High quality weapons, ammo, and especially customer service! I love coming here to admire how professional yet rugged everything looks for dksplaying their goods. Its the perfect touch of class for the outdoor world. I also love how their shooting range is easily visible rather than hidden away. Not that it im paranoid about live firearm in a closed building but its just fun to watch sometimes. The best part is that they also specialize in archery which isnt always dependable in other places. Sometimes people wont even want to help you. Perhaps its due to majority of people are limited on theur archery knowledge and avoid archery customers like the plague. But Case was a wonderful and knowledgable employee who helped us out to re-string our bow without hesitation. He acknowledged us right away and was super friendly and helpful all thru. I've only been here twice, but I feel it's worth a review. As long as they stay in business, my two trips will turn into 200. So brace yourselves, because you know I'm about to spit a long review, full personal backstory included. I've labeled the review and backstory. Scroll further down to read review. BACKSTORY: So I was at the PX on Ft Bliss, and believe it or not, they have very good firearms section / selection, with those hard to beat AAFES prices. So I'm browsing. Now call it just being a "man", or maybe the fact I've been a Soldier for 17 yrs now, or the fact I thoroughly enjoy shooting and especially working on marksmanship skills (there's no better feeling than hitting that bullseye multiple times with a tight shot group), the increased amount of crime and danger we face daily, the feeling of the need for added protection, the increase in terror attacks and senseless attacks world wide even in previously believed to be "safe" places like Europe, or a combination of ALL of that stuff and more... but I've been "in the market" for a firearm for quite some time now, but just never "pulled the trigger" on getting one (lol, see what I did there). I have however, done plenty of internet based research, and I've narrowed down what I THOUGHT I wanted. Now, I don't want to raise a militia in my backyard. I don't want some pump action, pistol grip, rail system, monster that will dislocate my shoulder while also decapitating the assailant. I don't want to replicate the same weapon he Army assigns me for free, nor do I wanna be all "tacti-cool". I don't need to kill any bears. I don't need to hit a elk in the chest at 500m. All I need is a pistol, for personal protection, that is easily concealed and easily carried, legally, with a concealed carry license. Enough so that I can stop a would be attacker in the parking lot, the store, or even in my home. Luckily, almost every firearms company out there makes just the kind of weapon I'm looking for. I narrow it down to 3 firearms that I feel will be the best choice for me. All 3 are at the PX. Glock 43 (9mm), Smith & Wesson M&P 9 Shield (9mm), Springfield XD-S (.45 ACP) Glock has that name we all know. The SW MP9 comes in that cool "coyote brown" that is all "tactical" and stuff. But the XD-S is a .45! Now that's what I'm talking about! Forget that 9mm junk. And there's a Father's Day weekend sale? The stars are aligning. I handle each one, and they all feel great. But I'm torn between the XDS and the cool looking Shield! The Shield is over $100 cheaper. Bonus. The XDS .45 only holds 6 rounds. Bummer. But then again, they dude behind the counter tells me, "if you need more than 6 rounds of a .45 to 'defend yourself', then you don't need a pistol at all." Hmmm, good point. What should I do? Well just then, a civilian Angel happens to be watching over me and my finances, and approaches me. He tells me, "hey man I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. Look: honestly all 3 pistols you've chosen, for what you've chosen them for, are excellent. But each one is different. So what matters is, how it feels for YOU. Just like test driving a car. A Lamborghini is good a Ferrari is good, but only one of them will 'speak to you' as you operate it. So don't buy anything until you've tested it. Only then will you know which one is right for YOU." Damn - good advice. Dude disappears almost as quickly as he appeared. So I go back to the counter and ask the dude, "Is there any place I can go to like, test-drive these things?" The guy seems kinda hesitant to say anything (because he sees that I'm not gonna buy now), and mumbles some stuff, but I hear the words "Sportsman Elite" (SE) REVIEW: I took to the old trusty Yelp app immediately. Place the call and (unfortunately for the guy) told him that entire backstory. I ask questions: *Do you have a range? - Yes *Is it an INDOOR range? - Yes *Do you "rent" firearms to be used at your range? - Yes *Do you have: Glock 43, S&W M&P Shield, XD-S .45 that I can shoot/test? - Yes, Yes, Yes And SO much more. SE is a locally owned shop, and a wonderful place with excellent staff and service. I found the pricing to be very fair. $16 for use of a lane on the range (no time limit). $10 for unlimited "rental" of a firearm (same caliber) or $15 for multiple calibers. Done shooting one? Just take it back to the front and exchange for another (only 1 weapon on the range at a time). The only other charge associated with renting is they require you to purchase ammunition from them. Boxes come in 50 count at around $20 per box. Bring your own gun? Cool. Use your own ammo too and only pay range fee. They also have a "Happy Hour" where range is only $8. From a fully auto SMG via your Call of Duty game, to a teeny little .22 pistol; Sportsman Elite has EXACTLY what you need/want for rent AND purchase. I love this place and can't wait to go back and test weapons or even fire my own. Ask about memberships too! I seriously love this place!! read more

Cool range with nice firearm and archery selection. The shop area also sells a variety of flashlights, pepper spray options, knives, binoculars, shirts and random survival things like desert scarves. There are firearms to rent and there was info posted on their walls about taking classes, monthly events like youth archery and "girls with guns" events. We shot for about an hour - the staff were very friendly even though we stayed until closing and even kept them there for 5 more minutes because we bought some ammo (sorry guys!) The facility is well kept and clean and the safety video and waiver for first time shooters didn't take too long. Overall, a fun experience. read more

This range looks to be very great. They have a nice shop and great lanes. I signed up for a month to month membership over the summer which was a great deal but the employees and managers don't seem to know how to work the system. They signed me up for a year contract by accident and will not cancel the membership nor reimburse for their mistakes. I have been getting charged the monthly fee since August and don't even live there anymore. I call every month and they say they will reimburse and take care of the problem every time with no result. Ruined the experience for me. Won't ever shoot there again read more

I went to this store twice and both times had the worst service that I have ever had in El Paso.

UNSAFE RANGE!!! I have patronized this business since they opened on Mesa, before they had a range. Employees have always been very friendly and helpful. This is one of the reasons I kept coming back and why this rating gets 2 stars and not one. The primary reason I have gone there is the beautiful range they have. Unfortunately over the past years supervision of the range has drastically decreased. With this I have witnessed an increasing number of safety violations. I have reported the most serious ones but have not witnessed any change in supervision. Today's experience unfortunately ended my patronage of this range. There are no range safety officers directly on the range. The range is split into two sections separated by a metal door with a small window. The range has surveillance of the firing lanes and the video feed is displayed on a monitor in a far corner of the store. To far away for staff to observe any meaningful detail. Staff is usually preoccupied with the sales floor. New shooters are required to view a very nice safety video before entering the range. It states the usual rules of gun safety. It also states firearms are to be cased and uncased at the firing line only, kept with the action open and unloaded when not in use. As my daughter and I entered the first room on a table behind the firing line (wall opposite the firing line) I see a number of pistols laying on the table actions open and a woman loading magazines. This arrangement will cause uncased guns to move from the back wall to the firing line. As we enter the second part of the range this scene is repeated but in this case multiple handguns with actions closed and magazines in the pistols. We uncase our pistols at the firing line and i proceed to load magazines at the back table. The owner of the pistols on the table places a pistol on the table and negligently aims it at me while doing so. It's now pointed at the entrance. I ask him to please not point a gun at me. He responds with an indignant "what". I point out the safety violations and he removes the magazines and locks the actions open all while at the back table. He then decides to leave and starts packing up. Thinking he has stowed all his weapons I approach the table as he loads a pistol I didn't see and points it at me while placing it in a holster. I go out and notify staff. I came back in and see a man in the first room working the action on a rifle while standing behind a group on the firing line. I decide to shoot anyway with my daughter watching my back. Halfway through a magazine I hear her call out. A man and woman in the next room, standing behind the firing line and other people shooting, are looking down on a revolver she is pointing it towards his head. Finger on the trigger! I decide to pack up and leave. I tell the staff on the way out why I am upset and get the usual response. They are busy and will try to increase walk throughs as well as check the footage on the security cameras. I see no staff go to check the range. This is not the first time but it was the worst and for me the last. read more

Sportsman's elite is outstanding. I came in today for my LTC Course and it was great. The instructor named Richard was very professional and thoroughly discussed the ins and outs of carrying a firearm including gun safety, down to state laws and other aspects of everyday carry. I appreciate how much the instructor emphasizes firearm safety. Richard also guided the students through the LTC application process and answered any and all questions. The range is awesome. Very nice lanes and the A/C and air filtration is top notch. I've purchased and transferred several firearms here in the past, most recently a Glock 19X which I used to qualify for the LTC. I'd like to mention Dave and the other staff behind the counter are also all very friendly and knowledgeable. The establishment is very nice as well with a great selection of firearms and optics on display. My only gripe would be the $40 transfer fee. One time I picked up 3 rifles there and I paid a $120 transfer fee. Perhaps a $25-$30 transfer fee and or a cap on fees when purchasing multiple firearms would be a great idea. Other than that, anyone looking to acquire the LTC, purchase/transfer a firearm or just get some range time in, this is the place. They even have an archery range, which is amazing. All in all, this place gets 5 stars for being the best gun shop and indoor range in El Paso. read more

I've visited Sportsman's a couple of other times for the range and the children's archery classes. This time, I took the Intro to Handguns class. The instructor, Marcos, is very knowledgeable, patient, and helpful. He knows his stuff and helped me and my classmates when we had issues ranging from weapons jamming up to proper placement of thumbs. Additionally, the other staff members at SE are really helpful and kind. I'll definitely continue to visit Sportsman's Elite when I'm in town. read more

I've gone to a few gun shops where the employees just mean-mug you from behind the counter the whole time and it's an irritating experience. They also have a pretty good indoor range. The range isn't a bad price. It is indoors though. The customer service is weak. There are a couple people there that are helpful and care about helping you. Seems like they are low staffed as well. I called beforehand to ask for a specific part and without the employee actually going to see if they had any more he told me that they did have it. I drove 20 minutes to get there only to find out they actually didn't have it. I also went on a saturday and stood at the counter for 45 minutes and I was not even greeted. I like the atmosphere and the people. Very friendly staff and great to work with. The only thing Ive knocked off the stars for is the price. The range is extremely high for firearm rental. The most Ive ever paid for a rental has been $15. This place rents fire arms at $50. Most of the time I bring my own firearm but my girlfriend wanted to go to the range and I didnt want to drive across town to pack my gear. Our range date turned out to be roughly $70. Also, if you ever privately purchase a firearm from outside the shop, the transfer fee is $40. The highest ive paid has been $25 from Quantico Tactical. Cabelas transfer fees are $25 plus tax. Just be aware that they are very expensive. Aside from the prices, its a nice shop with great staff. read more

Counter guys are usually preoccupied with themselves. I always feel like I'm imposing when I go in and I've spent $3000 in the past year there. They always seem like they'd rather be doing something else. Almost an impatient attitude. Feel like I don't belong there so I won't. Plenty of other gun shops in El Paso and they offer nothing unique.... Oh yea! I forgot! last year I bought a Colt 1911 at a premium. After shooting for a week I noticed it was not accurate and the rear sight was off. I took it in to see if they could center it for me. One of the counter guys a "1911 expert" gives it a try and gives me back my 1911 with no improvement but actually dented and smashed the sight by using the wrong tool. he handed it back with a "sorry, we can order new sight for you but we wait till we have a large order" Said it may be several weeks and could not tell me when the real gunsmith would be in and if he could quickly repair the damage he did. Shrug of shoulders... and I've not spent a dime there since! Seriously! They damage your fire arm and just hand it back with no firm remedy and vague promises?! They should have quickly told me when the gunsmith was in and ordered the part right away. Who cares if they have to pay retail, they broke it! I was actually totally cool with it and ordered the part myself but still could never get a time for their gunsmith to fix and was told I'd have to leave it up to 2 weeks! To replace a sight they broke! I'm not posting this to whine but recently have called about availability of other items and the phone guys have the same kind of impatient attitude, offer very little in the way of information. The store has potential and honestly not every time I went in was it like this, but more than half the time and coupled with damaging my 1911 and not fixing it asap warrants a one star. Manager needs to get these guys more on point for sales and tell them not to be engaged in personal conversations about football that are more important than customers. read more

Great place very friendly, guns are not that expensive as the guy bellow says. I saw same prices as academy, ammo is more expensive but I think thanks to that horders dont bulk purchase there. I am not worried about ammo price since they let you take your own, besides eventually prices will normalize and you always have the option to buy some rounds if you feel you want to keep shooting. As I havent mentioned they got a 12 lane range and I became a member. Its only a monthly fee and targets, so the place is not expensive. They got to make some money like anyone else. But the only thing thats really overprices is ammo. They always answer my stupid questions and I will keep going there. But its stupid to compare online gun prices to any store, online stores dont have employees that go every day and do not pay rent. I like to buy in places like this because it helps the community around us. If we all just bought everything online, they would have to raise the prices of the ranges and most stores would end up closing. So if you dont got no ranch, this is the place for you. read more

I was directed to this store by a fellow shooter who had told me that the salesmen there were very helpful and kind. I took the first opportunity I had to go and visit and see whats up. As I entered, there were about 2 customers and about 4 people working in there. I'm guessing from the stares I recieved from the 4 guys in there that I must have been wearing my "I LOVE OBAMA" t-shirt. No "Welcome sir" or "Hi, with you in a sec...", just plain and simple silence. The two guys who were unattended remained unconcerned with my presence. One went to the back room and another decided to simply flip through a magazine, so I went up to the counter and waited. I harrumphed and cleared my throat, the universal sign of "I'd like some help please." Still nothing. Finally, after waiting for quite some time, one dude decided he could be bothered enough to help me after finishing his Guns & Ammo magazine. I asked if he could help me with an issue I was having with some spent shells I would like refitted or if he knew where I could sell them, or if he was willing to buy them. You know, simple chatter to get to know these guys better and get them to know me. He gave me short answers and would stare at me like a character out of Oblivion, and would only direct me to other stores. I asked about gun prices and about if they sold used guns, and he really seemed to just want me out of his store. (Understand I wasn't raising my voice or being malignant, I just wanted some help but I only seemed to be irritating this man.) Finally, I offered to shake his hand after giving a much un-deserved thanks and he awkwardly shook it as if I had just picked my nose with it. All in all, I would take my business to Academy. Helping someone feel welcome usually ends up with you making a sale. read more

I frequently drop by and sometimes buy things that I need and other times just look, chat and handle some things that I may be interested in buying in the future. Occasionally I'll ask questions about things that even though they may not carry, they will engage in conversation about what they do know about things not on their shelf or on their "to buy" list. The staff are all wonderful, and the range is excellent. I've read all of the comments, and as a small business owner myself, the folks who posted negative comments are exactly the kinds of people one doesn't want to be coming through the front door. Those kinds of people are just wasting an employee's time, and the in attention paid to them was actually very good insight on the employee's part. I wish Sportsman's Elite all the best. Pretty nice range to avoid the heat or crappy weather we have in El Paso sometimes. Only dislike is no shotguns in the range. As far as firearms, accessories and ammo, they have a large selection and a nice variety of used firearms. I can challenge anyone to not find what you want.
