I wish there was an Academy closer to me... Since there isn't, I resort to this place. Every time there is a LONG wait and workers attending other things. No one has said hello. No one asked us for help. After today I'm sure I won't be back. Ugh So, other than my rant about customer service, the store is confusing. Last time I came we couldn't find basketball socks. They weren't in the basketball section they where in a Nike rack near the front. Kid you not, no one knew where to find them. Sad. Since we asked a manager. Again, once we were ready to pay we had the longest wait. I am back today for football gloves. Thank goodness the football stuff was in the front. They cover camping, golfing, running, biking, all kinds of ball sports, stuff to set up a mini gym in your house and so much more. Only downside is how much pricier things could be here than other spots like Big 5 or Academy Sports. A sports bra on clearance still cost 20$?? No thanks. Dont have the means of buying anything yet? Not a problem. Dicks is one of those stores that you can spend hours just walking through and browsing. Dick's Sporting Goods is like the grown-up version of Toys-R-Us. You probably had that one item in mind when going, but once you step one foot inside you immediately have to take a detour to the other side of the store because something new has caught your eye. The golfing section is so hard for me to pass up... not because I'm some great golfer or I even golf that often, but because it's so interactive. I wish the whole store was like that. You can practice your swing in this little nook where a computer is hooked up and ready to tell you how far your drive is, what direction it went in, and other things that I'm sure are very beneficial to know when buying a new set of clubs. They also have a little putting green. This is where it's at. Place some wagers with your friends, families, or complete strangers. It's too much fun. I hear they also have an archery range, but I feel like you're supposed to actually have a bow and arrow for that... I'll have to investigate further. I suppose they really can't make the rest of the store that interactive because then we'd never leave, but I don't know guys... I think we could put in a volleyball-court-computer (for testing accuracy of the volleyball you're about to purchase) or something. Just a thought. No pressure. Dick's carries the usual suspects, Under Armour and Nike as well as just about every item you'd need for whatever sporting adventure you're about to be on. So... good selection of sporting goods. The only thing that I find hard to love about this sports emporium is the fact that it's pretty hard to find someone on staff. Even in the golfing section. There's an area that appears like it should be manned by an employee, yet I've never seen one in the area. I just feel like the two or three cashiers up at the front can't be the only employees on hand for such a large store. It would also make it easier to find something if there were a couple of employees on the floor doing something, anything (tiding shelves, cleaning floors, etc.) so that I could ask where something is instead of wandering aimlessly down each and ever isle. Prior to this new location I have never been to a Dick's Sporting Goods store, so I don't know how it compares to other locations across the nation, but its nice to have a new store come to town. Selection is solid, though in my opinion Academy has bigger stores and offers more selection of sporting goods, I'd say Dick's is more comparable to Sports Authority with Academy being bigger than both, and that's all the Dick's comparisons I care to ever do. Nonetheless they've got plenty of equipment and clothing, really, really bright clothing (great for jogging), shoe selection could be better, though I did like that they have Under Armor shoes which I haven't seen before at the previously mentioned stores. The fan gear section is pretty lackluster, unless you are looking for Dallas Cowboys stuff, and even then, this being El Paso, you can do a lot better. All in all, an okay store. read more

In so glad this store came to Ep!! For those of you asking if this store is like academy, yes and no. Academy is a bigger store, but Dicks has more selections, and better quality brands. If you're a Nike and Under Armour lover (I'm a nike and UA whore) you will love this store! As soon as you walk In you have a large selection of Nike products. If you make your way to the back you have a decent size selection or athletic shoes and socks. I wasn't too thrilled with their sneaker selections. Also in the back there is a good sized outdoors and hunting and fishing section. I was really dissapointed with the weight training products, you don't have much to choose from. I would recommended going to academy for weights and gear. Overall it's a nice store. Expect to pay roughly 5.00 bucks more for same or similar products found at academy. I'm really dissapointed in the store for not offering a military/Goverment discount. I always enjoy coming here. I always hear that it is just an over priced Academy. I don't really find that to be true. While both are stores of the "sports and outdoors" type, they each have their own little area they specialize in. For instance, Dick's has a MUCH better Golf selection and an Archery Range, whereas Academy is better for Workout Gear and Shoe selection. For me, I prefer Dick's because it is cleaner, and they have more of the less common items than Academy. Also, Dick's has a huge golf selection, which rivals some of the golf specific stores in town for about the se or better price. They also have club fittings, with deals all the time. It is true, you could very easily pay a few dollars more for the same item when shopping at Dick's. However, I will say that the store is newer, cleaning, and overall provides a nicer shopping experience. I have also always had good experiences with the staff there as well. read more

This is the creme of the crop in terms of sporting goods in El Paso. They have an extensive selection of everything. Recently we when there in the market for a 4 person pop up tent. I was prepared to stand in the aisle for an hour reading each box comparing tents. What did I find? Yes... a mini tent of each type set up on display. We were able to look inside them, do a 360 degree look at them and feel the quality. There were about 6 different tents in the model we were looking at and this made it a so much easier! I was here earlier today. I usually do not go often but when I do I like to spend a little more than usual. I needed help reaching some shoes from the top shelf when I asked some man at the shoe section for help he rolled his eyes got then and walked away. I of course said thank you and he walked away, he did not share one word with me. At the register the girl working there was a little rude, no customer service at all. Her name was Viktoria. The phone was ringing for what seemed like forever and she did not bother to answer it. (I would understand if she said excuse me I need to take this, but no it did not phase her). She also did not share one word with us or ask us how we were doing nothing. Plus she was the only one working at the register with a super long line behind us. We were so happy when the new store opened at the Fountains here in El Paso a few months ago. My daughter recently tried out for girls Softball and we were so excited Today when we found out she made the team. I promised her if she made the team that we would go and get her everything she needed for her new sport. The purchase will include a glove, bat. batting gloves and a few softballs for practicing. When we got to the store with a budget of 300.00 she was very excited to see all the different types of equipment to chose from, but I was kinda confused while looking at gloves and things for girls because I'm not sure exactly how to size things for her. we looked around for a while and there was absolutely no one around that department to help us out. it was 7:45 on Monday Night, March 31st. I finally had to go searching for help, when I got to the front desk there were 2 girls there and they were both on the phone. I went searching for other employees for help and found absolutely no one on that whole side of the store. I finally went back to the front counter and found one of the girls was off the phone and asked her for help. I was informed that was not her dept. and the other girl on the phone it was her dept. She must have seen the disappointment in my face because she said "Well let me see if I can find someone else to help you"? I said ok...Well nobody ever did show up and when I went back to the front counter the girl was still on the phone and the other girl disappeared.
