It's been years in the making for this review as our child has long since graduated, but after…read morereflection I feel it necessary to reveal our experience at SFC Schools. Our child attended this " Christian place of learning" from 3rd-10th grade and the end result was us removing him from a very bad situation. The lower and middle schools were ok, although their academic standards are so low, it's actually a misleading misnomer to call it a Blue Ribbon School. However, the upper school is a cauldron of ugly, political, elitist, bullying poison that is condoned and promoted by unqualified teachers and administrators concerned only with the largest donors' kids. Our child was subjected to incessant bullying and verbal abuse by unchecked peers and was ostracized by faculty, administrators and coaches when it was brought to their attention. The best move we ever made was to remove our child from that place and return them to public school - where they flourished. But there was one ugly surprise during the transition - the academic level was so poor at SFC that our child had to take extra courses to catch up to the other students. Thankfully the new counselors guided us through this and by the start of Senior year, it was reconciled completely. DO NOT ever consider sending your child to this school past the lower levels unless you want them to be harassed or to turn out like the students who are harassing good kids out of spite and meanness. Our child was marred by it for many years and it feels good to finally write this after years of silence.

That experience showed us how important a relationship-based learning environment is for helping students feel engaged, challenged, and supported. We are grateful for the wonderful faculty and staff and the positive effect they have had not only on our children's love for learning but also their personal and social-emotional growth. From the outside, TCPS may not appear to be a top-rated school, but inside it is filled with warmth, kindness, respect, engaging learning experiences, and strong family involvement. We have had two children at LePort Solana Beach and have experienced their infant, toddler, and…read moreprimary programs. It has been exceptional at every stage. Our older daughter is now in the Spanish immersion primary program and regularly comes home speaking Spanish. More than the academics, we have watched her grow into a child who is genuinely confident and curious, which feels like exactly what a Montessori education promises. She is writing letters, doing math, and has formed deep bonds with her teachers and classmates. Many of her closest friends have been in her cohort since she was 18 months old. That continuity has given our family a real sense of community, not just a school. Our younger daughter is in the infant program, and the transition has been remarkably smooth. Communication from her teachers is daily and specific -- feeding, napping, schedule adjustments happen quickly and feel truly tailored to where she is developmentally. She jumps into her teachers' arms at drop off, and from my parent perspective is a big reassurance to me. You can tell she feels safe and loved. A special note on Sandy -- she is fantastic. On more than one occasion she has responded and accommodated requests on short notice (like extending our care hours), and she has made it happen every time. That kind of responsiveness is rare and means so much to working parents. We are grateful for this school and the people in it.

I was attending with my daughter and her two 8 year olds, having a delightful time, when I happened upon this individual very aggressively, very loudly and very hostilely chastising 5 kids who looked to be 6-7. The tongue-lashing, complete with her jabbing her finger in a child's face while hurling accusations at him,then relentlessly berating the others, was EXTREMELY distressing. I was just a passer-by. I had no skin in this game, though I do know the difference between normal discourse and verbal abuse....It was a very upsetting demonstration of bullying, the very behavior we try to teach kids not to do...........But like a train-wreck, we couldn't take our eyes off the scene, horrified. The kids stood there frozen, seemingly paralyzed with fear, and just taking it (but what could they do?). They were young, stuck and looked terrified. She had an aide with her, so it was shocking to me that between the 2 of them this kind of mistreatment of 5 young kids was they best they could do to control their group. Finally my daughter intervened when it looked like the berating not only showed ZERO signs of abating, but instead was actually ramping up, apparently relishing the tirade she was delivering. This director/owner of the school seemed on a roll she could not or would not stop. I do not write this to attack, but to enlighten parents what might be happening with their kids at this school, with the recommendation that they question their kids about how they are treated and how she makes them feel. Personally, my heart broke for these poor youngsters. NO ONE deserves to be spoken to like that, especially such young, defenseless little children on an outing that was supposed to be fun. I was traumatized just watching. Had my daughter not intervened I suspect she'd STILL be ranting. .

Our son started going to OPE after beginning in another elementary school in Encinitas in 2nd grade. We thought he was doing pretty well in the other school but after he transferred, we started seeing C's and D's instead of his previous B's. He was also seemingly unable to control his talking in the new environment, so we had him assessed and placed on a prescription and provided IEP support. Fast forward to 6th grade, and he is back on track with A's and B's and even getting recommendations to take honor classes next year in Middle School. I whole heartedly recommend this school. They have great teachers with high standards, amazing IEP staff to play catch up with students that need it, and their counselor Chastity is so wonderfully involved and truly cares about these kids with her whole heart. So thankful that we moved to Olivenhain in time to correct the course of our child!
