My 5/12 yr old lab was born with hip dysplasia and is having more pain. I was billed for an exam she did not perform - I.e. bio mechanical assessment, no range of motion test, no palpation of his painful spots, she didn't even look at his teeth or ears. I shared I do not have the money for a hip replacement, rehab, laser treatment, injections and meds combined as she recommends. I asked when it was realistic to put him down, having only long lived dogs before. Shadow is 51/2 going on 10. I asked about grants for situation like this as Shadow received a grant at MSU for his elbows. I know head of orthopedics at MSU vet center, and didn't share the info to hear here knowledge as a MSU graduate. Her flippant response was shocking, degrading and rude- her answer "people just don't throw money around to individuals like you". The only way dogs receive funding is to "give him to the humane society or a family with more money who can afford all her services and surgery and let him have a comfortable long life". Shadow was my service dog, now a therapy dog. My pets are my children. She has horrible interpersonal skills, zero compassion, is ostentatious, and self-serving. I will admit the first experience I had here was wonderful. Dr. Reabe was kind. However every experience after that was a nightmare. I will recap my final experiences for you. I brought both my three year old cat and my new kitten and received a discount for bringing both of them in. $5 off my total price. Over the phone they told me it would be a $90 visit and when I went to pay, the total was $170. Such a leap is unacceptable to me. They should have informed me of the price variations while it was happening. If they had been a bit more organized, maybe they would have. The first thing I said when I entered the examination room is, "I'm a little worried about Morn. When we're all done with the normal shots and checkup I was wondering if you could check out his left paw. He's been chewing at it strangely lately. And he's also been going down to the litter box several times a day and squatting, but only manages to squeeze out a few drops... I'm really concerned it might be serious." "Oh, well she's looking great. We'll have her checked out in no time." I brushed off the error as an account of actively listening. So she messed up and called my male cat a female after I'd just spent three minutes discussing *his* issues, it didn't mean she wasn't going to actually take care of him. But it wasn't a one time thing. I continued talking to her and the other nurse, who were cuddling Pumpkin (the kitten) and in the discussion of both MALE cats she continued to refer to them both as females. When the visit was over and both cats had their stool samples checked, I was told "my girls" were fine and dandy and to come back in a year for another check up. I know now she didn't hear a word I said. I left the vet very upset, but when my cat urinated blood at 2 am all over my bathroom floor, I was furious. After some research (thanks to the internet and not to this veterinarian) I figured he had a urinary tract infection, which can be common in male cats. I called the clinic the next day and spoke to a vet tech and she said that I "probably caught it in time" and I just need to pick up some antibiotics. I'm thinking, what if I didn't catch it in time? "You're not going to look at him to make sure it hasn't gotten worse?" "No, he'll probably just have you come pick up some antibiotics." Wrong answer, East Bay Animal Hospital. Wrong answer. You don't even know if he has a UTI, I just diagnosed it myself over the internet. Not only that, but when I brought him back in for the medication and told them the situation (thinking, stupidly, that the vet would actually want to see him instead of just forking over medication) they tried to charge me again for the visit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I understand paying for the medication, but I'm not paying another $90 for a check up you should've made, but apparently didn't, in the first place. Ugh. I wish Yelp had a 0 Stars option. Or a "Don't go here if your life depends on it" option.

I'm 55 and NEVER written a negative review. I also have a sister-in-law who is a vet in Tennessee, so I'm sympathetic. I've been going to Bellaire Animal Hospital for 3 years now...for both regular care and boarding. Also for my family with dogs for 12 years now...from vaccinating new puppies through euthanizing them. I'm not a pristine owner who demands perfection. I keep my dog well groomed when he'll be boarded. On Bellaire Animal Hospital's Website it states: BOARDING GUESTS ENJOY A NUMBER OF AMENITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO: CAGES ARE SANITIZED DAILY, AND CLEAN BEDDING IS PROVIDED AND CHANGED REGULARLY. The first year I picked-up my dog from their boarding services, he wreaked of a "wet, outside dog smell" and had feces smeared on his coat. I said nothing - I just took him home, bathed him and shampooed his car seat (at a $$$, of course). The second year I politely mentioned the previous year's experience... ...and our dog was cared for perfectly - just as they claim on their website. This year (2017) I politely mentioned it again but was told that "repulsive smell is expected, but we will bathe him for extra cost". Extra cost when their website pledges that "cages are sanitized daily" and "bedding is changed regularly" This is either a conflict - or an untruth. On 2017's boarding drop-off I asked to speak with the vet to express my disappointing reservation conversation. Asst. Wilson invited me into his office, but our 90 second conversation became resentful and an UNREASONABLY rude. I explained that I appreciate all the wonderful care given to both my dog and others, but explained the concern about my dog's hygene...and I POLITELY explained that I felt it's reasonable to expect he be returned to me in the same clean condition he arrived... and without extra bathing fees. This complies with their websit, but in direct contrast the proposal for extra bathing fees. Asst. Wilson's only response was (with a condescending tone of voice) "If you don't like it, then don't bring your damn dog here. We don't need your complaints OR business". {awkward pause} (While infrustrated) I calmly replied "OK then". Asst. Wilson quickly followed "I have emergency surgery in a few minutes and you want me to spend time dealing with your stinky fucking dog? Just get out" (pointing to the door). Without a word or gesture I left his office. Would he give the same rude response should a client obtain flees? Flees, stench and feeces all require extra retail products ($$$) and time to rid the dog of its newly-acquired undesirable attributes. What's the difference? Hmmm. Just a thought. I left my dog to border since I was on my way to vacation and there were no alternatives. When I picked him up, he was just fine - clean, happy and healthy. Again, I was both polite and respectful to Asst. Wilson and the staff. EVERYONE in the practice seems top-notch. Asst. Wilson: Whether you are having a stressful day or not, there is NO excuse for your rudeness when patients share concerns, no matter how insignificant they seem to you - especially considering that you're supposed to be a trained, practicing, educated professional. I respect your profession and what you endure daily, but NEITHER your patience or sensitivity skills. I apologize if, at the time, I seemed self-centered because of my concern for my best friend's care and health, but I had no idea what your day consisted of - emergency surgery or not. You invited me to visit with you in your office. I accepted your offer, explained my concern in a calm, respectful way, and you reamed me unnecessarily. When I told them I was thrilled they could come to my house she acted Totally surprised. Apparently they prefer you go to their new office. Anyway, she said mobile vet person would call me soon and could probably come Friday morning at 9 a.m. I said fine. Well at 1:30 Julie called and started right out saying they could not be to my house until Monday, but bring my dog into the office. I asked what I could do for my dog's mouth until Monday and was told I would have to wait to see what the doctor said. Neither woman asked anything about my dog or was willing to help me. I came back a week later b/c my dog had not improved with the prescribed antibiotics and actually her condition worsen. Her body was too old to fight off her situation even with the antibiotics that were prescribed. Dr.Giglio spent a tremendous amount of time discussing options and prognosis. Once I made the decision to euthanize, she was sympathic and comforting. I definitely recommend Omnivet but even further Dr. Giglio.
