If you are a golf player and are looking to get a club fixed by the pro, don't even try. Just go somewhere else. The pro genuinely is never in. I tried on 3 different occasions and on the third the manager just told me to order the shaft and do it myself. Even the manager realizes that the pro overcharges for the simple tasks he is charged to complete. Shout out to the manager for doing my friend's grip. The pro is so unreliable that the manager has to take on extra responsibility. Good on him. I mean you would expect a "PRO" to actually be in the golf section. As a student it is not easy to get off campus to the Dick's(Properly named) so getting an uber is not ideal. Just go to a pga or the penn state course, or do it yourself because the pro is extremely unreliable. read more

Haven't been in here for a while and I now know why. The "Kid" that checked me out was "Dick". Barely got a word out from him and he rolled his eyes when I asked him if he knew if the balance was on the receipt from my gift card. Now I know why they call it Dicks!!!! Thank god Dunham Sports opened up in State College. I'll take my business there from now on. They have a much better atmosphere with people and a better selection of items. Kiss off Dicks. read more

Good selection of different golf club grips and different sizes. And a journeyman job of installing them properly in a matter of hours.

Sure, this place is pretty big, but the selection is really lacking. I came here looking for compression socks, which I thought would have been an easy find, but sadly, this was nowhere to be found. To make matters even more ridiculous, the sales associate told me to go find what I needed at another store downtown. Another wasted trip. Well, aside from my failed trip, this place does pretty much have everything you'd expect from a sporting goods store. From shoes, golf, apparel, to equipment, all the basics can be found here at Dick's. Prices here are pretty much at MSRP, so if you can find it cheaper online, then that's always the way to go. Dick's, granted, is in a pretty convenient location. It is right in the same shopping center as Wegman's, Target, and Kohl's. Dick's, you have the basic stuff such as bats and golf clubs, but when it comes to things such as socks, then you kind of suck. I would think that a big conglomerate such as you would at least have a little bit of everything, but alas, you have sent me to a mom and pop shop to accept my money. read more

Closing at 7pm Sunday's during the summer is not helpful to your customers. Forcing customers to fill out additional paperwork (not required by law) when purchasing a firearm is off putting and not needed. Firearm prices are average to below average considering your national buying power. Generally, ammo is overpriced. Most "high end" items like Nike and UA are priced at retail. When they do go on sale, the items are so picked over that you better be a men's small. Try stuff on then buy it online. Kids sportswear is the main reason to go here. Selection is usually good. Prices are poor to average. But they got ya! Ordering multiple things online then returning what doesn't fit can be a pain. The staff is usually hard to find (except at footwear) but helpful when you do. Stopping the sale of AR's after Sandy Hook was ridiculous. Doubling down on stupid 3/2018 and stopping sale of them at F&S locations is taking thirst chains a direction I won't support.... read more

I go here when I have to. It is true, the associates are helpful, generally, within the limit of what their store can provide and how they have been trained. "is there anything else I can help you with? I see you are just browsing, but can I help you with anything else? Are you sure that there is nothing else I can help you with? At some point, fairly early on, they are not helpful. They have a generally wide range, but in the details, not the range of Rapid Transit when RT stocks stuff (that place is packed, and is very helpful without going too far). But, when at the cashier, the first thing out of your mouth is 'email please', then you lose me right there, and for good. You don't need my email to give me a good and fair price. read more

This is a pretty respectable Dicks. It seems like lots of stores in State College are a bit on the small side, but this one is plenty big. It's got a big golf section, all the baller stuff, lots of workout clothes. It has some exercise machines, but frankly I would have expected more. The main area I like to go to is the lodge. That's where the hunting and fishing stuff is. This is central pennsylvania and we are in the middle of hunting terretory, but you can't get guns anywhere else in state college. Too many college students and liberal professors, I guess. Anyway, it's the closest place around that has guns and ammo, so it's where I always end up. They have a pretty good selection. A big wall there with a representative sample of any kind of gun you might want and then they have a bunch in the back. The people are always real friendly and have been willing to take the time to show me all their guns and discuss with me. I haven't yet purchased one, but I probably will soon. It's a bit annoying, though, that they have guards over all the triggers, you can't really get a sense of what they feel like. To me it seems a little paranoid. There are plenty of other shops in the world that don't have those guards and they aren't getting shot up by deranged customers all the time. They have an ok selection of hunting clothes, gun safes, and other such stuff as well. They have a reasonable, but not great, selection of ammo. The staff is nice all over the store. I go there with my 5-year-old daughter sometimes and they don't get too annoying when she wanders down the isle. This being the East coast everyone likes to get in your business and bug you when your kids wander around. Anyway, these guys are some of the least bad. Every time I go there, the place is almost empty. Maybe I go at strange times, but there are practically always as many employees as customers. read more

I stopped into Dick's to look for the perfect pair of socks for my new rain boots. Instead of trekking all over the store to find them I simply asked a sales associate, and she thought for a moment and said follow me. We found these cotton sock liners for rain boots -- they sounded perfect. I bought two pair. Then my dad and I walked over to the golf section to look at their new golf shoes. We chatted with someone in that section although he admitted he didn't work in that section...but he still bantered with us about the difference between spikes and spider spikes. Both people were really nice. The only thing that was troubling was that when we were checking out, a fella had brought in a coupon...but you had to buy $X worth of stuff to use it...the cashier said, "you're a penny short." So he sighed and she used a lesser coupon in his collection. I asked, "can't he just give you the penny to make it the right amount?" But my dad told me to butt out. Anyway, I just thought that was lame. You had the chance to make that dude's day, but you gave it up for ONE PENNY. Pretty sure customer loyalty is worth more than that when you're next to a Target. read more

**Update** A filed complaint received a swift response and apology from a customer service agent from corporate. The agent relayed my complaint to the store manager at Dick's and the manager called me personally and assured me that the sort of behavior that I experienced is not acceptable and that that is not how she runs her store. We talked through the incident and she told me that due to there being more than one employee that matched the description that I gave, that no one person could be directly spoken with. Instead, she said that they would use it as a training opportunity and present all of the employees with that scenario. She ended by apologizing again, offering coupons, and inviting me back to the store. I deeply appreciate the speed with which I was contacted by both corporate and the store manager. It shows, in my view at least, a real concern regarding customer service issues and a willingness to fairly resolve the issue at hand. Thanks! **** Dick's carries top-end goods, but they boast low-end attitudes. I've never been impressed with the over-all customer service that I've encountered here over the years, but a recent experience with an openly rude employee (who also seems to have a track record of treating customers poorly) sealed the deal. I'm more than willing to take my money to where I'm treated with common courtesy; even at the expense of paying a higher price for goods. My opinion? Does Dick's carry good products? Yes. Are there other local stores that carry the same thing AND will treat you with respect? Oh my yes; yes by a long shot. I won't waste my time in this store any more. read more

A very good attempt at a sporting goods store. Usually have something that you are looking for. Don't expect a wide brand selection sizing can be trouble also. If you see something online and want to try it beforehand good luck. Hunting and fishing...forget it. read more
