It was our waitresses birthday too and she was amazing multi tasking! The food was pretty good. The shrimp bisque was delicious with plenty of shrimp in it. The salmon was perfectly cooked. The sides were decent and could've been seasoned a bit better. The green beans were plain so it was a bit disappointing. The drinks was delicious. I ordered the Tony Fu Manchu. Plenty of seating inside and outside when the weather is nicer. It's a good place to go on a date or group gathering. Wanted to give this place another try since the last time we went, we arrived at 7:40 and were turned away because they said that the kitchen closes at 8:00. Service was sub par. The server offered tots and brought chips. When asked, she said they didn't have tots, after she did. The Sauvignon blanc tasted like Chardonnay. When asked, she didn't offer to replace it. They brought in their own dog bowl and brought it back to the kitchen and serve kitchen food in it to the dog at the table! I assume this is a violation of state health codes. Stopped there by chance after visiting family In Niantic. It was 7:30 and the restaurant still had about 4 parties. It has a cozy feel to it and my sister and I grabbed a seat at the bar, looked at the menu and it blew us away. We chose to do several of the Asian fusion dishes from the tasting menu. And each one was better than the next. We had the French scallops which were cooked perfectly, the spring rolls which were big and tasty, the Wu Chow shrimp and the chop chop chicken Which I think was the best dish of all! So tasty. this place is definitely a destination stop to put on your list! The only down side of the evening was the bartender. She either didn't like outsiders or was having a tough day. she was curt, short and unfriendly. I mean cmon... we are sitting at the bar and you're not busy... what was her deal? All was fine after that, until the end of our meal where they strongly borderline rudely started clearing our table because they were closing. One of us asked for bread, did not get it for a long time, then when we asked if it was coming the waitress rudely answered "she didn't specify that she wanted it early." The main courses are quite expensive, so I opted for 1 small plate of grilled lamb chops with gorganzola sauce and a grilled Ceasars salad with chicken. The lamb was perfectly cooked and seasoned, and it paired well with what I found to be a mild sauce. The salad was a lightly grilled heart of romaine lettuce that was topped with ceasar dressing, parmesan cheese and the slices chicken. Great presentation and flavor. I was disappointed there was no lemonade. To me the water is undrinkable due to chlorine . . . a real shame considering the prices and quality of food. There's a 10% discount for paying cash, BUT, make sure you count your change. A personal peeve of mine is being short-changed, and that's what happened by $1.30. We were VERY excited to welcome Dev's into the neighborhood, especially with it not being another pizza place in town. We went during lunch time on Friday anticipating a dinner rush, so we only go the lunch menu, but the options were still great! They had Tapas for all tastebuds in their small plate section. I started with the Tuscan bruschetta and my husband got the potstickers and we shared. Both were very good! The potstickers came with an extra sauce with a little spice that truly complimented them well. I ended up ordering a chicken sandwich that had cheese,avocado aioli, a chicken cutlet and sautéed onions. It was absolutely delish! I do recommend maybe requesting a little aioli on the side because some parts that didn't have the aioli were a little dryer to eat with the bread and breading on the chicken. It was a great experience overall. I was super impressed with the building transformation. It made for a beautiful ambiance and environment. What a pleasant surprise! We were visiting the area, and just based on the menu selection decided to try this out. My wife had a nice salad with chicken, and I had a couple different smaller tapas-style plates, Sugar Salmon and Portabella Mushroom. We also shared the Toasted Goat Cheese crostini. Everything was absolutely delicious, just great combinations of flavors that really hit the palate well and worked very well together. The service was great (we sat outside; I had read it could get noisy inside and I agree), served by a nice and enthusiastic server. We topped off a great meal with the Black & White dessert; originally my wife was thinking it would be nothing special, but we both loved it! All in all a truly wonderful experience, one of the best I have had in years. No real negatives, except the possible noise inside if you don't like that, and a tony wait to clean our outside table. As a native New Londoner, Devs does so many things right and could be like a Hughies, a New London favorite. However, ways to improve are: There is an image online of an Italian salad with garlic bread, garlic, lettuce, tomato...New London style. Can you please bring that back? The flavor of the chicken picata was quite good but the pasta was broken into small pieces making it difficult to eat off a flat plate, it was not al Dante, not salty enough, and the sauce runny. The menu is complicated. It would be nice to have some basic Italian style food like a side of pasta with olive oil and garlic instead of trying so hard to be creative and international which is hard to succeed. I also wish they would have more simple cake and fruit desert options so one can linger with coffee after a nice meal. We want this restaurant to succeed in a neighborhood that needs a better restaurant scene dearly. read more

I made a reservation weeks before I went to Dev's for my birthday and when I got there they only had high top bar tables left which were uncomfortable and wobbly, with little space around them to the point that I kept getting knocked into by staff. Our server was nice but seemed stressed. If I had to guess it had something to do with frequently going into the kitchen and coming back out empty handed. I got a Sprite that tasted like the soda gun needed to be cleaned. My partner and I ordered appetizers with plans to order mains after, but that never happened because it took ~50 minutes for us to get our apps and it's not like other dishes were exactly flying out of the kitchen in that time. Once it arrived the bacon on my partner's burger was burnt, the burger was not medium like he ordered, and the house made chips were mostly soggy. I ordered a large red dragon noodle bowl which was a pretty small and flavorless soup. The price did not line up with the quality of the food. Hoping they were just having an off night but we were really disappointed with the whole experience especially because lots of people we know talked Dev's up. I went to Devs for a late lunch. My friend and I decided to try the house burger. This is the first time in the new location. Unfortunately, the medium rare burger and fries I ordered came extremely well done on a hard chiabatta like roll. The accompanying onions and blue cheese spread made for an unedible dry mess. I am not sure where to begin. I have been itching to try this new place out. The restaurant looks nice and clean. It is decorated well. The sign on the wall clearly states it's a Contemporary Mediterranean restaurant, and of course this is what we were expecting. Hmmm not much on the menu that is even considered Mediterranean. There are a couple of choices for entrees, but the prices are way up there. I wasn't in the mood to spend almost $30 a plate tonight, so I opted for a burger. It was "only" $16. What a mistake, we should have gone next door for the burger. The picture looks a great deal better than what it looked like in person. The burger may have been 1/4 lb at most, maybe before it was cooked. The Kaiser roll looked more like a flattened English muffin. The bacon was way over cooked. It didn't even include lettuce or tomato. The chips which were home made were burnt. The waitress did apologize, but I told her that it wasn't her who cooked it. She asked if I wanted the manager to come over and I told her if her manager really wants to know how my food was, then yes, I'd be happy to talk with them. Only the waitress came back with the $32 check for a hamburger, a romaine heart and a little cup of soup. So, clearly the manager was not interested. I almost forgot to mention that it took almost 45 minutes for our food. We almost walked out just before the food arrived. I was so hungry, we decided to stay. I guess we should have left. I am bummed as a year round resident, I was hoping this would be a great new place because there is not a huge selection of good restaurants in the area. Incredible Transformation The last time I was in Niantic, there was a franchise in this building selling 1000's of coffees and donuts. The building was obviously gutted down to four walls for the redesign of this beautiful upscale restaurant. Even though everything about the restaurant space is well appointed. The unusual and beautiful thing that caught my eye was the multi- toned stained wood ceiling panels. Unique and beautiful. I've been to Dev's twice so far and the food was excellent both times. My first visit was for lunch and I had the Genoa Italia Chopped Salad with a nice glass of wine. Mixed greens, cured meats, cucumber, tomatoes, roasted red peppers, provolone cheese, and artichokes tossed with Italian dressing and Parmesan cheese. A week later I went back for dinner. I began with a flavorful shrimp bisque soup. Then I had the Seared Salmon dinner. You can also opt for the small plates size if you're going to have multiple small plates from the menu. The salmon is sugar seared and served over mashed potatoes and topped with an avocado drizzle and micro greens. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the bartender that served me was attentive and friendly. Great new find. read more

We will not return, and in no way shape or form recommend anybody to eat there. Probably one of the worst restaurants we've eaten at. We would give this restaurant negative Stars if we could.... The food is horrible. My husband, who rarely complains about anything, was horrified when he saw the disgusting looking food that he didn't even finish it, and left hungry. He ended up driving to the other side of town and went to McDonald's....which was actually better than what we were served at Dev's.... that speaks volumes. We won't be returning to Dev's. I was hoping for the best in this place since she moved from New London to Niantic and still no results. Let me start by saying the food is way over priced. Not only is it over priced but the food is poor. I ordered these so called small plates of meatballs with literally 1 spaghetti wrapped around it completely burned, dry and salty. I can't believe they dared to serve this. I ordered the lobster bruchetta and the lobster was rubbery and the bread was soggy and tasteless. My husband ordered the NY strip and it was the kind you would serve at a diner with eggs. The steak was over cooked and had the grizzly fat still on it. The only reason I'm giving this 2 stars is because the waitress was wonderful. If anyone thinks this is good food then you obviously eat McDonald's allot.
