Went in for a haircut which was supposed to be 40 dollars. The barber was Yobi. She got everything done in less than 15 minutes. Didn't even show me a mirror to check the cut on my backside. This place really is something special. Forget about the barbershop for a moment and just run in to enjoy seeing a great old building reclamation. I met the owner, Chad, and he walked me through what they had to do to make this wonderful space. I assure you that, while I am sure this was a well thought out business development, this facility was a labor of love. It was a great experience. Derek is a mad scientist with a blade. I mean this cat is making magic in here! I look and feel like a new man. Detroit Barber is a high end shop so the prices are on the high end. More inline with a salon but I think most people will find that this place meets or exceeds the experience you get anywhere else. They have a great website that allows you to book all of your specific services online. They also have a world class selection of in house products. I only bought a couple of them tonight but both of them seem amazing. They have a more established location in Ferndale that is much closer to home. In a pinch I might go. However, Detroit Barber gives me a great excuse to get down to Corktown and I think most days I will try to get here. I envision a day that begins at The Mercury Bar with a pre-cut cocktail, has a stop here for a cut and shave, and ends with some BBQ at Slows. Sounds like a solid afternoon to this guy. My partner got a head shave (straight razor) and beard trim today by Brian and GODDAMN he looks and smells good. The whole hot/cold towel wrap, moisturizing, beard balm shebang. About an hour. Excellent experience overall. They've got a coffee shop upstairs now, so I had a Vanilla Bourbon latte (no alcohol, but a lovely oaky taste) and it was terrific. My go to barbershop and for a good reason. All of the barbers are very friendly and can definitely cut in my opinion. The staff in the front of the shop also is very friendly. They have great hospitality offering you pops and little things of that nature.One of the best things is the fact that they take card! Most barbershops don't.! What is cool is that this barbershop has lots of products that they sell in the shop as well such as beard balm and oil. Me being a bearded guy like trying many different products for my beard and being able to get them in my barbershop is great. How are reviews from 6 months ago+ popping up before more recent reviews? This wasn't even close to a 4.5 star experience. No lie, the space in corktown is awesome, but the overall service and experience was prettttttty awful compared to other shops in the area. Was greeted at the front and then told to go wait upstairs for my barber and that was the extent of the customer service that I experienced. It's now been a solid 20 mins at the time of writing this review and I haven't even been told "hey, your barber is running behind". I legit scheduled this because I work downtown and 75 being the nightmare it is made me rationalize going here vs going to Union barber. Huge mistake. This place is trash. Go to Union Barber, get better service and for sure a better haircut. That last part is a guess, maybe they cut hair better? I wouldn't know how this place does with a cut because I waked out after 25 minutes of waiting because *ahem* *mic tap* "this plaaaacccceeee isssss traaaaaaaassshhh". What a cute, modern, hip place of business! Love the vibe and decor--too bad my screaming kid messed up the relaxing ambiance. Our toddlers got their hair cut on the 2nd floor, next to a guy getting a steam facial wrap (so jealous!). They had booster seats but not really equipped for small children. The staff were so nice & patient even though we felt so stressed out about our kid bothering everybody. The bathroom was very clean and spacious. It was quick & easy to make our appointments over the phone. I was too cheap to pay for street parking right in front of the shop so I parked on the side street next to the White Castle parking lot. Next time we'll probably take our kids to a kids haircut place since those places have tv monitors and fun chairs. Not from Detroit, looked up barber shops in the area and this is the first one that came up, scheduled an appointment with Derick English, but apparently he was supposed to be off... staff worked things out and got set up with rich last minute, ended up paying $30 for a chop shop haircut. Went in looking for a taper fade, straight blade edge up and hard part on the edge up, ended up leaving with a high and tight military style haircut. Listed specific instructions and none of them were listened to. Did not blend the fade and spent little to no time detailing the cut. Would not recommend. read more

Best Barbershop in Detroit! From the barbers and staff, to all of the unique decorations, games, and overall feel, this is the place to go if you are looking for a new place to get your haircut. Both locations are great, but the Detroit location has the added benefit of a nice, simple coffee house inside. So, now I make sure to get there early and grab a cup before my haircut. Price wise, it's extremely reasonable for a high quality haircut, and very competitive with a unisex salon or high-end barber. The barbers take their time to make sure that you get the cut that you want. As long as you can communicate what you're looking for, they are very diligent, and take their time to give you the best cut you can get. As far as some claims of these shops being too "hipster," I don't know what to say other than it's a meaningless critique or complaint. The barbers and staff have "hip" and "stylish" haircuts, as you would expect from any business of this kind; but, it's not as if it's a snobbish club where you'll get dirty looks or poor service if you aren't the type to keep up with the latest fashion. Bottom line: this is a great barbershop that will do everything they can to give you the haircut of your dreams. Plus, it has the added benefit of having all sorts of old-school, restored, and Detroit themed decorations and games. It's very easy to make an appointment, and, since they are open 7 days a week, anyone can find a time that fits their schedule to get a top-notch haircut. It's an assembly line for haircuts and believe me there's human error when it comes to final touches on a haircut. There's like one good barber here that I saw. The haircut I received was not only completely uneven. My facial hair is uneven. They not only messed up on the length and made my hair way to short, they missed spots on my neck. I was also cut. Worst haircut ever. (Including the time my neighbor cut my hair) I was in the area on Friday around 5:00pm and happened to walk by the shop. It looked like a nice place and I needed a haircut. The building was nice inside. I walked up to the counter and they were able to get me right away. I was sent to Damen upstairs. He asked me how I want my hair cut told him a 5 with the clippers around the lower and sides and scissors on top to blend it in. I explained that I combed my hair straight back. He took his time and used all fancy sprays while he cut my hair. What I ended up with is a 3 on the sides and the top was cut irregularly and he styled it by combing my hair straight forward. He also "thinned" out the top (I do have thick hair) and now it looks like my hair is thinning and I am going bald in front. When my wife saw me, she said: "I thought you were going to the barber shop-not the butcher shop." Never again. read more
