While staying at a flat around the corner, I stopped into the devonshire arms twice. Once for a few pints, and once for a meal. The pub is pretty standard, though a bit more upscale than (just look where it's located), with lots of beers on tap, wines etc. They even had a bunch of American brews (not Budweiser), if you are missing home or are a Brit looking for a taste of Sierra Nevada. The prices are half decent considering you're in Kensington/Chelsea. Pint of Guinness sets you back about 4 quid. The food was quite good and more upscale than a regular pub or a crummy JP Weatherspoons. They have delicious chips, and a nice array of "bar snacks" which can be had for cheap. Some reviewers commented on the clientele and that it's more upscale, with those drinking wine. While true, what do you expect in this neck of the woods? They have a beer garden which closes at 10 to avoid bothering those fancy neighbors. Overall, a solid pub. read more

Good food, excellent selection of beers, and very pleasant service. I recommend the mushroom, spinach, & onion tartlet as a starter (but good god man, ask for the accompanying salad's dressing on the side, it's ALL oil, gross!) and the asparagus-pea-mint-watercress risotto. That right there is really damn good! The sea bass is good too but it's moored in a puddle of creamy thick sauce so if you're watching your calories, maybe go for something else. Same goes for the risotto I guess! Service is very friendly and seating is first come first serve. It's really loud & echoey so maybe not the best place to come for relaxing conversation. A trusted friend. I have been coming to this pub, off and on, for quite a few years now and it never disappoints. It is rather quiet at lunchtime but serves a good variety of traditional and not quite as predictable dishes - mind you, the fish and chips win hands down every time. The selection of beers and ciders (three on tab!) is impressive, as is the wine list. The umbrellas in the beer garden are big enough to ward off a lighter shower. It has purple doors. read more

The Devonshire arms is situated a short walk from Kensington High Street tube station but isn't somewhere you would probably stubble across. Despite that, it can get very busy there on a Friday night and is a popular drinking spot for those after work drinkers. It's a nice enough pub and got a good atmosphere although the bar staff aren't the best in the world. They don't seem to serve people in order and pretty much serve those who shout the loudest. They serve food here which is pretty good although I wouldn't advise eating here in the evening when they are busy as that is when they seem to struggle. Lunchtime is quiet though so it's nice to have lunch here and the fish and chips are great!! In conclusion a good pub with the service being good when it's quiet but not very good when it's busy which is a shame. read more

The Dev is a great local boozer. It has a slightly funkier feel than other pubs in the area - the music's louder, the bar staff a little bit more "Big Issue"... This is a great place for a proper session. There are three areas - the main bar, the chill-out area (big sofas, etc.) and the garden. Whatever takes your fancy... There is a good beer (Pride, Doom + guest beers such as 4-4-2 during the World Cup) and wine selection, and the food looks pretty good. But I don't think people really come here for the food. This is a drinker's pub, and it shows. There is a certain wobbly charm about the clientele, particularly later in the evening, and you will get into some interesting conversations - especially in the garden, where the close-packed tables make it hard not to make new friends. I drink a lot in the area, and if I want a 100% guaranteed good night out, the Dev is the place. Every time. read more

This is a pub with a casual comfy atmosphere and good food. We ordered a side of veg (delicious), a caesar salad (adequate), and a fish sandwich (delicious). The cons were the fries that came with the sandwich was cold and the salad was really very average, barely o.k. We experienced friendly service but I did note the same staff being slightly huffy with other customers. This pub is on a road less traveled when compared to other nearby pubs so less tourists and more locals. Prices hover around £12 per plate. Adorable little pub in the heart of Kensington. It doesn't seem to matter what day it is or what time of day it is, this place is always buzzing with activity. They have an awesome beer garden, however the neighborhood rules force it to shut down EXACTLY at 10 pm. Super lame. But the inside is just as cute, and is a great hangout. Their beer and wine selection is typical of a pub. I haven't had the food yet, but the couple we were with said it is pretty good for pub food. Overall, great hangout in Kensington! read more

Can't say good enough things about this pub. We ran through the rain to get here the other night because the menu looked really good online. Our waitress informed us that the kitchen was just about to close (9pm-ish) so we quickly ordered a burger and some oven roasted chicken. The food was spectacular. Better than any other pub food I've had in the UK or elsewhere. Order the roasted chicken with fresh peas and roasted potatoes -- you won't be disappointed! Great selection of beers and wine, too. Upon arrival in London and we happened upon a cute pub down the street from the Kensington Marriott thanks to yelp and the concierge. Tried the fish and chips and butternut squash salad. Very impressed. Fish and chips were plentiful and very hot and crispy. Butternut squash was warm served over a bed of lettuce. The recommended pint of ale was delicious too. Nice for an afternoon pint and a catch up with a mate. Aspall's cider on draft goes perfectly with a hot pig roll fresh off the hog roasting in the front garden. At night it gets busy and there isn't really anywhere to move as you are fenced in the small front space. Staff could be better, more attentive and a smile is always nice! read more

My family and I stopped here for lunch very tired and very hungry after just arriving from the States. We were not disappointed. The ambiance was lovely and the burgers were so tasty! We finished our meal with a decadent and wonderful dessert of peanut butter cookie dough cheesecake with caramel sauce (my favorite part!). Definitely would come back! read more

Went to school in London back in the late 80's and lived just around the corner from this place. Devonshire Arms became our local hang out after school. From what I remember everyone was super friendly and we had such a great time. As for the food... Eh... Typical Pub food, but when I was 20 years old I didn't care too much about the food. ;) I'm currently back in London for work and plan on heading over there tomorrow to reminisce. Hopefully nothing has changes in 25 years. I'll updated this review to let everyone know how it went. read more

I think this place used to be pretty good. The Sunday roast was certainly good. I enjoyed it, but when I returned a few nights later the service was terrible. Bartenders buried, the beer taps broken. Also, sanitation is a problem. There were tons of fruit flies, dirty bathrooms and the bartenders were using straws to reduce the foam on the beer, but not using fresh straws, just getting their fingers into everyone's beer. It was pretty gross. There are better, cleaner places to go. read more

I went to The Devonshire Arms on Sunday and have to say it was an absolutely dreadful experience. I ordered the Sunday roast with beef. It was so overcooked that I could barely cut it and tasted abysmal. I'm not one to take food back but as I had chosen the most expensive meal on the menu I decided to let them know. I very politely told who I thought was the manager (the slightly older bar lady that was there) and she was unbelievably rude to me. First she snapped at me saying "well there is no other beef left, so what am I supposed to do." The entire time she was sneering at me and acting like I was being difficult. She then said "well what else can I get you" in a particularly surly tone. Due to how rude and uncomfortable she had just made me I said don't worry and went back to my seat and thought I would just eat the veg and that it wasn't worth the confrontation. The lady then stormed over and gave me a steak knife to eat my roast beef as what she thought would be a solution. She was more polite at this point because my boyfriend was there and we agreed that instead of trying to carve my way through this indigestible beef I would have the roast chicken instead. This then arrived and the chicken was so under cooked that I couldn't eat it. Soggy would be the word. I did not complain this time about the chicken as I couldn't be bothered with the hassle of having to speak to the bar lady / manager who had been in the corner glaring at me throughout the meal. At no point was the difference in the prices of meals offered to be refunded, and no one bothered to ask how my food was. Awful place, rude staff and drab atmosphere. read more

We absolutely loved this pub. It's really a combination neighborhood restaurant/bar with a pub feel. Lots of regulars and lots of tourists. Outstanding service. It's always complicated for Americans to order at British pubs since you order at the bar and the food is brought to you but this staff understands that Americans are sometimes clueless but they go out of their way to be welcoming. The food was excellent. We had two steaks with peppercorn sauce, fries, a salad and a cheese board for dessert. The cheese were a really nice selection ranging from a Cornish blue to a cranberry Wensleydale. The red onion marmalade and celery was a nice touch. Beers were solid. Ironically, we really loved the beer from the US--a Brooklyn IPA. An excellent dining experience. read more
