Our experience with DiCarlo was unbelievable! Absolutely top-notch and I can't recommend them highly enough. I had two ten year-old, contemporary Italian sofas from a previous home and wanted to make them work for a home in a more traditional style. I spent months looking for ways to reupholster them without spending as much as they had originally cost, and without having to wait 12+ weeks. I had almost given up when a friend recommended DiCarlo. Eric came to our house with a great selection of fabrics, took the sofas and brought them back in less than two weeks. The workmanship is flawless and the cost was less than half what i was quoted from a different upholsterer in Boston, whose wait time was going to be several months. Another quote I got on the North Shore included very steep pick-up and drop-off fees, while DiCarlo's were much lower, and they were going to charge a 20% surcharge if I didn't use their fabric. We feel lucky to have met Eddie and Danielle who are the lovely and talented owners of this company. We have two Stickley arm chairs one of which needed some TLC. The original leather chair was a bit too worn for our liking and was in an original deep green leather which we loved but now wanted to change to black in keeping with the newer chair and the redesign of our family room. Eddie and Danielle came to our home, examined the chair and brought with them many swatches of leather for us to peruse. It may seem simple enough to pick out a leather to use as opposed to fabric but it isn't. There are many shades and variations of the color black not to mention the various textures of the leather from which to choose. Then there is a matte finish or various gradations of leather with a higher gloss or sheen. Danielle and Eddie were incredibly helpful in sorting through the swatches and we found one that matched the other chair perfectly. We really appreciated having two extra pairs of eyes to help us with our selection. As well, the DiCarlo's appreciated the Mission style and craftsmanship of our chair. Eddie was reassuring and able to speak to the way in which he would maintain the integrity of the original look in his work. The DiCarlos are a young couple from Brazil. It was in Brazil Eddie told us, that he learned the art and craft of upholstery from his father starting at the age of 7. Eddie is a master craftsman. The work he did on our chair is excellent and we are very happy with the result. He will pick up and then return your piece of furniture. The turnaround time for us was relatively quick too. It is generally difficult, I'm sad to say, to find craftspeople like this. Generations ago it used to be very easy to find talented artisans in the US but that isn't the case any longer. Finding people who are truly talented, detail-oriented, and committed to perfection are as rare as the proverbial hen's teeth. . We feel lucky to have found the the DiCarlos and so close to home to boot. We won't hesitate to use them on other projects that might come up. On top of the beautiful work that was done for us, we so enjoyed meeting this couple. They are very nice people. Somewhere along the line we got to talking about food with them and they gave us some much appreciated tips on Brazilian Churrascaria in our area. Now that's a full-service company. read more

My puppy chewed on the armrest of my chair. Eddie of DiCarlo upholstery repaired it perfectly. He picked it up, repaired it, and returned it in just 24 hours!!! Oh, and he made protective covers for both arms of the chair. I'm sure I made it a bit easier because I was able to supply the fabric since the dog destroyed an identical chair previously and we kept the extra fabric before trashing it. But really? Next day turn around? Unheard of!! Definitely recommended. Hopefully I won't need their services for the same chair again but will use them for any future needs. Oops! The "before" picture wasn't included in my review. Trust me...doggie did a number on the left armrest. You can see the finished work looks great though! read more

Wow! In a drunken haze, sleeping on my friends couch, I rolled to my side only to rip a button off her beloved couch. The following day I used an app called Operator and found this couch repair service. They met me in Somerville while doing other appointments in Boston. The repairman came 15 minutes early and I wasn't home yet but he patiently waited for me outside. Then he came in and fixed the button in about 3 minutes and only charged me $10. I'm thinking about bringing them a full piece to have restored now. Killer! read more

Eddie did a wonderful job on my dilapidated chaise! And the turn around time was much shorter than what I expected! Arriving at his shop to pick out fabrics was a breeze, he had samples of my various material options and I was allowed to take samples home to think it over. At first, Eddie was booked up for 2-3 months meaning he would not be able to get to my chaise until sometime after the summer. But thankfully a slot opened up and he was able to pick up my chaise (He does home pickup and deliveries--amazing!) earlier than expected. It took about 4 weeks, but he was in constant contact with me about design and updates on the chaise. Turns out the inside of the chaise was pretty bad, but he was able to fix it and offer a good price for the different updates! I would totally recommend Eddie! His services are perfect! My in-laws bought my husband and I a nice poker table about a year and a half ago. We made sure to put a cover over it so that our cat's hair wouldn't get all over it....but neglected to notice until it was too late that she was using the vinyl bumper around the edges as a scratching post! I saw all of Eddie's great reviews on here, and decided to contact him (along with a couple of other places). He was incredibly responsive and flexible. Because of the size of the table, I needed a pickup/drop-off service, and he obliged. He came with a variety of choices for replacement. And after 2-3 weeks (we told him there was no rush), it was returned as good as new! I would definitely recommend him. Couldn't have been happier. Thought that I would need to have the sofa completely re-strong because when we sat on the cushions it all felt very saggy. He not only repaired, refinished and reupholstered a chair for me, he picked it up and delivered it back to me, replied to all my emails thoughtfully and quickly, allowed me to purchase my own fabric online which saved me a bundle of money, and even sent me a Christmas card!
