Everyone in Findlay thinks Dietsch chocolates and ice cream are the BEST. I went for the first time while visiting in Findlay after hearing about this shop for over a year. Well, I honestly found nothing special or inventive about the candy and ice cream shop. However, as a disclaimer, I am from Columbus where places like Jeni's, Graeter's, and Mardi Gras hail. The shop was clean and cute and the high school kids working were so-so. They tried at least. I was surprised at all of the pre-scooped and pre-packaged ice cream items. I guess pre-scooped ice cream is inventive. They also sold a lot of "gifty" items. My boyfriend got the chocolate peanut butter ice cream, our friend got cherry vanilla. Both looked very creamy and well put together. They both decidedly thought it tasted pretty good. We didn't try any candy, but it reminded me of the Malley's shop! I was sooo disappointed Dietsch's didn't offer any frozen yogurt or non-dairy sorbet that I didn't get anything for myself. The shop is so old fashioned it didn't cater to someone who is lactose intollerant. Total bummer!!! Dietsch Bros., I wanted to agree with my friends, but I'll never be able to try any of your frozen delights. And NO, I don't want any stupid sherbet. The first thing I did was ask for a sample of a flavor. Immediately the young man declined. Sorry we don't give out samples we have to keep the line moving. You can order whatever flavor you want if you don't like it I'll give you something else. I wanted to try several flavor to get a broad overview of their type and quality. Nope. So my review is based on the peach ice cream. Is it fresh peach, I asked? It's peach ice cream with pieces of peach in it. My assessment: they use artificial flavor and color with inclusion of over processed fruit purée. Not offensive, not not fresh. Texture: a little icy, but solid and reasonably rich. I'm sure they do what they have done for years, but have hastened the process by using mass manufactured ingredients. All in all not as satisfying as I had hoped. Visited this place while on a business trip. I wanted to pick up some chocolates for my wife before I went back home. The woman I spoke was super nice and offered to make a "custom assortment" of just caramels for me. I picked up some gummy fruit slices and they were delicious. Although Dietsch's does sell good candy (especially the chocolate-covered pretzels, saltwater taffy and ice cream), it's definitely not the best I've ever had. After moving to Findlay a few years ago for school and hearing dozens of rave reviews about the place, I was surprised when it was really not as amazing as everyone claimed. The prices for the candy here are really high, and in my opinion, the selection is certainly not worth the price. I occasionally visit the store when I have a craving for chocolate-covered pretzels or rum raisin ice cream, but don't feel that the store is worth visits other than for the occasional novelty. During the summer I wanted to take ice cream home to Northwood, but it was hot outside. They wrapped my ice cream in newspaper and dry ice for free. It didn't even melt a little.
