Fish and Chips w/tarter and lemon

In the past I'd come here for breakfast. That was fine for what it was, until the restaurant pulled the special. ... Yesterday was Canada Day and I had toured the Byward Market a couple times trying to decide where to eat. .. I was hungry, so I opted for Dunns. They had a limited Canada Day menu, so I ordered the fish and chips. Let's just say that I won't make that mistake again! I also won't permit Madyson to serve me anymore, as she was more interested in attending to the family table beside me. Not once did she check with me to see if I was happy with my meal - which I wasn't! There is barely any fish inside that crunchy batter. Fries were OK, but still - $21 for OK fries and mediocre fish. The only reason I ate it was because I was damn hungry. Normally I would have returned the order! I expressed my feelings with Madyson when she delivered the bill. I still paid, however, NO TIP!! Everyone who put that order together and delivered simply couldn't DO IT. Now, I don't hate the restaurant, but I wasn't happy yesterday.

Smoked meat eggs Benedict eggs are sunny side Up its my preference instead of poached.

The Famous Dunn's....... It lives up to its reputation. I had the smoked meat Benedict. Served on a bagel it was a nice touch. I'm coming back tomorrow it was so good! The waiter was very polite and nice, service was quick and precise.

Stopped into Dunn's a few times while staying at the Marriott Courthouse across the street in October. First time in, I was with a group of 10 for lunch. Service was friendly. Most of the orders were filled correctly. If not, they were adjusted accordingly. I had the Reuben with fries and gravy which came with no gravy. They brought it eventually. The sandwich was pretty good. It looked to be thrown together with the meat and toppings anything buy evenly distributed within the slices. That seemed to be a theme around the table. My second visit was at 2:30am after a bit of drinking. The breakfast poutine sounded amazing at the time, and tasted amazing at the time. I'll try not to do that one again. My third time was at midnight. A few tables were occupied and we sat at the bar. Service was good, as was my Bizou Bizou burger. Recap - This is not a health-food joint. The flavors are solid and the portions are pretty good for the price. Not a cheap eat, but better than fast food.

Was hesitant since the place was empty. But the food was phenomenal! Especially the smoked meat sandwich! Also upgraded my side order of fries to the smoked meat poutine (best decision!!) . We also ordered their spicy crispy chicken burger and added a second patty. So delicious! The service was also great. And if you've never tried this place, YOU'RE MISSING OUT! Left to come back to Toronto and I've been thinking about that sandwich and poutine ever since!

After a more than terrible night at the club, a few of us wanted to do something to replace our memories of earlier on in the night, so we came to Dunn's at around 2am. It was packed with people, mostly from the bars. I had never been to this location before and it was actually quite large. We were seated right away and I have to say that our waiter was fantastic! He served us quickly, and was very friendly and funny throughout the whole time we were there. My friend and I ordered their breakfast. She had two eggs sunny-side up, with whole wheat bread and ham. I ordered my eggs fried, with rye bread and bacon, and I substituted my home fries for poutine. I didn't realize that my fried eggs weren't sunny-side up like my friend's, and I was kind of disappointed, but it was my fault for not clarifying. My friend's ham seemed like sliced deli ham that was heated up in a pan, but my bacon was thin and crispy. My poutine was made with home fries instead of fries, and was actually quite good. The breakfast plates also came with an orange and kiwi slice, which was great to cut the grease, and we ordered whole pickles on the side.. just because. My boyfriend ordered a club sandwich, and it came with fries - a lot of fries, that is. He ended up just being all about the fries and took the sandwich home.. which we are currently eating right now, the morning after. It's really tasty now, and it definitely would have been even better last night. The only problem I had was the washrooms. The stairway alone smelled like pee, and the stall doors didn't even close, much less lock. Another girl even waved to me through the space in the door while I was waiting for a stall to be free, since two of them were already occupied and the third one looked like someone's butt exploded. Big EW.

    Montreal Smoke Meat(Fat/$6.99)

Recommended as the Late Night fill-er-up destination this 24-hour Deli had it's share of rowdy sketchy drunk passer-bys which didn't make sense for the staff to sit everyone at the corner while windows-open so disturbing idiots can ruin good meals for customers. Yes, it's a good space to people-watch but not all people are worth watching. The Dude staff was quite friendly while I notice the Lady was less so. Good thing the Dude waited on me and no harassment as to why I only ordered one item on the Menu or why I opt for Tap Water. I gave him the proper instructions and off he went to retrieve my Food. I did however wish the Food came in a bigger dish as my chowdown had Meats & Pieces flying every which way and I didn't want to recover the bits from a potentially dirty Tabletop. Montreal Smoke Meat(Fat/$6.99) That's correct, I asked for FAT selection of the Montreal Smoke Meat. The Fat dribbling down my mouth with the savoury flavours of the Smoke Meat making me go back bite after bite. At that price, it's worth it's weight in Canadian Dollar($). That'll be Loonies not Bills.

I was staying at the Le Germain hotel for a work conference last week and wanted a bigger breakfast than what was provided in their 'included' one, so walked here two days in the frigid cold. There is nothing special about the place, but I knew it would be satisfying and filling, and it was. Their breakfast menu doesn't seem to be on the website for me to check prices, but had the breakfast club one day, and their eggs benny on a bagel the other day. Both were decent, with side of home fries. Friendly service. I was the only customer one day, and the 2nd customer the other, quite early in the morning though. Atmosphere wise, the place is just a mid-large sized almost sports bar feel with basic tables & booths. Large menu that could please anyone.

So I have heard many comparisons of Markie's to Schwartz's in Montreal. Although I would say that…read morethe smoked meat at Markie's is good, it is not Schwartz's good, lol. So I got the Combo #1 which is a jumbo smoked meat sandwich, fries, coleslaw, a pickle and a can of pop for $15.99. I like that the meat was lean, but it didn't have that firm texture that I like with smoked meat, it had a more deli meat texture. Nonetheless it was flavourful and smelled delicious. I wouldn't describe the sandwich as jumbo, but it was an ok size, not small. The rye bread was fresh and the amount of mustard on the sandwich was acceptable (not too much, but not skimpy). I really enjoyed the fries, which were really crispy. The coleslaw was regular mayo-based coleslaw. Service was friendly. There are a few tables to dine in. This location has been many restaurants over the years. Prior to Markie's it was a Greek place called Babinos (which was so good, I was disappointed that they closed), and prior to that it was a sandwich shop called Robz (was meh IMO), and prior to that it was a Chinese takeout joint called Ho-Lee-Pow (never tried), and before that it was a location of the famous Chinese takeout chain Ho-Lee-Chow (didn't need to try, lol). It's been 5 different places over the last 13 years. When I started writing this I thought the turnover was high, but now that I think about it, I guess it not too bad. The location is in a strip mall with a few other food places (Mr Sub, Gabriel Pizza and Shish Kabab House). Lots of free parking.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. We were staying in Byward market area. Then I found this place - highly reputed among locals for its sandwiches using high quality deli meat and condiments from eastern Europe. They are open at 9am! Perfect! Nice little deli with one table in the store. Take-out spot. We got the following: # Turkey sandwich: Thick cut, generous turkey slices (taste like actual tender turkey breast) with lettuce, pickle, tomato, mayo, mustard, and roasted red pepper spread. Paired with smoked cheese slice. It was DELICIOUS. What set this apart from other sub/sandwich places is the use of roasted red pepper spread. It is a game changer. Bread (Kaiser) is fresh, crispy on the outside, slightly sweet and light interior, perfect for the rich meat slices. # Schnitzel sandwich: Pork schnitzel topped with sauerkraut salad and served on a toasted Kaiser. This was a bit disappointing - the schnitzel was very hard and dry. However, the sauerkraut salad and again, the roasted red pepper spread was perfect accompaniment. # Homemade Vienna cheesecake: Delicious!!! $2.99 per cake, homey taste. Fresh and light, with a hint of orange. Although I expressed negative for their schnitzel this time, I still want to rate 5. Affordablity, quality of cold cuts, selection of bread and choice of toppings and seasoning, and pleasant and efficient customer service- they do have something very special that I really want to recommend here highly. You can also build your own for $13.99 where you can choose 2 meats, one cheese, and whatever vegetables you like. We went with the build your own option. We got roast beef and prosciutto cotto, fresh mozzarella and lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, pickled onions, pickled eggplants, and roasted red peppers, with a bit of honey mustard. The sandwich was really good. The bread was fresh, as were the other ingredients. It was a bit pricey in my opinion, but this is in comparison to other similar sandwich shops with $8-10 sandwiches (like 50 Two Sandwiches or Shorty's Sandwiches), but they are in industrial parts of town, so I get it, rent in Hintonburg is higher.
