Blood work taken around 11 AM showed high blood glucose, which can make sedation riskier for senior cats--another reason why this delay was dangerous. No sedation reversal was administered, and based on the records, there was no post-sedation monitoring. She was sent home too quickly, disoriented, unable to walk properly, and clearly distressed. Cats over 12 years are roughly twice as likely to suffer anesthetic complications, making proper monitoring and recovery time critical. Even 48 hours later, she was still not fully recovered. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable bringing any pet here and would caution other pet owners to consider this before choosing this practice.

I will admit the first experience I had here was wonderful. Dr. Reabe was kind. However every experience after that was a nightmare. I will recap my final experiences for you. I brought both my three year old cat and my new kitten and received a discount for bringing both of them in. $5 off my total price. Over the phone they told me it would be a $90 visit and when I went to pay, the total was $170. Such a leap is unacceptable to me. They should have informed me of the price variations while it was happening. If they had been a bit more organized, maybe they would have. The first thing I said when I entered the examination room is, "I'm a little worried about Morn. When we're all done with the normal shots and checkup I was wondering if you could check out his left paw. He's been chewing at it strangely lately. And he's also been going down to the litter box several times a day and squatting, but only manages to squeeze out a few drops... I'm really concerned it might be serious." "Oh, well she's looking great. We'll have her checked out in no time." I brushed off the error as an account of actively listening. So she messed up and called my male cat a female after I'd just spent three minutes discussing *his* issues, it didn't mean she wasn't going to actually take care of him. But it wasn't a one time thing. I continued talking to her and the other nurse, who were cuddling Pumpkin (the kitten) and in the discussion of both MALE cats she continued to refer to them both as females. When the visit was over and both cats had their stool samples checked, I was told "my girls" were fine and dandy and to come back in a year for another check up. I know now she didn't hear a word I said. I left the vet very upset, but when my cat urinated blood at 2 am all over my bathroom floor, I was furious. After some research (thanks to the internet and not to this veterinarian) I figured he had a urinary tract infection, which can be common in male cats. I called the clinic the next day and spoke to a vet tech and she said that I "probably caught it in time" and I just need to pick up some antibiotics. I'm thinking, what if I didn't catch it in time? "You're not going to look at him to make sure it hasn't gotten worse?" "No, he'll probably just have you come pick up some antibiotics." Wrong answer, East Bay Animal Hospital. Wrong answer. You don't even know if he has a UTI, I just diagnosed it myself over the internet. Not only that, but when I brought him back in for the medication and told them the situation (thinking, stupidly, that the vet would actually want to see him instead of just forking over medication) they tried to charge me again for the visit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I understand paying for the medication, but I'm not paying another $90 for a check up you should've made, but apparently didn't, in the first place. Ugh. I wish Yelp had a 0 Stars option. Or a "Don't go here if your life depends on it" option.

Without them, there would be no joy or warmth in the office! On the other hand... Dr. Lacrosse has no ability to empathize with animals or humans. My 5/12 yr old lab was born with hip dysplasia and is having more pain. I was billed for an exam she did not perform - I.e. bio mechanical assessment, no range of motion test, no palpation of his painful spots, she didn't even look at his teeth or ears. I shared I do not have the money for a hip replacement, rehab, laser treatment, injections and meds combined as she recommends. I asked when it was realistic to put him down, having only long lived dogs before. Shadow is 51/2 going on 10. I asked about grants for situation like this as Shadow received a grant at MSU for his elbows. I know head of orthopedics at MSU vet center, and didn't share the info to hear here knowledge as a MSU graduate. Her flippant response was shocking, degrading and rude- her answer "people just don't throw money around to individuals like you". The only way dogs receive funding is to "give him to the humane society or a family with more money who can afford all her services and surgery and let him have a comfortable long life". Shadow was my service dog, now a therapy dog. My pets are my children. She has horrible interpersonal skills, zero compassion, is ostentatious, and self-serving. So one of our dogs needs a dental, we are only up here in the summer and unfortunately it cannot…read morewait until we get back to home, so my wife scheduled an appointment with the clinic two weeks ago. In that time, our poor dog has started to show signs that her teeth are painful, it isn't just an issue of her mouth smelling funky. So we waited the two weeks, because from all of my wife's research, this was a good clinic to bring our beloved dog to. So my wife dropped off our dog at 9am. When my wife got home I asked when our pooch would be home, and she told me that they were not expecting to perform the dental procedure until 2:30pm. At a vet clinic back home, we would normally have dropped off the animal closer to the time of the appointment. My wife has worked in the animal welfware industry and assisted with surgeries so she began to try and figure out when we might get a call from them, as she was told that she would likely pick up our dog at 4:30pm, so if they started on time at 2:30 pm and an average dental takes about 30 minutes, depending upon the number of extractions that need to be done and so, we would likely hear from the clinic around 3:15 pm. And we did. We were informed that they were not able to perform the dental procedure, due to a high volume of walk-ins, one of which is life threatening. My wife was as polite as possible as the lady on the other end of the phone served up the reasons/excuses as to why our dog has sat in a kennel since 9am and still has teeth that need to be cleaned and likely some that need to be pulled. They should have called us sooner, because with them closing at 5pm, there is a limited window of time for a dog to properly recover from the drugs used to put them under during a dental procedure, pretty much meaning that when it was apparent they would not be able to start at 2:30, they should have called my wife. Also, because of the fact that when my wife dropped off our dog, their surgery list was full, such that our dog's expected time was 2:30, and it being 9am, my wife should have been offered the ability to bring the dog back at say 2:00 pm, or even offered the chance to call at 2pm and see if she should bring our dog in, given the busy schedule. As the clinic is not open on Weds, we were offered a Friday appointment with a discount for the inconvenience. Without have any other options, my wife accepted the appointment, but will be canceling soon as she doesn't want to have the procedure done at the end of the week with there being a possibility of weekend complications, so rather we will be taking our dog to another clinic on Tuesday. The crappy thing about all of this is, we waited two weeks, because the research showed that this was a great clinic and from what my wife could see when she picked up our pooch, the clinic does appear to be great if your local. And while we are not here all year round, we have multiple dogs, so it feels like when an appointment is made it should be kept or if anything, we should have been offered an appointment on Thursday. I really don't like giving bad reviews, but in this case I am upset, possibly more so than my wife. Take this review with the grain of salt that our dog was never actually treated by the clinic and it is unlikely that any of our animals ever will be, but this review is a faire and accurate recap of the events with the information provided to us.
