. It's now July 11, 2023 and crickets. The company can give two shits on how customers feel. I worked with Maggie Elle's for our destination in wedding in Antigua. We stayed at The Royalton Antigua in early December 2022. It was the most seamless experience. We had 80 guests who traveled from all over the US. Maggie made it so easy for us. She was so responsive and took care of everything. She made sure to jump in with our on-site wedding planner to make sure we got everything we were promised. Any hiccups we encountered were handled with grace and ease. I can't say enough good things. This was the experience of our lives and I wish I could redo it again and again. 10/10 recommend this experience! read more

I don't know how this has so many good reviews on the Knot and Wedding Wire, maybe because guest can't write reviews and it's easy for the bride and groom, but if you want guest to actually come to your wedding do not use this service. My cousin is using this for his wedding and it has been a total nightmare for all guest. The booking system is archaic, nothing is user friendly and our wedding coordinator is always away or unresponsive. Guest are not sent individual invoices but a group invoice (to one person) which makes no sense since the room price is determined by the amount of people planning to stay in each room. Our last scheduled payments were somehow not made even though the rest have gone through fine and now our room has been automatically canceled. You can't even go back in the system to look at your scheduled payments, it just brings you to the outstanding balance. They have no problem responding quickly or sending multiple emails when they want you to put down a deposit to secure your room or make a payment by a certain date but seem to be MIA for anything else. For the amount of money this is I would expect this to be a super simple and user friendly payment/booking process for guest. Top notch customer service should just be a given but apparently not. read more

My experience with Leslie Morris was disappointing to say the least. She was neither helpful nor pleasant to deal with. My brother-in-law and now sister-in law used Leslie Morris via Destination Weddings to plan their wedding in the DR. My understanding is that Leslie's job was was to help facilitate guests getting to the hotel to celebrate the wedding. She was quite bad at this. Given that I have a baby (which I disclosed to Leslie), I wanted to fly out from Toronto as I planned to fly from Vancouver to Toronto and then Toronto to Punta Cana on a separate day in an effort to break the flight in half. Getting flight times was like pulling teeth from Leslie. I explained how important flight times are when flying with a baby-most parents like to fly at particular times in order to factor in nap times, feeding schedules etc. Despite this, she put little effort into finding alternative flight times. I had to follow up with her multiple times and sure enough after insisting that she check for alternative flights on numerous occasions, I was able to find an ideal daytime flight for my family. Honestly, I'd rather deal with a computer any day. Leslie was so unpleasant to deal with that I considered arranging my travel to the DR myself-something I am more than capable of, however I knew my brother-in-law needed the numbers to reach a threshold that was required per the wedding contract. If it weren't for this fact, I would have much preferred to make my own arrangements and not deal with Leslie. In any event, I waited until my return to write my review of Leslie (and Destination Weddings as she is a representative of same) because I didn't want to chance any "errors" with respect to my flight/flight documents. I'm glad I waited to write my review because upon arriving in the DR for the wedding, I was advised by numerous other guests that they had a disappointing experience with Leslie Morris as well. Other guests described her as "terrible, incompetent, unpleasant"-basicially the same experience I had. I was told that she made spelling errors with respect to names (truly unacceptable given her job and the importance of correct spelling when it comes to travel documents), I was also told she failed to submit crib and microwave requests on behalf of other parents (I didn't trust her so I made my own personal requests directly to the hotel) and i was told she was generally unpleasant to deal with. Just because you add "cheers' to the end of every email, doesn't make your email any more polite. After hearing all of this, I made sure to let my new sister-in-law know that she shouldn't be recommending Leslie Morris/Destination Weddings to anyone. I had already told her about my experience with Leslie and I had urged her to write to all her guests herself in advance of the wedding to remind them to check their travel documents for spelling accuracy (which she did). In summary, I wouldn't tell anyone I know to use Destination Weddings because of my experience with Leslie Morris. I also intend to re-post this detailed and honest review elsewhere where reviews may be posted. Finally, I urge Destination Weddings to have Leslie take a customer service refresher course. Sometimes people tend to get too comfortable in their jobs and that may be the case here. Regardless, Leslie's lack of competency is unacceptable and not a great reflection on your company. read more

I spent over $200 on cancel for any reason insurance. The wedding was cancelled because of covid, and I am still waiting for my money FOUR MONTHS LATER. No one has gotten their money back!
