I've had to use this business as part of recovery from 2 different shoulder surgeries. I really…read moreappreciate the personal attention I received and the follow up and after care. I really felt like Jon, the owner and therapist cared about my recovery and getting me back to my performance goals. Though his business also houses a massage therapist (that I also recommend) and a personal trainer, he treats 1 patient at a time and uses a variety of tools and equipment to deliver high quality care. I find that he is also very responsive to scheduling requests and tries to be as accommodating as possible. I highly recommend seeking treatment at optimum performance for all types from youth athletes to injury or surgical recovery.

Our son has worked with Jon at Optimum Performance Physical Therapy on a couple different occasions…read moreto help him recover quickly and safely from triathlon and swimming injuries. Most recently, our son did something to his shoulder during this year's high school swim season...this took him out of the water for 5-6 weeks because he could not lift his arm in certain motions or swim his workouts without significant pain in his shoulder. He was evaluated by a couple different orthopedic doctors, both of whom thought our son tore his labrum in his shoulder...a condition that often results in surgery to fix the problem, with several months plus of rehab after the surgery. Getting this news right at the start of swim season was devastating, to say the least. We did a special MRI of the shoulder joint, and upon evaluating that, it was discovered that there was no tear of his labrum!! Great news, however, our son was still having tremendous pain with certain common movements of his arm, shoulder and even pushing down with his hand at times. We opted to get a steroid shot into that inflamed area of the shoulder joint space and to start extensive physical therapy in order to try to get our son back in the water, as he REALLY wanted his high school swim season and was super frustrated and defeated by this setback. Jon was our "go to" guy for these sessions of physical therapy. His hours worked best with our son's hectic schedule and we trusted him from working with him for past injuries. Plus, you just can't beat Jon's professionalism, compassion and genuine interest he takes in you as a client, but more so, just as a person. Jon was able to work 2-3 times a week on our son to try to get him back to functioning without pain and back to swimming. Jon simply went above and beyond by trying different things and exercises on him...he even loaned us a piece of strength training equipment to help get our son's shoulder stronger. I'm happy to report, with Jon's help, our son was able to get back in the water for the later portion his high school swim season. He ended up having to switch gears physically (and mentally) to sprinting events instead of his usual distance events, because of not being able to swim longer distances due to shoulder and arm fatigue. However, even with the event changes and mental changes that went on, our son ended up qualifying for State in all four of his events!! We didn't know if he would be able to get back in the water this year when all these shoulder issues started happening, let alone make it to State. Our son even ended up being part of a relay team for his school that broke a 22 year old school record!! So exciting!! BIG THANKS to Jon at Optimum Performance for supporting him and not giving up on him in the process...and of course, for helping us avoid shoulder surgery, too!! We appreciate everything that was done and highly recommend Jon's work and expertise.

I had requested to be able to view the results when he would be explaining it to me so that I could physically see what he was talking about. I know there is the capability to pull an image for me to look at. I certainly understand time constraints, and that I am not a doctor, but I also trust what I've learned through previous experiences which have been many with the medical field & have learned the questions to ask so that I have a clear understanding and there are no surprises and that it is OK for me to be a strong advocate for myself. This is my body and I've been living in it for 60 years. He told me he can feel a patient's Achilles and know without any MRI whether they need surgery or not. I asked him if he would do an actual surgery on someone without relying on an MRI image, images or report. His answer was yes because he's been doing this for so long. That was a huge red flag to me as he continued to tell me he could diagnose it, but if I still wanted an MRI he would order it. I said yes, I still want the MRI, Also telling him that I was more than willing to pay outright for the MRI, not submitting it to insurance to expedite the process so that if this was a rupture or anything like that, I wouldn't be paying the consequences later on. Speaking to him this morning he told me he could get me into an MRI today also telling me I needed to trust the process. When I told him that I don't trust the process and why I did not due to previous experiences, he bluntly told me where I could go to see other professionals, but left the office with the agreement that he was setting up the MRI for today for me...less than five minutes later, the nurse comes in and says there are no more MRI spots available today and would not be till next week. I declined. They recommended an orthopedic shoe at $345 which can be found anywhere online & locally for under $50. No justification for the price only the comment that "we can run it through your insurance." I did not feel that this physician or Capitol Orthopedics & Sports Medicine Clive office worked in my best interest as a patient. Yet the opposite with an enormous ego. I wish I would've asked for a nurse to be present or that I would have recorded my office visit. It's situations exactly like this that make me & others not "trust the process." I immediately went to another very well known professional physician/surgeon and the experience was night and day. Extremely professional, I felt that the physician truly cared as he listened & took time to do a full examination to evaluate then promptly scheduled an MRI for me same day. I would not recommend Dr Lee or Capitol Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. I will also note that I did not seek out to complete a Google review, but was sent a link requesting a review of Dr. Lee and then completed the review requested. Update...After having an MRI it was officially determined that I did not have a Achilles tendon rupture. I shudder to think what action Dr. Lee would have taken without an MRI had I trusted him as he insisted I needed to.

We've been to Capital Ortho countless times (athletic teen boys). Dr. Nygun has been fantastic…read moreevery time! He has promptly identified the ailment & treated the issues to the extent he can. When needed, he has got us referred for follow up, both within the office & in one case to a UofIA specialist. Getting MRIs scheduled has been smooth & very quick. Dr Jacobson has now done ACL reconstruction on both of my sons and couldn't be happier with the outcome. The nursing staff of both Dr Nygun & Dr Jacobson have also been great & very prompt addressing any questions/needs we have. Highly recommend!
