Diamond Dust was just okay in my opinion nothing special. Pretty much mediocre cupcakes if you ask me. Not very sweet, but moist. The owner was very welcoming and pleasant. I think the price point doesn't match the tiny cupcakes like other cupcake locations I frequent. $5.50 for one cupcake is a bit much. I would rather buy a slice of cake for the same price or less. Look no further than Diamond Dust if you're craving a sweet treat in Decatur. I've passed this establishment numerous times, but finally stopped in recently on a Saturday afternoon. The decor is simplistic, but very beautiful. A lot of the options were sold out by the time I arrived. I decided on a strawberry cupcake and a Biscoff flavored cupcake. The owner and her brother were very welcoming. The cupcakes are fairly small and pricey at $5.50 a pop, but they were absolutely delicious. While lemon isn't usually my go-to, it was perfectly balanced--light, fresh, and not overpowering. On my next visit, I came by midday Saturday and ordered the red velvet, strawberry, cookie butter, and salted caramel. Each one was absolutely delicious and tasted freshly baked. The owner was so friendly and welcoming, which made the experience even better. Pricing is right in line with other boutique bakeries in the area and 100% worth it for the quality. Found this place on yelp and definitely had to try it because of the five star review status. I'm gonna go ahead and add another! I love the logo! It has a dash of elegance. However, due to the name, I expected to walk in and see really glamorously designed cupcakes but it was quite the opposite. They were small and simple with minimal frosting. The frosting was actually positioned in the center of the cupcake leaving the surrounding circumference bare and you could see the cake around the perimeter. Now I know a lot of people can't stand to get a cupcake that has goo gobs of frosting, more frosting than the actual cupcake! However I felt a little cheated because of the appearance. Not sure why I was so conflicted because then I thought about the fact that I don't like when frosting is overpowering in the first place. I had the salted caramel option. The cupcake was extremely moist and well flavored! I don't remember the exact name but something comparable. The icing was just right! You can tell that this was intentional. Now that we're through my icing/frosting rant and all turned out well, I'll just add that although delicious, they were a bit pricey, or are all cupcakes averaging $5? Firstly, this little shop is obscure, keep your eye out for it or you'll miss it. It's very close to the Sam's Crossing junction. This year, I had to buy it the day before since they do not open on Sunday and thus I feared it would not be fresh and asked the staff for recommendations to keep it 'alive'. She was very helpful. I really wished they did open on Sunday so that I did not need to watch the boxes but not be able to eat the contents until 24hrs later. Torture! After a torturous 24hrs later, brought to the party and everyone who ate it was ranting and raving about it. I bought 2 of each available flavor and everyone got what they wanted and/or they could eat. Brought much joy to them. One last thing about these cupcakes, they aren't as sweet as the ones I bought the year before - which is a good thing since all the party attendee are retirees and doctor's orders to cut sugar. I really can't say enough nice things about this cupcakery! First impressions are everything, and they really rocked my socks! I was driving by and noticed the cute baby blue building, so we turned around to check it out. Saw the reviews and knew that was something special.
