So first let me say the good: I placed a late, online order…read moreon a Friday for a friend's birthday. The Simply Gorgeous bouquet - Standard size for $100. Because they're not open on Sundays (the recipient's birthday) I had to have them delivered next day - which IS a short turnaround time, and the florist did actually deliver before noon on Saturday(!), which is an *amazing* turnaround time. The recipient LOVED the bouquet, said it was gorgeous and fragrant, and the flowers look healthy. I'm very happy about that. The bad: Now it's winter, and seasonal availability plays into the finished bouquet, period. I understand that, and Alice's even has a clear disclaimer about it on their order page. Cool. I added a request that no lilies be used in substitutions due to cats in the recipient's home. This request was followed. GREAT! Buuuut...the final product really doesn't look more than a passing resemblance to what I ordered. Yes, the same vase. Yes, yellow roses (different shade though), yes hydrangea, and spray roses, and pale pink alstroemeria are scattered in there. BUT an *overwhelming* percentage of greenery vs *actual flowers*. Whatever the season availability was, I expected a profusion of flowers dotted with greenery, per their picture. I've included photos of what I ordered vs what was received. Had it been less greenery and more flowers - as in the order page picture - I wouldn't be complaining here at all. They say "Although the actual bouquet may not precisely match the photo, its temperament will. Occasionally, substitutions of flowers and/or containers happen due to weather, seasonality and market conditions which may affect availability. If this is the case with the gift you've selected, we will ensure that the style, theme and color scheme of your arrangement is preserved and will only substitute items of equal value or higher value." But this isn't the same color scheme, it bears only a passing resemblance to the ordered bouquet, and it definitely doesn't look like equal or higher value. It looks like less. 3 stars.

Southbury Country Florist absolutely made my Mom's best friend, Rita's, birthday so special…read more The floral arrangement the owner, Kim Bova, created was gorgeous - fresh, full hydrangeas with beautiful seasonal greens and accents, arranged perfectly in a clear vase. It brightened up Rita's whole room the moment it arrived. The coordinating "Happy Birthday" card was so sweet and thoughtful, and she hasn't stopped talking about how pretty everything is. I purchased the beautiful birthday card, and the square on the card has seeds to be planted, and you soak it in water overnight, and place in a planter, cover with 1/8 inch of dirt, and it grows more flowers! I thought this was extra special so Rita can keep flowers blooming after the floral arrangement is long gone. From ordering to delivery, everything was smooth and right on time. It's clear they put real care into their work and into making their customers (and recipients!) feel special. I highly recommend Southbury Country Florist and I will definitely order from them again. My friend is an artist who had painted a stunning picture of his wife in a field of red flowers and another of a guardian angel for her when she was ill. Brenda took those two images and created an unique and beautiful tribute unlike anything I've ever seen -- 36 roses in a vase with a pair of wings. My friend was truly touched by the arrangement as well as the symbolism behind it. I cannot thank Brenda enough for her dedication and care for this job. The price was right, and she went above and beyond to get just the proper accessories for the flowers.
