Stop thinking and go to Diego's! This is such a gem in McAllen. We were visiting for a weekend and stopped by on a friends recommendation and had the absolute best experience. The restaurant itself is so cute with fun boho decor and a bomb playlist. There's both indoor and shaded/fanned outdoor seating with was lovely on a cool evening! The food itself was definitely the star. We tried their special "pizza" appetizer (which was super yummy bread with tomato dip and a cheese topping) and the marmalade which was soooooo yummy and such a perfect light snack of goat cheese with a little jam. For our entrees we tried the steak tacos and the pork belly fettuccine. The tacos were soooooo yummy and came as 5 small tacos with all the fixings on the plate that you could add to your liking. It also came with their fries which were incredible and addicting. The tacos came with a mild salsa and a really spicy salsa which were both on the side so you can season to taste. I personally loved the spicy! The pork belly fettuccine was also incredible with melt in your mouth meat. For dessert we had the crazy carrot cake which was warm and light. For drinks we tried Mexican coke, black rice horchata, and the habanero melon mint drink which were all hits with the table, and not too spicy! Lastly the hospitality was 10/10. I was there for one night and wanted something that wasn't a chain. I'm so happy I found this place. It was a Sunday and it was busy with a great dj playing 90s dance hits! Amazing covered patio seating. They had two vegan options and I went with the tacos. They were so good with all the fixing and all the hot sauces! The guacamole here is more on the lime side and I loved that. If you're vegan/plant based, the salsa they serve when you sit will have queso. You can request without. I come here to share the most special I experience I had at Diego's. Firstly, I have been a regular at this restaurant since I moved to the valley at the end of 2023. At that time Diego's was just a local food truck with creative culinary pazazz. The lamb burger is ultimately my favourite item on the menu! The quality of food is phenomenal! Diego's makes a beet salad which is so refreshing and all the taste come together. The wait staff is always pleasant and you can usually meet Diego who serves his customers with a genuine smile. I visited a couple weeks ago and I'm on a hard journey at this time with my health, Diego the owner went out of his way to make accommodate me after I shared & made me feel uniquely special. I watched him the rest of my time dining and saw he does this with all his patrons. There's something about a business that actually pours into the community & sees the people sincerely. The food is not only great, but the atmosphere when I visit is always refreshing. Some nights there is live music perfect for a night out on a date or to go times with friends or family. I don't know what took me so long to finally try this place out. We went during Happy Hour with a group of friends. Everything that we tried was so good and their Happy Hour Menu was such a great deal. We started off with the Cherry Tomatoes with the goats cheese in it. I thought I hated goats cheese but it paired so well with the cherry tomatoes that I will be getting it again. The Crispy Rice Tenderloin and lobster were absolutely delicious. Highly recommend them. I personally ordered the Lobster Roll. I asked the waiter if he had to choose between the hamburger or the lobster roll which he would choose. He told me he would surprise me which I loved. When the food came out it was a lobster roll. The bread was soft butter and crispy along the edges and the lobster and caviar on top was Devine. My fried order the Tacos which she gave me one. The meat was soft and the green salsa was so good. The Lobster Grilled Cheese looked really good and it was a big portion. All of the meals were served with fries and topped with cheese. My sister and I came here for dinner. They have a huge outdoor patio and a small indoor area. I loved the all the greenery and low lights. There was grapes on vines outside our window overlooking part of the patio. There is another building which I think is a kitchen a few feet away. The staff were nice and always checked on us. The parking is free and out front. We ordered black rice horchata, amazing and almost bought another one to go, and we shared three entrees. The beet salad was amazing. The lobster and seaweed grilled cheese sandwich was super cheesy, it has grilled cheese on the outside of the sandwich. The fries and lamb burger were okay. Another spot I stumbled across when going into The Dive on 495. This place is a jewel, a farm to table swanky kinda joint. A great place to take someone on for a 3rd date as the mood lighting and ambience are perfect. The food was wonderful without being pretentious. I got the steak quesadilla which was pretty off the chain. Washed it down with a glass of red wine. The service was excellent and my server was seemingly excited to be waiting on me. Food is Delish! We all ordered different foods, I got the Lobster Roll with Caviar, the hubby got the Pork Belly, we also ordered a 1/4 pound Provenza & a 1/4 pund Lamb Burger with Goat Cheese. I can go on & on about the Lobster. You can taste the butter wine sauce in every bite. Soooo goood. Heard about this place in Texas Highways & we had to come & try it. Don't be fooled by the name this is no ordinary food truck! While the kitchen appears to be housed in a food truck this is a full blown restaurant with ample outdoor dining and an indoor space as well. We were greeted by a friendly server who shared the off menu specials before we got down to the business of choosing our food. While we perused the menu chips and warm salsa sprinkled with cheese was brought to our table. Delicious! The salsa was a tomato pure with hints of basil. We decided to start with the beet salad as well as the grilled cheese for appetizers. Both exceeded our expectations!! The beet salad could have been a whole meal. Over the top amazing! My son ordered the lobster grilled cheese sandwich that came with fried. He could finish it there was soooo much food!!! The only reason this is not a 5 star is the fact that we were charged $6/bottle for water and we're not informed in advance of the charge The menu doesn't list water as a beverage or we would have tried one of their incredible options since we had to pay anyway. I had never even heard of this truck until a few weeks ago. My coworkers have not shut up about it since they first went. Finally went last night, and with all the hype around it, my expectations were still exceeded. The owner of the truck comes and takes your orders, talks you through the menu, explains where the food comes from, and was overall very hospitable. The lamb burger has an incredible salty, sweet, fatty flavor from the lamb, jam and cheese they add into it. Honestly one of the best tasting burgers I've ever had. Ok so this review is solely based on me as a BIG guy with social anxiety. Part of my process of getting past it is to try to be adventurous and try new places. This was one of the places on my list. The food was very tasty although very small portioned for its price... that being said totally worth it if you are willing to pay. The service is 100% great! They were on top of everything at our table of 5. Great staff! Ok so here is where we get to the 4 Star for me! I'm a big guy... 5'9" 415lbs... the tables outside are really low and hit my knees. The chars are a thin metal bars with a black wicker weave for the seat and backrest. Also they are very narrow. I was able to sit in them but my legs were in a whole lot of pain!!!!! At night the outside sheeting is beautiful but on the weekends they have a live singer. This night the guy singing was good... but way too loud. I couldn't hear my wife who was sitting right next to me. I really wanted to give this place the biggest 5 Star... but because of the seating and the loudness I have to do a 4. They had Italian night when I went, and I ordered a toast appetizer and oxtail papardelle. The food that I got was amazing! Everything tasted fresh and you could tell the pasta was handmade. The cocktails were great. The staff very nice, but there were some issues with the service. It was an extremely hot day and they only offered liter of water for $6. The server didn't seem to know or care what was on the menu. The server and kitchen staff did not communicate with each other and I waited 20 mins in the heat for a dessert that wasn't available. I am visiting the area for the month and was looking for a place that serves a good burger. After looking at reviews, I came across Diego's Food Truck that served farm to table food and everyone was talking about the Lamb burger. I ended up trying the Provenza lamb burger and it was delicious. It was well seasoned with an onion jam and goat cheese on top that added a nice taste to it. Am glad we remembered to swing by and try Diego's Food Truck. Shared a grilled beet salad with my wife that was very fresh and tasty...and I am not really a fan of beets. Here at Diego's farm to table food truck, you MUST try their Hibiscus Lemonade! There is a tomatoes appetizer that is super good, comes with home made bread, and cheese on top, and the tomato dipping sauce. It has goat cheese in the sauce, be advised, I'm not a goat cheese person, so I'd recommend order it w out the goat cheese. Bone marrow is good and there is steak chicharrones that come with it, small tacos with that and some guacamole. Not a dinner size, but the marrow will serve as a good appetizer as well.
