Do you like sandwiches? DO you not like spending a lot of money? Do you not mind waiting in line? If you answered yes to these questions then Di Rienzo's is a great place for you. It's a little out of the way but it's worth a little extra walk. The concept isn't hard. You pick your bread out of a bin, you give it to the person behind the counter, they put toppings on and wrap it in plastic wrap, you give them a 5 dollar bill. And all of this happens within a minute or so. If you are very hungry (or need a snack on the walk back to your office) you can pay an extra dollar to get a tasty samosa. The bread is always fresh tasting, the toppings are generous, and the sandwiches are very large. You definitely get good value for money. They also have prepared pasta meals, I haven't tried any of them, but they look good. It's also a grocery store, they have lots of neat looking items (although the open plastic tubs of olives look pretty sketchy). Can't comment on the prices, but they seem reasonable. read more

Di Rienzo's was our final stop in Canada before heading back to the USA. What a great choice. The Italian sub was $6CAD. It had incredible fresh baked Italian bread, super high quality cured meats, and fresh vegetables and mayo. Literally the ideal Italian sub. Eat here and be happy. Amazing little grocer, always have fresh-made food whether it's packaged salads, homemade baked goods or hot samosas. The service is excellent, they are always so accommodating and put a smile on my face. The sandwiches are incredible, huge size for a great price. They're all incredible but my favourite is definitely the #8 ham and turkey. Unbelievable. I just showed up 3 mins after closing, running and out of breath because I had been craving a sub. They saw me anyway and the young man unlocked the door, let me in, didn't rush me AT ALL and happily made my sandwich, despite being closed! You can't NOT support these guys, they're the best. After hearing about Di Rienzo's for years, but never having had the pleasure, I visited with my wife and daughter for lunch on a hot summer day. The storefront is modest and the shop itself is compact but efficiently organized for fast service. Once inside, select a pasta from the warming station in front of you (my daughter chose her favourite ... spaghetti and meatballs), unless of course you have your eye on the delicious-looking sandwiches you'll no doubt notice in the hands of hungry customers on their way out. In that case, enter the sandwich line-up to the left, choose one of the large white or whole wheat rolls and hand it to the kitchen staff, then select from one of eighteen sandwich varieties listed on the white board above the counter. Apparently #14 (soppressata calabrese, extra hot capicollo, prosciutto coto, Provolone cheese, lettuce, tomato and mustard) is very popular, and it did not disappoint, however I can't imagine that any of the choices would disappoint. The #14 might benefit from mayonnaise, oil or spicy eggplant (or all three) which you can request, but who am I to quibble with the specialists. Our sandwiches were large and the bread soft, stuffed with fresh, tasty deli meats and cheeses, which we thoroughly enjoyed under a shade tree in the park across the street. Made freshly right in front of you is a plus; the wait for them to assemble the sandwich is a (minor) minus, but then again - the anticipation just makes the sandwich that much better. : ) So far, I've only been here once for a quick lunch break.
