Used the free trial, scheduled everything online. George lead the Tues 7pm muay thai class was awesome. Started going right away, worked up a sweat. Great drills, hour flew by quick. Daniel ran the front of house. Very welcoming. Let me rent some gear as well. Facility is easy to find with plenty of parking. Interior is wide open, plenty of space and equipment. These guys are awesome. I took their classes for two summers, between being out of town for school. First, they're extremely newbie friendly. I had no clue what I was doing when I first stepped on the mat, and they made me feel right at home. It doesn't matter what kind of shape you're in, you'll work up a sweat in just the warm-up! They're fantastic at blending badassery, with realistic self-defense principles (i.e., in a real knife fight your best option is to run), with an awesome cardio and strength workout. They're also serious about safety-- they've always taught us the correct way to attack and defend without injuring our partner. I've been to both locations, and they're both fantastic. The beginners classes teach you fundamentals, and the instructor's choice classes are a great way to get introduced to new techniques. Choice classes can be anything from drilling kicks for an hour, to knife sparring, to an hour spent on situational awareness drills. It's a great way to mix things up between beginner classes. As far as the space-- the lobbies are comfortable, there's water and loaner gear available, and the equipment gets wiped down after class. Great workout, great instructors, and great self-defense training. I only wish they'd open a chapter in Boston! read more

This is the best place to go to get fit, learn how to protect yourself and gain confidence. The place is easy to find, very clean and roomy and the staff and students are great! It has much more of a family feel than an impersonal hour long class. Everyone there really strives to help you learn and not make you feel inferior if you're new. I have been a student here for 14 months (transferred from the Carrollton/Addison location) This is the real deal. Whether you want to learn effective self defense or just have an intense workout, you can find it here. The core of this school is Krav Maga technique for self-defense. The pace of the beginner (Yellow Belt or Level 1) classes is slow enough that anyone can participate regardless of their current fitness level or martial arts background. They offer a free trial to anyone interested- just sign a waiver and jump in, no appointment necessary. The Level 1 course is enough to establish a good basic level of unarmed self-defense technique. Relative proficiency in these basic reflexive techniques can typically be achieved in 3-6 months depending on the students abilities, background, training frequency and intensity. Level 2,3, and higher Krav begins to require an increasing level of discipline, conditioning, and athleticism as the students learn to use and defend various weapons and the combatives become more acrobatic in nature. The school also offers several intense conditioning classes that are mostly fighting based and generally follow the HIIT principles. No prerequisite fighting technique is necessary to be able to take these classes and they are always a good workout. There are combatives classes (ranging from Muay Thai to Boxing based focus) which focus on refining striking technique and keeping a high level of intensity (these are some of the most fun, btw). There are ground survival classes which range from 90% BJJ technique classes to more of an MMA style class while keeping in mind that the goal at this school is self-defense or escaping (no winning by points is taught here) Executive MMA and sometimes combatives classes can get into light-mid sparring with gear for those who so desire. The atmosphere is very welcoming and there are no ego issues that I've ever seen. The trainers' backgrounds vary from Muay Thai to BJJ to Karate guys who are running out of places to store their many black belts (cough - danny -cough) It's free to try so why not? Why did I choose to learn Krav Maga first rather than other martial arts? I guess you could say it's because it's just different from other arts such as the mainstreams ones like karate or taekwondo. And so I took a trial class at this gym because it was the closest to me in Dallas where I was able to learn a lot in one hour which consisted of different kicks and choke counters. It was a really fun experience and the other students there were not only friendly, but also very helpful. I signed up for the program. Moving on to logistics! Cost is 125 a month, but you're pretty much able to go to at least one class everyday and if you add 25 on top of that, you can even be involved in conditioning classes! Although I've never been in a conditioning class so far, just observing them is enough to make you sweat which is pretty good because the workouts are designed to keep you fit. The instructors are awesome! They are always encouraging during classes because they care and want you to strive for your ideal image. As I have mentioned above, the other students here are really friendly and are ready to help you if you ever have trouble with a particular technique. The classes themselves are very interesting varying from punches to chokes to knife defenses and even gun defenses! Expect to partner up with somebody in every class as it is a good method to practice different techniques and simulate situations with a live person. Instructors are really positive during classes and are always happy to give you pointers in how you can improve techniques. Overall, you are guaranteed to learn something new after every class and leave the building each day feeling a bit more both mentally and physically stronger. I have been a student for about 7 months so far and this place has been sort of a destressing zone for me which it can be potentially for you. I was super nervous coming to this gym being a smaller, young female, but I'm so glad I decided to go try it out (despite being scared) because this gym quickly became my happy place for the two months I was able to go. I can't say enough nice things about the instructors who are all so patient and helpful and make all the classes so fun! And the students are so welcoming and will give you tips and help you out if you need it! I definitely would recommend this for those wanting some self defense (especially females, this knowledge really is invaluable) because I feel so much more confident now in my ability to protect myself. I just came to this gym for a few months of self defense before going to school but am coming away with a new passion for krav, lots of friends that I'll miss going to classes with, and a gym family that I'm sad to have to leave behind. No matter your age, build, or gender, this place will quickly welcome you in and make you feel at home - I really can't recommend it enough!! read more

I really wanted to give these guys more stars because they are very welcoming, nice folks who obviously love what they do. That said, I received a serious arm injury during the free intro class that was completely preventable, if they'd slowed down and put a bit more emphasis on form over fun. I'm a rookie at this stuff, so I depend on the experts to help me on proper form and safety before moving on to things that'll get me hurt if I do them wrong. I understand that the focus of the free intro class is to entice people into signing up. So, the more "fun" it is, the more sign-ups, right? And it was a lot of fun, right up until I took an upper-body kick that bent my elbow backward in ways that it wasn't meant to bend. If I'd known the correct way to hold the pad it wouldn't have happened. Any activity that involves being kicked by a grown man (even with pads) should have been demoed to the class with a focus on the correct way to hold the pad before allowing us to attempt it. It would have taken 30-60 seconds, and saved me a ton of pain and weeks (maybe months) of healing. One other minor nit: It was difficult to understand the instructor. If you mic-up your instructors it'd be a lot easier to hear them. I want to increase my rating, so I intend to go back and try their program again when my arm heals, assuming I'm welcome. Judging from the people I met there, I expect I would be welcome as they seemed like good people who would be open to honest feedback. Edit 9/18/2016: Unfortunately my arm will need surgery to reattach a tendon, so it will be many months before I'll be able to try again. Edit 7/14/2017: It's been 10 months since the surgery and, while my my arm is still recovering, it's not the same and likely never will be. Although I initially wanted to give this dojo another chance, I don't feel comfortable putting myself in their hands again after what has been a long, painful recovery process. My advice to anyone choosing to go to the free class is to be very careful - especially if you're new to martial arts. Don't assume you'll get the necessary safety instructions to protect yourself during the class (e.g. how to hold a pad to take a kick). read more

this is one of the best classes i've ever taken for building my confidence to defend myself as well as fitness! i originally talked to Daniel and he was great at explaining how it all works in detail as well as telling me which classes i would benefit the most from being new to Krav Maga. i soon found Chelsah as my favorite instructor, partly because i'm a girl and she is too so there was an immediate comfort level that if she can do it so can i! and you talk about someone that is passionate about teaching and proper technique! did i mention how this is also the best workout ever. i was using muscles i didn't even know existed so make sure you stay hydrated so you don't cramp up the next day! so glad to be apart of the krav maga team! Krav DFW gives you a TON of bang for your buck. For a basic monthly membership, you get access to unlimited classes (within your experience bracket) at both of their locations, which gives you somewhere around 40 options a week. You could take 3 classes a day 6 days a week if you were masochistic enough to do so! It's extremely cost-effective. The owner is a great guy who is very down-to-earth and friendly, and all the instructors are experts in safety, conditioning, and their craft. Krav Maga gives you an arsenal of tools to use in real-world situations-- so you don't waste any time with moves that look fancy but won't save your life. It's a fantastic workout, too, incorporating cardio and calisthenics in addition to intense combative drills. Many people consider Krav to be the most 'effective' and brutal martial art there is, and I'm inclined to agree-- if you want to become a fit badass whose body could be registered as a deadly weapon, this is where you need to train.
