Every year it is a family tradition to come skate at our local park or Devon ice rink. Located near the Botanical Gardens in beautiful downtown OKC. We had a blast. The only issue is the ice is not smooth and you do have to watch yourself with small children falling down. I visited the ice rink at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, and unfortunately, the experience fell far below what I expected. The biggest issue was the lack of supervision for kids. There were children skating recklessly with no staff paying attention or enforcing any safety rules. It created a chaotic environment, and it honestly didn't feel safe for anyone trying to enjoy the rink. The customer service was also extremely disappointing. From the moment we arrived, the staff seemed annoyed and uninterested in helping. A few of them were downright rude, acting like answering simple questions or providing basic assistance was too much to ask. It really set a negative tone for the whole visit. The quality of the rink itself didn't help either. The ice was very uneven, full of rough spots and grooves that made it hard to skate smoothly. It felt like it hadn't been properly resurfaced in a long time. For a place that charges admission, I expected way better maintenance. Overall, the rink has potential, but it seriously needs improvements in safety, customer service, and ice quality. Until changes are made, I wouldn't recommend it and probably won't be returning anytime soon. read more

They needed to run the Zamboni so bad! There was a 6 inch 1.5 inch deep chunk of ice that people kept tripping on and another series of deep ruts that kept causing falls including my bf who hit his head when falling. And charging the same price for a small child as an adult Is wild, not to mention the extra $10/hr for the little penguin helper things. The vibe is cool but not when Blazers is better. read more

This was one of the best things we did in Oklahoma just after Christmas. It can get a little crowded so plan accordingly. The price was pretty decent. I think my family of four skated for maybe $25. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They have skates for you to rent. There is seating throughout the area. We skated for an hour. After skating or even before you can kill time by renting a lime scooter and smoothing around OKC. You can also walk around the Myriad Gardens. Dress in layers. read more

Sure it's nice even having an outdoor ice rink downtown, but this one is very small, has few amenities and can be dangerous. Ice is being kept too warm and puddling which leads to a lot of slip and falls. Besides being small and crowded, ice is uneven and rough especially around the edges making it tough ice for beginners to learn on. They are constantly squeegeeing water off, pushing it right down the entrance gate, so be careful coming on and off. Regarding lack of amenities, there is no storage or lockers for shoes and purses..No indoor or fire pit area to warm up at..All rental skates are stiff and uncomfortable hockey skates, no figure skates for us ladies. Expect chafing. Seating is okay for changing shoes/skates, but there is no good place to sit and watch skaters. Temporary bleacher seating is needed. Cost of admission has increased 50% over the past few years to $15. Imo $10-12 is more appropriate for the area. Renting a trainer (penguin) for small children is $10 an hour, too expensive. Parking nearby is usually difficult to find. There is a tiny booth with snack foods and hot chocolate, but food options are pretty weak. A couple of positives..It has gorgeous views of the downtown buildings. And bathrooms are clean-ish, not terrible. It would be so nice if they would open Park House next door for patrons to warm up and get some real food. They could definitely be doing things better, and safer. read more

Great location but an absolute racket regarding little kids. It's insane to charge the same price for an adult and a 5 year old. Then for $10 each extra you can rent a penguins to balance with. $48 for a 7 and 5 year old to skate for like 30 min. Then the staff act like they would rather die then be working there. When you try to turn in one penguins because your kid is tired of skating they say you can't until you are done with both penguins. They weigh about 50 lbs each, so have fun lugging them around. This is a place for teens and adults not little kids. I suggest going to a small town rink or indoor with littles. read more

The Devon Ice Rink has been an annual event in OKC for quite a few years, though I'm not sure how long. Tonight was my first visit ever and it's a pretty good time! We had kids aged 8-15 with us and they all really seemed to be enjoying themselves. We showed up on the last Thursday of the season and there was still a line to get in. We waited about 15 minutes to get to the ticket window. Once we got past the ticket booth we went around the corner to get our skates and I have to say they are in pretty bad shape. There were 4 of us in our group and 3 out of 4 had skates in need of replacing. The blades were fine but the boots were pretty tore up. The ice rink was super crowded and I am not a good skater so I had to use the wall to brace myself and just pray I didn't fall. The atmosphere is great, the music was great and as I mentioned above my group had a lot of fun. Everyone on the ice looked happy! I'd recommend going at least once. I can totally see this being a new family tradition! read more

Fun fun and more fun! We had an excellent time here at the Ice Rink! Unforgettable experience really ... We were greated with a smile at the register and given the arm band. Then our skate equipment check out staff was friendly and very helpful. Even gave us first timers a boost of encouragement. I definitely needed it as I was nervous I would fall and break a bone. (Didn't happen) the weather was nice and the rink pace moved well. This team/staff had monitors (people) on the ice and families seemed to be enjoying the moment. There was time for pictures and the scenery they have was aesthetically pleasing! They have restrooms that are easy to find and also a snack station in case you need something. They cleared the ice to groom it and it was nice to see the Zamboni do its magic. I can't say enough in my review how pleased I was with the visit. Great family fun. This was our boys first time to try ice skates and they really enjoyed it.

This was my very first time ice skating and I thought it was more difficult than roller blading. It took a bit of time before I got used to it. The ice felt a bit rough on the outer edges of the rink, which made it scary the first time I stepped in. There wasn't too much people when I went so it was easier to practice. The rink does feel a bit small, but I haven't been to any other rink so I can't compare just yet. The price is $12 which includes skate or $10 with your own skates. The military discount is $8. Some lessons that I learned for next time is: - Dress really warm! (Hat, gloves, etc) - Wear thick socks (my toes were freezing numb) - No lockers for shoes (just a heads up) - Parking was a bit hard to find - Have Fun! read more

The Devon Ice Rink is my favorite holiday event in OKC! Pros: The set up of the rink is quite adorable and the outdoor atmosphere is a plus for me. They have a hot chocolate stand and some seating to people watch. It's just fun to ice skate, overall. Cons: They do not have lockers or a place to put up your personal items and shoes. Also, I'm a little sad that they raised the prices this year; last year, it was $10 a person and now it's $13 per person. If you don't know how to skate, I recommend going on a weekday when there isn't a lot of people; that way you'll have more space to learn on your own pace. read more

This is a no frills rink. The outdoor atmosphere is very nice but crowded. Would be better if they had bleachers to sit on so you could watch the skaters from edge of the park. The equipment seemed well maintained and the cost for a group of 10 isn't bad at $80. I would definitely go again give the chance. read more

Clean, convenient, and fun! I love that they Zamboozle'd (is that the right term?) the ice before we got on. A lot of rinks don't take the time to clean up the ice and it becomes dangerous. They have a hot chocolate and coffee stand right by the entrance which is really convenient! There is plenty of room to take off your shoes & put on your ice skates. Not over crowded for a Saturday night. And I love the benches by the entrance to the rink for those of us who can't make it more than a couple rounds. As with anything downtown OKC, parking can be a bit of a beast, but it's hard to beat such a great view of downtown and all the other fun things setup for the holiday season. As someone who has skated in many outdoor rinks in mulitple cities, I rank this rink as one of the lowest. Poorly maintained, zero supervision of skaters, uneven ice (the Zamboni only makes an appearance every 2 hours) - not to mention the small size of the rink that can hardly handle the number of skaters that are present daily! You would think someone would regulate the number of skaters on the rink or at least OBSERVE what is happening on the ice. Instead, I watch in horror as children SIT in the middle of the rink with their hands leisurely resting on the ice, basically waiting to have their hands run over by skates. No one is skating in the same direction, children are falling all over the place, and the entire area is chaos! I also witnessed a skater bringing their grandmother in a wheelchair on the ice... Is this safe?? Really?? Simply having someone at the entrance to the rink would help avoid this kind of dangerous situation. This is the THIRD and FINAL time we have given this rink a try, hoping for a better experience. Each time my opinion has grown stronger. Please don't waste your time or subject yourselves to such a stress-inducing situation. I can hardly watch, let alone skate, at this rink. If you do decide to visit, go ahead and pay your whopping $12 per person and enjoy the "every man for himself" mentality at Devon Ice Rink! I see lots of people with smiles on their faces. I guess some enjoy unsafe & unfit skating environments OR they are simply too ignorant to know the difference. Dear Devon, please do something! I love this concept: outdoor rink with close bathrooms, indoor pop-up shops and a place to get warm drinks. However, this rink is pretty small and crowded, which wouldn't be a big deal except they didn't bring the Zamboni out the whole time we were there and the rink was nearly impossible to skate on in spots. It was not smooth at all and the parts that were smooth were watery and VERY slick. Despite all the bad, we had an amazing time. It was my daughter's first time ice skating and she had a blast. Also, it is $10 per person which includes ice skates and I feel this is a very reasonable price. It is fun to be downtown and ice skating in a nice area, especially outdoors. We will most likely be back but hopefully they will decide to use the Zamboni more often. I think that would make it better for everyone. read more

I'm only giving a 3 star because it's Oklahoma City and we don't have much competition. In any other city this would probably score lower ( 2 stars ) I really like the idea of outside skating rink downtown. It's a beautiful area and my kids enjoyed it. We went on Saturday afternoon and it was $10 a person. They did have a special skate all night till 8am and skate with hockey players this visit. but we didn't stay for it. They have a cafe and little hot dog and hot cocoa stand. They ran out of hot dogs so we ended up eating elsewhere. There was about 30-40 people mostly kids and high schoolers and some parents. The skate rink is a bit small. Reminds me of little ones you find in malls etc. Skates provided are the thick hockey type skates not figure skates and hurt all of our ankles from chaffing. The rink was melting and there was a lot of water so people were slipping and falling in the water and getting really wet. There's no lockers so shoes and belongings aren't safe and you will have to skate with your purse and phones. Overall kids lasted about an hour before it became a bit redundant and they were ready to do something new. They did offer we can come back anytime till 8 am with our wristbands and skate more without paying again. We chose not to. As an adult I wouldn't chose to come here with friends or on a date night. ;( read more

Last winter I visited the new ice rink, and literally had tears in my eyes at the progress OKC has made with its downtown. The Myriad Gardens paths, landscape, and overall ambiance was inviting, and the burst of light on the eastern side of the Gardens screamed "come play!" The rink was perfectly placed in front of the Devon tower becoming the little ant under its massive shadow. Obviously you'll be freezing cold when you go. That's kinda how it all works. It's medium sized so don't expect a massive ice rink. The bathrooms are super clean, nice and warm if you need to warm up a bit, and the shoes are easy to skate in. Go play, my friends! read more

The only reason I give it 2 stars is because I don't understand the point of making a reservation. I had a group of 20 and we scheduled a reservation a week in advanced and I told them that we would be getting there right at the time we scheduled and they said that would be fine. But then when we got there I told them who we were and they confirmed our reservation then very rudely told us to go to the back of the line. Like what's even the point of wasting my time to call and make a reservation!? And then two people in the group decided to just get in on a twenty dollar bill well they let the one who gave the money to them in but it took ten minutes for us to explain that he was indeed a part of our group. I understand that they probably should have just paid separately but the workers didn't have to make it so complicated. After that they wouldn't give those two people the right size in skates the acted like they didn't even hear them and would purposely give them the wrong skates. They didn't even us change for our money. Service was awful. The group did have fun, but the service was horrible. read more
