On one visit, I picked him up to find his paw bleeding because his nail had been cut past the quick. The only response I received was essentially a "sorry" when they handed him back. Ever since that experience, nail trims have caused him significant anxiety. Because of that, I made it VERY clear in advance of today's appointment that he would need to be sedated for his nail trim. Despite being told this beforehand, they still attempted the nail trim without sedation, causing him even more stress and anxiety. I then received a call saying they would need to try sedation because they didn't want to risk getting him more worked up or their staff getting injured -- which is interesting, considering that is exactly what I told them needed to happen in the first place. I completely understand protecting your staff. What I don't understand is why that same level of caution wasn't extended to my dog, especially when his history and needs were communicated ahead of time. If you don't have the confidence, training, or ability to safely perform a service on an anxious dog, say that before attempting it. Don't put the animal through unnecessary stress and then decide afterward to follow the instructions the owner already gave you. After years of bringing my dog here I am starting to see that this veterinary office DOES NOT take both the safety of its staff and the safety and well-being of its animals seriously.

Totally going out of their way for things they didn't have to and all helping me and each other with the most kindness. I wanted to apologize again for my demeanor. Serious concerns for all pets…read more I dropped off my senior cat at 8:30 AM for a sedated shave, but she was not seen or sedated until over 5 hours later, with no attention or monitoring during that time. Blood work taken around 11 AM showed high blood glucose, which can make sedation riskier for senior cats--another reason why this delay was dangerous. No sedation reversal was administered, and based on the records, there was no post-sedation monitoring. She was sent home too quickly, disoriented, unable to walk properly, and clearly distressed. Cats over 12 years are roughly twice as likely to suffer anesthetic complications, making proper monitoring and recovery time critical. Even 48 hours later, she was still not fully recovered. Based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable bringing any pet here and would caution other pet owners to consider this before choosing this practice.

I will admit the first experience I had here was wonderful. Dr. Reabe was kind. However every experience after that was a nightmare. I will recap my final experiences for you. I brought both my three year old cat and my new kitten and received a discount for bringing both of them in. $5 off my total price. Over the phone they told me it would be a $90 visit and when I went to pay, the total was $170. Such a leap is unacceptable to me. They should have informed me of the price variations while it was happening. If they had been a bit more organized, maybe they would have. The first thing I said when I entered the examination room is, "I'm a little worried about Morn. When we're all done with the normal shots and checkup I was wondering if you could check out his left paw. He's been chewing at it strangely lately. And he's also been going down to the litter box several times a day and squatting, but only manages to squeeze out a few drops... I'm really concerned it might be serious." "Oh, well she's looking great. We'll have her checked out in no time." I brushed off the error as an account of actively listening. So she messed up and called my male cat a female after I'd just spent three minutes discussing *his* issues, it didn't mean she wasn't going to actually take care of him. But it wasn't a one time thing. I continued talking to her and the other nurse, who were cuddling Pumpkin (the kitten) and in the discussion of both MALE cats she continued to refer to them both as females. When the visit was over and both cats had their stool samples checked, I was told "my girls" were fine and dandy and to come back in a year for another check up. I know now she didn't hear a word I said. I left the vet very upset, but when my cat urinated blood at 2 am all over my bathroom floor, I was furious. After some research (thanks to the internet and not to this veterinarian) I figured he had a urinary tract infection, which can be common in male cats. I called the clinic the next day and spoke to a vet tech and she said that I "probably caught it in time" and I just need to pick up some antibiotics. I'm thinking, what if I didn't catch it in time? "You're not going to look at him to make sure it hasn't gotten worse?" "No, he'll probably just have you come pick up some antibiotics." Wrong answer, East Bay Animal Hospital. Wrong answer. You don't even know if he has a UTI, I just diagnosed it myself over the internet. Not only that, but when I brought him back in for the medication and told them the situation (thinking, stupidly, that the vet would actually want to see him instead of just forking over medication) they tried to charge me again for the visit. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I understand paying for the medication, but I'm not paying another $90 for a check up you should've made, but apparently didn't, in the first place. Ugh. I wish Yelp had a 0 Stars option. Or a "Don't go here if your life depends on it" option.
