This Dick's Sporting Goods is a chain retail store in South Hills Village mall. It sells merchandise such as workout clothes and sneakers for adults and children, sports equipment (e.g., baseball, basketball, fishing, football, golf, hockey, soccer, and bicycling), exercise equipment (e.g., ellipticals, treadmills, and weights), etcetera. I shop here mostly to browse the women's workout clothes. The store is a large size across multiple floors with escalators and is packed full with merchandise. I am not interested in purchasing certain brands such as Calia and Abercrombie and Fitch, so I would prefer that other brands be offered. I do like the t-shirts for Penn State and the Pittsburgh Penguins. I thought that the quality was high but that the prices were also high. read more

I have gotten so much baseball equipment from Dick's and they were great quality. For example, I got compression shorts and a cup which were great, a batting helmet, also great quality, good cleats, a glove, which was very, very, very good quality, and a baseball bag. Another great thing is that they have online shopping, like most stores do, so you can buy something that they might not have in the closest Dick's near you. read more

I went to this store today and I wish I could remember the name of the store manager that I spoke with ( I think his name starts with a "J"). Never in my life have a gone to Dick's and had such a pleasant encounter with an employee. He was incredibly friendly to the customers in the store and his brief conversations just made me smile. It's not often you come across someone with that kind of magnetic energy. He left a great impression and I thought it deserved recognition! We went into the store to order a treadmill. Service was okay. We had to go hunt for someone to help us, and the kid who did help us seemed kinda like he had a whatevs attitude, but can you fault him? The treadmill was a decent price and we got it on sale too. We had a little hiccup with the delivery, which I partly blame on myself and partly the installer. He was a super nice guy, but totally convinced me that my 6ft husband could stand on the treadmill and run in our low ceiling basement. My husband came home and stood on it, with literally 2 inches to spare. So the location was definitely not going to work. We had a little back and forth with the installer about how to move it on our own, but ultimately realized there was no way we could do it. The installer claimed Dick's would charge $300 to have him move it. So I called Dick's and explained what was happening and they immediately assigned the installer to come back out and move it to another part of our house free of charge. Now we are all set and I'm really happy to have this in our house! read more

Friendly and helpful staff. Older gentleman in the shoe department is fantastic. Wonderful stock of calia and underarmer. Never a line for checkout. Sometimes the selection is not what it is online but has most things we need in store. Would love to see more maternity workout gear and outdoor clothes and shoes for small children. read more

I have been here several times to buy sporting attire and think this is a great place for sporting goods. The negative reviews seem very specific, and are far removed from what I have experienced. This is a big store with two levels and I think it's nicely laid out. The merchandise is organized well and aisles are wide. It's easy to navigate through the store. The selection of merchandise is excellent, in particular for athletic wear. I've bought many different items of clothing for running and working out and have found exactly what I need. Prices are high for the brand name merchandise like Nike and Under Armour, but that's par for the course Service has been friendly and people on the floor have asked me if I need help, but no one is too pushy. You can spend a lot of time without being bothered. There's are plenty of fitting rooms and I've never had to wait. I haven't bought any equipment here, only clothes. If you're in the market for athletic wear, this is a good place to go. read more

Nice clean store with typical Dick's employees being helpful and checking in. I realize this wasn't a Dick's with a Field and Stream store but the fishing section was lacking. I go to Dick's pretty often and I always have a good experience. Staff is always willing to help and is always friendly. When they don't have what I need in store they always help me find which locations have what I need or help me get it ordered to the store online. Returns and checking out are always smooth. Went to Dicks Sporting today at South Hills Village for a Christmas shopping day! We had the most helpful shoe associate, Scott. He took the time to help my sister find a good pair of shoes for her narrow feet while also making sure she liked them and was happy! Customer service and management is a joke. My girlfriend and I purchased bikes after being persuaded by the bike lead that if the bikes aren't a right fit, then bring them back. Not once were we informed of their unfair return policy. I love my bike, but my girlfriend did not like hers after riding on it for less than a mile. It just didn't feel right to her. So I packed it in the car with receipt and paperwork in hand, walked into the store and inquired about returning the bike to a cashier who immediately retrieved the store manager. I don't remember the guy's name, but he's middle aged and surly. A total jerk. He explained that it was policy not to refund bikes because they have been used and the store would lose money. "The tires are worn, anyway." "No they're not. Just a little dust. Those tires have less than a mile on them", I said. "She could have rode the bike upstairs to see if was a right fit. Customers do that all the time." "How was I to know that. The bike lead informed us if the bikes aren't a right fit, bring them back." "Sorry. That's our policy." Walks away. What an ass! Not once were we informed about the no refund policy. Otherwise, we would have not made the purchase. This is such unfair and sketchy business practice. What if you purchase a bike as a gift for someone, and it is not a good fit. Oh well, it's now used and we would take a hit if we offered a refund. So, the company is more worried about losing on a $350 bike than losing a customer who could potentially spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars per year. Some good did come out of this. My girlfriend, who has more balls than I do, called in an explained without being angry, but firm, why they should refund the purchase. I'm not going to go in detail, but she is very persuasive. And it was refunded. As I did some research, and it seems like DICKS is notorious for poor customer service and a strict return policy. It's funny. I believe they are trained to say the same lines when it come to returns with bikes. Almost verbatim from what I read of other customer complaints. Bottom line, inquire about the return policy before purchasing any item in these stores. They don't care about you as a valued customer. I will never shop at DICKS again. They lost me and a few others who are turned off by our experience. read more

It was so COLD outside. Even the locals were scurrying to get coats, imagine how a thin-blooded Floridian feels. Talk about being prepared for this onslaught of warmth-seeking customers, the store was packed. I couldn't quite tell if it was because they packed in so many items or if it was just because the coats, hats, gloves, etc. were just that big in comparison to what I see in Florida. It was very difficult to get through the sales floor either way. I was able to find my coat, beanie, gloves, and long johns and get out of there. I've been coming here for awhile and every time I gotta say I'm disappointed. I would consider my self a outdoors/active person. I find my self always coming here when I can't get to a more sport specific store. The biking department here is a joke and has way overpriced beginner bikes. I've bought a few things here from the fishing department when I've had gift cards or needed something on a fly. I've even come here to pick up targets and ammo. Lately I've found my self just going around to outdoor stores to build up my camping gear and hiking packs for me and my girlfriend and yet again I'm so disappointed with how little choices are here. There's no small one or two person backpacking tents, only a few sleeping bag choices, no hammock camping gear just the hammock it's self with straps, not much of a option for portable cooking gear or sleeping pads. So it's just a bit upsetting that dicks is just a big name store but it slacks in a lot of areas and not really geared tords the true outdoors person. Overall I'll most likely still come here for convenience but it's still over priced and not exactly perfect. read more

Am in the same boat as the other reviews. Bought Diamondback bikes and have to keep bringing them back. (DON'T BUY DIAMONDBACK BIKES FROM DICK'S) Management is the problem here. Today I had the pleasure of dealing with Kelly (store manager) concerning my bike problem and associated frustration. She provided; no help, no concern, no solution and no knowledge. She did, however, express that she didn't like the way I was speaking to her... Yeah, explaining my problem with expectation she would do something about it. Horrible customer service, waited for a half hour as they tried to find a price on batting bag. Then told me it was $34.99 when the sticker said $19.99. When asked to speak to a manager the employee said I "CLAIMED" that I found it with the $19.99 bags. I did not "CLAIM" to find it there that is where it was. I'm sure they could check there cameras and see for themselves. Then the manager tells me that someone must of put it there. I've worked in retail and good companies work to solve the problem not just oh well. I will for now on do my business with Dunhams. This store is very organized and tidy; however the staff is completely dissatisfying. You're lucky if you receive any form of acknowledgement in this store. In all of my visits, the employees are just standing around and flippin' the breeze with one another and if you ask one of them a question, don't be surprised if they look at you like they are being rudely interrupted. To make matters worse, they have poor product knowledge overall. Do yourself a favor, research whatever you plan on buying online and either buy it online for much cheaper or go to a local specialty store to support their business. read more

Yeah I have to agree with most. I went to SHV to buy some Winchester shotshells that were on sale and at checkout they overcharged me. I then showed them their deal online and they could only be bought in stores but she called over the mgr and she called upstairs and was told that the items I bought had a rebate by mail....wrong, it was Remington that had a rebate not Winchester. The 'tards upstairs didn't bother to look I bet and just assumed everything there was a rebate. The effin mgr then said that's our policy bs and I started to get steamed so I said I don't care what your policy is your wrong and I am right....ever hear the old saying "customer is always right" ofcourse that doesn't always hold true but none the less, in this case I was. The mgr showed me her bad attitude but conceded and I got a credit. If you must shop there always have back up and proof of any sale items even if you have to drag the signs to the checkout and don't take crap from the mgr, speak your mind. read more

Wow. I agree with Mike C on this one. I was absolutely amazed by this Dicks Sporting Goods. It was absolutely the worst looking location I have ever been in. It seems so out of place since it is such a nice area, but they are opening up a new location inside the South Hills Village Mall, so that should turn this review right around. Also, I had to wait 15 mins for some help with the golf section. Not to mention this store lacks a practice room. I really like the new Dick's but I HATE shopping there because of the fitting room situation. It's one room and you have to have someone open it for you every time you go in. I was looking for sports bras and running clothes so I had to go in multiple times and it was really annoying and a little embarrassing. I've finally reached my breaking point with this store. Every time I shop in this store for fishing supplies, I get screwed at the register because some idiot employee doesn't give a damn about their job and just stocks stuff anywhere. And it's not just one thing. NOTHING seemed to be stocked with the right price! So NOW, instead of getting what you THOUGHT was a deal on, say, a lure, you get stiffed by paying their regular, jacked-up price. What good is advertising the price on the end of the hook if it's not even the damn item ON the hook!! Ya gotta read all the fine print with these guys! Happened again, and when I mentioned this to the older gentleman working in the gun department (since he seemed to be the only employee around), he seemed to not even so much as to give a damn. I've seen this exact same kind of lack of pride in jobs, and flippant attitude toward customers, before. Guess what? They no longer exist, cause people got tired of the b.s.. I had the worst experience of my life at this dicks sporting goods at 301 S. I am black. I had a home invasion and went into buy a shotgun pretty standard 12 gauge. I own several firearms and have been shooting since I was a teen. When I got there I was verified, no felonies, then told by what I can guess is their best excuse for a manager that I didn't look like I should own a gun and when we argued he whispered nigger under his breathe. I almost punched him on the spot but then I'd be the criminal he obviously assumed I was. Meanwhile I have a job go to Georgetown University and followed all procedures. This location needs to get out of the 20's. I half expected them to string me up by the neck. I will find Keith last name, my dads a lawyer and will blast his name and address. I've actually had positive shopping experiences at this DICK'S, both purchasing items in-store and picking up online orders. Boots paid for via the website were picked and ready to go for me at the front (non mall side) check-out area when I walked in, and a printed receipt with hand-signed confirmation that the box contained 1 R & 1 L boot, both same size, was a nice touch. And when I decided to buy a pair of winter hiking boots on a whim while browsing, I was able to convince the register lady to price-match against a pretty obscure online-only vendor, which saved me $20. I'm not a huge fan of the hunting and fishing staff, as the older guys I've interacted with are surly and a bit too enthusiastic about killing coyotes and wanting to show you pictures and give you their personal business card to (presumably) charge you to kill your coyotes. Weird. But whatever. For a pretty new, multi-floor store, it always seems slightly cluttered or messy, not helped by how they just dump piles of clearance shoes on folding tables in the middle of the main traffic aisles. They have a good selection of licensed Pittsburgh team jerseys, but a pretty lame selection of hats. Besides the killers in hunting/fishing, everyone else seems pretty normal and no employees that I've interacted with have lied to get me to buy something or been jerks. read more
