My boyfriends relatives were buried everywhere here. The Bloody Martels on his mommies side and his grandmother on his fathers. It required two trips to this cemetery to clear away the trees and shit in order to even see them! It also required driving through and near deep ellum which upset his mother when she saw that so many houses were gone(even her childhood ones) and the old theater was in shambles. The cemetery, however, was more charming just the way it was. There's something about headstones hiding in a forest primeval that appeals to me and makes everything you see divine.

The planning was navigated by the team but everything was at our convenience. No pressure but lots of grace. I have not dealt with many funeral homes but out of the 3 I have this one was by far the WORSE!…read moreThey were unorganized. The director was MEAN, RUDE and completely NON- EMPATHETIC! Every chance he got he wanted to argue with us about ANYTHING! To the point that even the lady that works with him had to tell him you did say that. I it upset him he couldn't charge us for that he decided to give me an extra transport charge that he NEVER not once mentioned until he couldn't charge was the other fee. In the end charging me 800 dollars in transportation fees. In between this and everything to follow I had to wait till after noon to do any business with them because the director don't answer the phones he just be mean to people in the background and the lady running things works at a daycare in the mornings. Then, we waited 2 weeks for the death certificate and it was a straight forward natural death. Come to find out( I heard the conversation with vital records) they hadn't requested the death certificates. Holding up the process with insurance, the cemetery and the other funeral home. I had been calling every other day asking for it. Finally we decided she would pay the fee to expedite getting the certificates (we paid for 5) and pay to overnight them to me since they were not in with my father when he was shipped. She was supposed to fax me a copy before she sent them off. Hours after they were picked up I got 3 cut off pictures of the death certificate and a picture of shipped partial letter that was arriving with my certificates 3days later. Obviously the other funeral home had to call her and get her to fax the copy of the certificate instead of the 3 cut off pictures. When the other director said you know we can't accept pictures in text she laughed and said yeah you're right. At this point we all were tired of dealing with them. It was a very horrible experience at one of the worse times in my life. I would NOT recommend this funeral home to anyone. Especially if you're looking for someone on their game with an empathetic heart. The director mean and appears to be very old. The lady running things is nice but appears to not know what is going on and ALL over the place. Not a good experience at all!!!!

Update to my previous review: SCI replied to my email, after…read moreI reached out more than once, to multiple people. I was not provided the Texas law that prohibited my sister's burial in our family space. SCI told me Laurel Land chose to impose requirements more restrictive than Texas's minimum requirements. SCI did not provide the actual written Laurel Land rule, contractual provision, or the provision in my grandparents' interment-right documents that required the descendants of deceased children to consent to Michele's interment. Furthermore, the 10-day notice was apparently never a solution to the plot problem. SCI was unequivocal about that. According to SCI, the 10-day rule concerns who has authority to make funeral/burial arrangements when closer next of kin fails to act. It does not cure disputed ownership of the interment right or allow the cemetery to use/transfer the space. Even if the 10 day public notice had been issued, we still could not have used that space to lay my sister to rest, per SCI. so, that begs the question, why were we even given that option? At this point it's a moot subject. We buried my sister at Restland without all the red tape. We are not able to sell the space either, so it will sit empty for the foreseeable future. But, I'm sure at some point in the distant future, SCI/Dignity Memorial/Laurel Land will flag it as "abandoned" and resell it to someone else. Lesson from this exercise is: If you purchase extra plots or have extra plots that were purchased by parents/grandparents make sure it is expressly stated in the documents with the funeral home or in a will, who those plots are for, especially using a funeral home that is under the Dignity Memorial/Laurel Land management, or you will not be able to use them without tracking down distance relatives that you haven't seen in decades.
