I am puzzled by all the negative reviews for this practice. My special needs son was seen as an emergency case due to the fact that our longtime dentist, Dr. Solomon and oral surgeon, Dr. Liu could not figure out the cause of his facial swelling. Dr. Abraham Hsieh squeezed us in on a very busy Monday so he could confirm the diagnosis. I appreciate him doing this for us since my son was in a lot of pain and we weren't sure why. We have seen Dr. Hsieh a handful of times (both in Walnut Creek & San Ramon) with great results. He correctly diagnosed my son's parotid gland infection and was extremely gentle while performing an in-office needle biopsy. As for logistics, he is mostly punctual, returns phone calls in a timely manner and the staff is friendly/pleasant to work with. Furthermore, Dr. Hsieh helped us get into radiology for a last minute CT scan in the same week. Highly recommend. read more

I had an AMAZING experience at my appointment today! Dr. Murphy was so insightful and helpful in regards to my throat issues. The staff were wonderful, kind, and caring. They noticed I was coughing and provided me with some water. They were all so kind, and I noticed how they all helped each other out, whether it was answering phones, or helping us patients, they surprised me on how hard they work. I recommend this office and Dr. Murphy 1,000 percent! I read some of the other reviews, and it sounds like there are many entitled people who seek attention versus being humble and appreciative of the doctor's and staff's time. We can't expect a doctor to drop everything just to attend a patient who calls every 2 minutes. Lets be realistic. And if you are not happy with the service, then my advice to those people is: don't come back and move forward with life. ;) read more

Reading all these reviews almost scared me away. But I'm so glad I went. This place is awesome! Yes, you have to wait for the doctor sometimes. But once you are seen they do an excellent job. Dr.Scott is a phenomenal doctor. He is caring and empathetic and hears his patience. My mother has been undergoing vertigo, and Dr.Scott listened to her and found the solution to heal her. The level of patience he showed to my mom and me was just amazing that I had to leave a review. Also, the receptionist and nurses were just as impressive as him. I wish I had read the reviews on Yelp before signing up with this office. The staff is brusque and disrespectful. Some of the folks answering the phone speak so rapidly you cannot understand them, and are very rude. (Just for perspective, I am not a wobbly old codger who can barely stand, I am a practicing tax attorney who would never treat a client that way). During my last phone encounter, I did confront the staff person about that. Out of compassion I will not mention her name here but I was sure tempted. When you can get Dr. Murphy's attention, he is a decent ENT doctor and I appreciate some of the advice he's given me. But I had to leave messages for him three times and mention that I was thinking about complaining before I got a response to a serious and time-sensitive question. It's crazy that I'm saying this, but some of the charges (for services of dubious value) are crazy high, so crazy that I actually found myself feeling sorry for CIGNA. read more

I recently had surgery by Dr. Scott to decrease the swelling of the turbinates in my nose. I ended up with pregnancy related chronic rhinitis, making the turbinates stay swollen 24/7. Many women have this happen during their pregnancies, but soon after the baby is born, the turbinate swelling goes back to normal. In a rare percentage, the swelling stays. So for the past 3 years, I've been unable to breathe through my nose. I finally did my research, called and made an appointment. Turns out, this procedure only takes 10 seconds!!! And it was done in-office with Dr. Scott. The numbing of my nose took longer than the actual procedure. I'm still in my 3 week recovery period, but as of tonight, I can BREATHE for the first time in 3 years!!! I am stoked! I love the customer service over the phone, at the receptionist desk, while filling out forms, billing before and after, and most importantly the customer service and client care that Dr. Scott provides. I have panic attacks with any kind of injection/blood draw/medical procedure. Dr. Scott handled me with gentle care start to finish. He brought me tissues and water after, helped me to breathe/distract me during, cracked jokes to get me to laugh, reassured me I did well, etc. I truly admire his demeanor and personality. He has a down-to-earthness about him, very good listener, attentive, answered every single question I had, never rushed me, and was quick to call me back same-day, day before Christmas Eve, when I had a question post-surgery. I HIGHLY recommend this facility due to their prompt, professional care, wonderful customer service, easy scheduling/payment, and location. My disabled adult son's pulmonary MD referred him to Dr. Murphy here at the new Shadelands office. We went in early, but when they heard my son had both Medicare and Medi-cal they refused to see him. Offered to pay cash but the gal said "No, he's covered under a Federal program, I can give you the number for the county." We felt a little less than human going out, took the morning off from work, what a pain. Never got to see the doc, he may have been wonderful, will never know. read more

This is the 2nd time I've been at this office. I was hoping the 2nd time would be a better experience but I was WRONG! I don't know why people are giving them 4-5 stars. The receptionists at this practice were very indifferent and they could care less with how you're feeling. Kind of reminded me of robots in an assembly line. When I asked who I was seeing they said I will only get the hearing test (audio tech) and see a nurse. Concerned, I asked why I won't get to see the doctor, they ASSURED me over the phone (another no no to say to patients when you don't even know what is wrong with the patient) that the ringing in my ear and muffled hearing will be cured. These were the exact words. "She will be okay to see and she will be able to CURE you". Foolishly, I proceeded to book my appointment. Now, I may very well loose my hearing because I was told that only had 1 week left to try to treat it before my condition becomes permanent. Geez!! Maybe if they booked me sooner, there may have been a higher rate to treat my condition. Amazingly, for a practice that can't see you sooner, the place was a ghost town. I was also disappointed that a PA (she looked like she recently got to of school) was the 1st care provider you will see. She may be knowledgable but the lack in clinical experience makes me very concerned especially when you risk losing your hearing. Be very very careful in selecting offices to care for you. Be your own advocate especially when it comes to your hearing. Having said this, take the time and effort to find practices with a very good track record for patient first philosophy with genuinely have a sense of urgency to see and care for you. I was skeptical about going here after the bad reviews but this is where my doctor referred me to so I went with his suggestion. I got to my appointment 15 minutes early (suggest for first time patients) and hand in my forms (I was able to download all forms and fill them out at home vs doing them in the office) and was called back into a room within 10 minutes. I waited about 10 minutes in the room and then Dr. Murphey came in, introduced himself, did some tests on me, explained the anatomy of the ENT area and gave me a prescription. I followed him out and I was on my way. All my questions were answered and it was a great experience. read more

Can you believe this! My husband went to one physician in this group and he was cold and uncaring! So we called to change physicians in the group, now same group would would get the money, after 7 phone calls later...and 7 different answers, I finally received a "we cannot change physicians within the group "! The doctors are good, helpful and explain things well, but the office staff is poor customer service, poor scheduling, poor follow up and doesn't understand how to provide timely help. It took months to get equipment for a sleep study. One unit didn't work, but rather than giving me a replacement they said, "oh, we have data on the other unit so it should be fine. We'll call you with the results." Over 30 days go by, I don't get any calls back to my voicemail. I finally write to the doctor who calls me and explains the test was inconclusive so another night on a test unit is needed. I've tried to get another unit and after being placed on hold am told "our scheduler is busy, so I'm going to put you in her voicemail and she'll call when convenient." I'm still waiting for that call back. If you can get to the doctor's, you'll have a good consultation. But dealing with the office staff is like running through a never ending maze. A strong office manager who can teach customer service skills and efficient planning would improve this practice. read more

I scheduled a follow up appointment w/ Dr. Murphy after being operated on. I was in the waiting room for 15 minutes then in one of the rooms for another 30. I simply left after no one came. They need better staff and doctors who don't have God complexes. I complained and Dr. Murphy could have cared less. He was upset b/c he thought I owed it to him to be thankful to him for the treatment he provided for me in the ER. I was thankful but get your business in order and again, don't have a God complex. This doctors office messed with my billing and I have been trying to get in contact with their billings department since May 9th. I have called 8 times over the last 3 week weeks and still not been able to speak with the billing department. Not once since I have tried to contact them has this doctors office returned any of my messages. It is the most poorly run front office I have seen. This doctors office always ask me to pay prior to being seen and requires me to pay in full for any additional procedures even though its covered under my insurance plan. They will then bill my insurance company and put a credit on my account rather than refunding me. I would highly recommend finding another ENT doctor. read more

First impressions weren't great. The front office staff was abrupt. There were many people waiting for an appointment. There was some less friendly than appreciated dialog about what pharmacy we use. The actual appointment ran about 30 minutes behind, but the doctor, Dr Scott, was easy to talk to, and answered questions in enough detail for our needs. Front office staff was much more pleasant on the way out. Also - larger people take note, all the chairs have arms. I got bruised. I have never felt the need to leave a yelp review until now. They said my son needed ear tubes. When scheduling his surgery a week out (5 business days) they did not tell us on the phone about the cancellation policy (5 business days). All we wanted was a second opinion. Due to circumstances (our 2nd opinion cancelled on us, no problem so we thought), we tried to postpone his surgery for a later date (calling on a Thursday before his next Wednesday surgery date). We had all intentions of rescheduling. I just wanted to make sure that my son needed the surgery and my second opinion had to move the appointment. I was stuck. I needed some help from Diablo Valley ENT. Help is the last thing I got. They did not even try to listen to our circumstance. As I mentioned, I was treated like a dollar bill and that is all. I am a man of my word. If I sign a document that highlights the cancellation policy, I will pay - and I did. The money is not the issue, treating people like people is the issue. Stay away from this place. Ask your doctor for different options if you are sent here. Very frustrating experience (Walnut Creek office). If you want to be treated like a number and a dollar bill, then this is the place to go. They only care about your money. And that is not the type of care I want my 1-year-old son under. I don't know why but it always seems like reviews for doctors are only ever complaints and never anything positive. It's like happy people don't bother with posting anything and the unhappy ones just vent their frustrations online when they can't seem to solve all their medical problems. Well we have had nothing but positive experiences with Diablo Valley ENT. My family has been both Dr Scott and Dr Hsieh and both times they have been extreme helpful and knowledgeable. Did they solve our problems instantly? No, but they got us on the right path of treatment and we are extremely thankful for that. I had my sinus and deviated septum surgery done here and Dr Murphy honestly did a great job with minimal pain and bleeding. I continue however to have recurring upper sinus infections and as a result my Allergy doctor requested another followup. I got another MRI and even stopped off on the way to the appointment to pickup the Scan CD. I made the appointment 2 weeks in advance. I was offered 2 times and picked the later time. Admin clearly booked it at the earlier time 30 minutes before the agreed time. I arrived for appointment 7 minutes early. Staff however was extremely rude. I don't mind waiting for other patients given the screw up but to be guilted and told that I was wrong is extremely insulting as a patient. I'm very organized and always enter my appointments in my phone at the time of making them. Will never be back. read more

I believe this place lacks some professionalism from receptionists to accounting department. My experience with the doctor was OK. I am still wondering exactly how do they do their accounting. I made way more payments then the actual number of visits and still I was contacted by a collection agency and I was penalized for late payment which accounting department refused to reimburse. In fact, by their own admission once they overcharged me so they owed me some money for some time. I am pretty good at paying my bills in full and on time and just to give some idea my credit score has been hovering around 800 for past 4-5 years and around 750 for several years before that. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They need to get their act together. read more

When I called for an appointment, I wanted to see doctor Dr. Scott because my husband had seen him, liked him but he was booked way out, the receptionist recommended Dr. Hsieh. I was being seen to find out if I had sinusitis. I have what is called phantosmia, which is an olfactory hallucination of scents, mine was cigarette smoke, for 9 months and it was time to find out what was causing this, one reason could be from sinus issues or a brain tumor. I sensed that he had never heard about phantosmia, that was a bit odd given he is an ENT. Dr. Hsieh told me that my sinuses looked clear, next step MRI to see if there was indeed a tumor. MRI done and oddly enough I instantly became very ill with a major sinus infection caused by the magnetic force of the MRI stirring it up. I called the office immediately for an appointment, they didn't have anything available for a week and a half, way too sick to wait, left message for the doctor to call me, no call back. I downloaded my MRI, sent it to my radiologist friend in the Cayman Islands, thank god no tumor but indeed sinusitis, plus a deviated septum with spurring. Had to visit the ER, after ten days of antibiotics the sinus pressure returned. I went to the office to drop off CD and make a follow up appointment, two week wait again, a month later I see Dr. Hsieh. First off, the front office lost my MRI CD and never gave the doctor my message to call me, thank god I don't have a tumor. Second, he never saw the MRI, he had the results given to him from the radiologist at the MRI office a month earlier, he knew I had sinusitis and never informed me or prescribe me antibiotics. There was no reaction to the lost CD, the ER visit, the message not given to him or the fact that I had to have my radiologist look at my MRI. However, he checked my sinuses again, he said no fluid but prescribed me 14 days of antibiotics because the smell returned and sinus pressure. I asked about the deviated septum because that could be what is causing all the problems, he said it's an elective surgery, he didn't seem concerned and made me feel like the whole issue was no big deal. Finished meds, sinus pressure is back along with the smell, its a guarantee that I will not be returning to see him, I am not sure I believe he would know what to do next. Needless to say, I saw another doctor for the deviated septum and what a difference in medical care. He referred me to a specialist about the sinus problem to find out if the septum is causing all of this because the phantosmia is a serious problem, he knew what it was by the way, that was reassuring. I am curious though if the front desk found my MRI CD. Bottom line, I wish I had waited to see Dr. Scott, maybe I would have a solution to all of this. read more

I booked a speech evaluation for my son 3 weeks or so in advance. The morning of the appointment they called to cancel because they do not see children. I had care for my infant, my husband had taken time off from work, etc. I was confused, but reasonable with them and polite but they were extremely rude and defensive from the start of the call. The woman interrupted me with a rude tone "but what is he being seen for" "yeah we don't do that". And this was the day of the appointment! Jeanie Roder was listed on our insurance as a Speech Pathologist, and I would have understood if they'd passed when we called; I'd explained what the appointment was for when I made it. . I told the woman she didn't need to be rude but she needed to understand the office had made a big mistake with a big impact for me and my family. She just kept repeating it was "another girl's fault" and not her fault. Wow. read more

Maybe I shouldn't rate them yet but my copay is 50 bucks a pop when I walk in this place. I went once in January and saw Dr. Scott for my chronic nosebleeds. Whatever he did he made a bad problem 100 times worse. Now if I bend over, cough, sneeze, blow my nose, touch my nose or do nothing at all, my nose will bleed. It wakes me up at night, I will wake up with a nosebleed for no reason at all. It was bad before but it never bled for no reason at all. I went back this afternoon and saw a PA. I do did not care as long as they fix my nose. My appointment was at 1pm. When I arrived the office was locked so I had to stand outside, not cool. By the time I got home I had my first nosebleed of the day. As I write this review my nose is packed to stop the bleeding at 11:45pm., so this is my 2nd nosebleed of the day. All I did was sneeze out my mouth as instructed and it started to bleed. I have spent 100 bucks on my nose so far and it's not under warranty so if I go back to these people it is going to cost me another 50 bucks and there is no guarantee it will work. I feel like I should have gone back to the doc I went to for the other side of my nose when I had a problem with bleeding on that side. Since that doc did his work I haven't had a problem and he did the procedure once. Only problem is he is no longer on my insurance. So I'm stuck with these guys. I'm going to call my primary tomorrow and get another referral to a completely different office. This is not a livable problem and it's not something I'm likely to outgrow since I'm nearly 50 years old. How much skill does it take to look up someone's nose, see where it's bleeding and stick a swab with liquid nitrogen up there? I realize the nose is full of blood vessels, but for crying out loud, you should be able to see the problem or make an educated guess where it is. She didn't even hardly stick that swab up my nose. I could have told her that the problem is further up, but ever try to tell a doc his business? I'm pissed because I literally have to get up in the middle of the night, every night to stop a nosebleed and I'm not talking about a little nosebleed. Some of them will last 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Since I went to this office the problem has been aggravated and I'm afraid today did not help things. I don't know what their problem is. I'm going to call the doc I saw before that's not on my insurance and see how much it's going to cost out of pocket to see him. He at least will fix the problem. I can't afford to be shelling out 50 bucks a visit to have a problem made worse every time I go in. I would rather one big hit and have it be done. Sorry about the length of this review. I thought the service was very good. I liked the ability to download the patient forms and fill them out in advance. I arrived a bit early and waited about 20 minutes to see Dr. Scott. He was pleasant, explained what he planned to do, and answered all my questions. It seems like the practice is reasonably well run and efficient. I would see Dr. Scott again. read more

My 7 year old son had surgery for severe sleep apnea and he still snores. For the last 4 weeks I have been following up every week for sleep study referral. The staff is very rude and is not helping me. I wouldn't recommend a facility with unhelpful staff; no matter how good your doctor is. read more

Follow thru from the staff is non-existent! I went in for dizziness and balance issues. Was able to get in within a reasonable amount of time. Dr. did a reasonable exam and said I needed further testing at their sight in Walnut Creek. After requiring me to get a COVID test ( even though I had both vaccinations months before) I finally got the testing they required. After 2 days of calling the office they said nothing showed up on the test and that I needed Vestibular Physical Therapy. That was on a Friday. Nobody contacted me until I called them the following Thursday. The office staff said they faxed the PT last Friday but they would fax the order AGAIN. I called the PT and they said they had NO order for me. I finally got an appointment and I'm set up. But during the 2 weeks of appointments and testing, I am dizzy and disoriented and out of sorts! I could not possibly imagine a doc office would operate the way these guys do! there are moody, rude, have unwelcoming attitude, and they badly lack sense of urgency. communication and following up very low most of the time. we have been waiting for weeks to get a response from them for my daughter who needs go through a surgery. they do not bother calling to let us know of what is holding up. why can not do surgery. they get offended if you call to complain.! i do not know how these guys belong to Stanford. I hope they are an exception, and not a true representation of Stanford Medical. read more

3/31/2011 I went to Diablo Valley ENT for an appointment to see Dr. Scott. I was impressed by the efficiency of the staff as well as Dr. Scott sensitivity to my situation. Not only did the Dr. take time to listen to all of my concerns, he made sure every question I had was answered before I left my appointment. I was also impressed by the staff's knowledge behind my what my portion due at the time of service would be. I was also informed if I over paid I would be due a refund and if I under paid I could receive a bill in the mail. Nice to know these things in advance! Great practice -would recommend it for your ENT needs! :) read more

If I was rating the office based on appointment time and wait, then it would be ok. Although being a doctor goes far beyond getting people in and out of the waiting room and doc room quickly. What I find interesting is they have a big letter on their wall about asking questions and how a good "patient" is one that feels at ease to do so. Ironic. And p.s to that.. "good patient"?? hmm.. Anyway, I felt so rushed from this doctor. I went in for a lump I found on my throat. Any questions I had seemed like they were just wasting his time, and I just kept getting the same answer!! I did not feel at ease to ask questions. I felt like this guy had way too many other things to do than deal with me. Ok, so on the next step.. biopsy and wait for the results. Great. Results come in and its cancerous, not aggressive and very treatable thankfully, but cancerous. Friday before the holiday weekend I got a call from Dr Murphey and he rattled off in about 3 mintues how he thinks its ok and it will probably be no big deal. This shouldn't ruin my weekend and go have a great time..la la la. Ummm... ok thanks. Again, he seemed way too busy to be bothered with me. So the MRI was done Tuesday of that next week and even though the results were faxed over the same day!!.. no one has bothered to call to see what I do from here... So here I sit, frustrated, totally in mystery about all of this and no call from the doctor. I thought it best to write while its all fresh in my mind. The front office has told me they are aware of these bad reviews flooding Yelp but Im really not very confident that the ring leaders of the practice care or have done/are doing anything about it... what a shame. Anyway, thank god for second opinions and PPOs! I went to Dr. Hsieh for sinus surgery after suffering serious, repeated sinus infections on what seemed to be, a bi-monthly basis. He also recommended I have my deviated septum fixed as well, so I would have even breathing out both sides of my nose, and helping me greatly in my cardio activities. He claimed he was an expert in septoplasty and rhinoplasty and has more training that a plastic surgeon in this field. I had the surgery and he BUTCHERED my nose. He made my left nostril collapse into a tiny little slit that I cannot breathe out of. My whole nose was a lumpy bumpy deformed mess. I have now had to pay over $20,000 to have it corrected by a top revisionary surgeon. My nose will still never be the same after Dr. Hsieh completely ruined it. I would not let Dr. Hsieh walk my DOG let alone perform surgery ever again. The surgery he performed was BASIC ENT stuff and was not supposed to change the way my nose looked at all, yet he ruined not only the aesthetic of my nose but it's functionality too. I will note that his bedside manner was good and he seemed like a nice man...however, there are a lot of nice people in the world, it does not mean they should be surgeons. Maybe he is a great ENT, I do not know but he should NOT be advising his patients that he is more skilled than a plastic surgeon when he caused incredible,mortifying and permanent damage to my nose. Over $20K and two revisions later, my nose will still not be the same ever again. read more

I have been to this doctor's office two times with appts at 8:15 a.m. The first time I waited 40 minutes with no explanation and the last time I waited ONE HOUR, at that time in the morning, with no explanation, no one came into the waiting room to explain, and furthermore the doctor never apologized. Another woman left without seeing doctor. Also, Dr. Murphy said he would call on Monday with test results from Friday, and never called. It is now Wednesday. I would never use this office. This review is for the staff and not Dr. Scott who was great. I have never been treated more poorly from an office staff then I have been at this clinic. I went in January for a deviated septum for a first appointment , pictures were taken and I was told approval would take 1-2 week from Insurance . We are now end of April and I have never gotten a call from the office letting me know what is going on. I have had to call 5 times to see the status and keep getting told my insurance canceled it . Then I was told that the insurance accepted it and that I failed to call and schedule surgery quick enough so insurance canceled the claim. I NEVER GOT A CALL stating that it had been approved and to schedule surgery. Every time I've called , I've been more and more upset and the ladies I've talked too, one being Amy, have been rude and very aloof , having no idea how frustrating and ridiculous this process is. I am now currently in the process of moving , which is why I went in , In January to get this taken care of early and am no longer able to get the surgery here so it was all a waste and now I'm slapped with a 500$ bill for just the first visit , which is now a complete waste bc Dr. Scott can't do my surgery anyways.
