Di Rienzo's was our final stop in Canada before heading back to the USA. What a great choice. The Italian sub was $6CAD. It had incredible fresh baked Italian bread, super high quality cured meats, and fresh vegetables and mayo. Literally the ideal Italian sub. Eat here and be happy. This family-run business has been around for over 20 years! This place was absolutely a go-to place for any kid 12 and under. They sold candies, lots of it. Affordable and fun items like those garbage-joke-card packs that came with gum, Fun-dips, Gold Mine or Thrills chewing gum. Fantastic place to buy a sandwich. They can make a sandwich faster than you can order a sandwich. Nice large, crusty buns, piled on with thick, juicy meats and other fixin's. The flavours can't be beat. If my mom had served me sandwiches like this when I was younger, I would have eaten a lot more sandwiches. Did I mention they usually cost less than $5? It's not an easy place to find since it's a couple blocks west of Preston Street, but once you find it, you'll most likely come back for more. It's best to avoid the lunch rush if possible because line-ups go out the door in this mom and pop grocery and deli. It has a strong community vibe and the staff are very friendly despite being incredibly busy. My favourite (vegetarian) sandwich is the Il Giardino. They also serve lasagna and various delicious pastries. If you're looking to eat right away, there's no seating in the deli, but you can sit at a picnic table at the park across the street. read more

I've been coming here for years and when I was young it was cheaper I feel the prices have been raised 6$ a sandwich they used to be 4.50$ but who's complaining with the economy today id rather support small local owned hard working businesses like this family owned one than a conglomerate. Absolutely amazing. The owner is very kind and you feel right at home when you enter. It is a small convenience store (not sit down), but they have excellent buns, sandwiches, and desserts! The cannolis are the best in town. They are comparable to cannolis in Italy. Very delicious, affordable, friendly service. After hearing about Di Rienzo's for years, but never having had the pleasure, I visited with my wife and daughter for lunch on a hot summer day. The storefront is modest and the shop itself is compact but efficiently organized for fast service. Once inside, select a pasta from the warming station in front of you (my daughter chose her favourite ... spaghetti and meatballs), unless of course you have your eye on the delicious-looking sandwiches you'll no doubt notice in the hands of hungry customers on their way out. In that case, enter the sandwich line-up to the left, choose one of the large white or whole wheat rolls and hand it to the kitchen staff, then select from one of eighteen sandwich varieties listed on the white board above the counter. Apparently #14 (soppressata calabrese, extra hot capicollo, prosciutto coto, Provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mustard) is very popular, and it did not disappoint, however I can't imagine that any of the choices would disappoint. The #14 might benefit from mayonnaise, oil or spicy eggplant (or all three) which you can request, but who am I to quibble with the specialists. Our sandwiches were large and the bread soft, stuffed with fresh, tasty deli meats and cheeses, which we thoroughly enjoyed under a shade tree in the park across the street. Made freshly right in front of you is a plus; the wait for them to assemble the sandwich is a (minor) minus, but then again - the anticipation just makes the sandwich that much better. : ) So far, I've only been here once for a quick lunch break. I had the cold cut sandwich, which they said was the most popular item. It was incredible! There was quite a bit of meat, and even pepperocinis for a bit of kick. We were visiting Ottawa for the first time and had read about this deli when we were researching the Ottawa area. We stopped there for a sandwich but were distracted by the delicious looking cannolis on the counter. We talked to the young man behind the counter and he told us a bit about the restaurant and a lot about the food. We ordered the most popular sandwich which he made to our specifications.
