Never ever go to Carmel Hills in Independence, MO. This place has a kitchen staff that doesn't know…read morehow to cook or read. Always forgetting people's food trays. Serving food that's raw. The kitchen walked out in the middle of their shift one day and there was no one left to cook dinner. They had to call people in which made dinner late. Today the kitchen staff didn't show up. There were only 2 people in the kitchen for breakfast then only 4 for lunch. They never send us meal tickets on time for us to fill out on the weekends. People are getting food that it says on their ticket they are not supposed to have or don't want. I have been here for three months now. Since mid September and every night the kitchen fucks up. I have talked to everyone. I have complained and complained. I'm not the only one. All residents are complaining here about the food and the kitchen staff and nothing gets done. The manager babies the kitchen but no one eats here. All the staff orders out for the dinner and eats better than the residents. I cannot say it enough. DO NOT SEND YOUR FAMILY HERE. THEY DON'T CARE HERE. The nurses and the CNAs work their butts off but the facility expects too much from them. The upper management plays favorites and tells them to give showers to certain residents instead of others who have been waiting. They pull the shower girl off of doing showers so she can help the CNAs then residents get upset that they don't get showers. Does the management care? Not at all. If you got a complaint, Charmaine, the head lady in charge, sends someone else to listen to the complaint so she don't have to deal with it. Again...DO NOT SEND ANYONE TO CARMEL HILLS. If I had a choice I would leave zero stars. #carmelhillsindependencemo

I brought him back home after 5 hours of him not getting any meds, never hooked his oxygen, I had to unpackage all tubing and masks put it on him and turn it on. My husband has stage 4 lung cancer with COPD and emphysema, he is oxygen dependent!!! I told them he was a fall risk, his side rails/wedges stayed on the floor beside his bed the whole time. Nobody greeted us upon arrival, we got their transport chair by ourself, got him out of our car, into the building. We took him to the restroom, as I told them he had to go on way there. We was assured a private room, that also did not happen. The poor gentleman who shared a room with my hubs had been there a week for rehab, asked for shower every day, was still waiting for that shower. I feel so guilty leaving that elderly man in that retched place. None of the staff was friendly. They ended dialing the police because I was livid. Our lovely Phoenix Hospice on call nurse stopped her from making the call. Melody, RN with Phoenix, helped us pack him up and get him out of there. She followed us home and made sure we were settled. DONT BRING YOUR LOVED ONE OR ANYONE TO THIS GOD FORSAKEN PLACE. This app made me leave the one star in order to get out of it. I give them -100 stars

The people at Jackson Creek talk a great game, and it is a pretty place, but once you are actually…read morethere, it is as if you have entered the Twilight Zone. Promises are made and never kept. They say one thing one day and something totally different on another day...or even in the same day...while never acknowledging they are telling contradictory stories. It is my personal opinion from having visited my mother nearly every day in this rehab facility for weeks that you should never put a loved one in this facility unless they are totally cognizant and have the capability to monitor what drugs they are being given and the ability to monitor their own care in every other way and are not deemed a fall risk. If they are too impaired or too shy to ask questions and stand up for themselves, their health could be in peril unless you hire an additional 24 hour private nurse you can trust. In one instance, a new health problem arose that looked like it could be very serious, and I had to insist the LPN get it checked then rather than wait until the next day when it would be more convenient for staff. This is not to say there are not some absolutely wonderful people working there. It's just hard for the few good ones to make up for the ones who are not. At best, I feel patients are getting poor nursing care a great deal of the time, and at worse, it is possible there is a concerted effort to defraud Medicare by giving drugs that are not necessary and/or long after they are not needed in order to raise the bill...or perhaps it is just laziness and/or lack of good medical knowledge. I just can't be sure what's going on there, but it isn't anything good. My extensive experience with this rehab facility prompts me to say run, don't walk, away from any possibility of getting yourself or a loved one rehab at this facility. The rehab portion might be okay although instead of the 3 hours therapy per day my mother was supposed to get, she got a small fraction of that. I had read a scary user review before I took my mother there that I should have taken more seriously, and I have since run into others who have also had a bad experience there. The problems seem to be pervasive.

Then an brief hospital visit landed us in the rehab facility of the Groves. There most definitely was a lot to be desired there. Cleanliness and staff time efficiency was a major concern. We were ready to move her, but they kept her until the Medicare money was used up. Then on to their assisted living in the White Oak building in mid 2023. . At first there were a lot of issues that concerned us. Then Roseanne showed up. That woman has poured her heart and soul into turning White Oak around. The building itself, particularly the lacking hvac has been dealt with. She has started so many programs to keep the residents engaged and having fun as much as they wished to participate in. She has been a godsend to this building!

It felt as if the room was already rented and they needed us out. Nursing staff was busy administering COVID tests, and masks are still required. I promise, we started packing as soon as she passed, and it might have taken another 20 minutes for us to finish getting the clothing out. Note to the administration: please communicate with the families. We really needed to know that once your loved one passes, you only have a few seconds to resolve the arrangements and have the room ready for the next resident. We all pass, and fortunately; she was only in hospice for a couple of days, so we knew this was the end for her, but we should have been prepped ahead of time to know the urgency to vacate. We do recognize how hard it is to find a nursing home that takes Medicare, so we are appreciative. Be up front with the families. Thank you!

My first workout was mild, but Ian built the intensity slowly over several sessions, so that the last 2 sessions I had left me feeling the endorphins for about 24 hours after the workouts, which is so close to being completely pain free so that even my husband noticed how much happier I was after the aquatherapy. Do NOT let fear of the water intimidate you from taking advantage of this wonderful resource! In the same way race horses are toned in water tanks for racing, you can rebuild your strength with aquatherapy! And, lastly, the folks at the front desks are always friendly and happy to see you, even though this facility is quite busy with patients who stay and patients that come daily. I am so glad I was willing to drive the 50 minutes it takes me to get there for these sessions every week.
